| Chris Capuano confident he'll make next start |

(5/19/13) Dodgers starting pitcher Chris Capuano was leading 1-0 in the eighth inning Saturday against Atlanta before being pulled following a one-out single by B.J. Upton. Capuano had allowed five hits and threw 91 pitches, but he told Mattingly after his last at-bat in the eighth inning to be prepared to pull him out of the game because he had lingering problems with a strained calf.
"It wasn't affecting pitch execution out there," Capuano said. "It just feels a little tired. I've got an extra day before the next start (Friday against the Cardinals). With treatment and stuff we should be able to get that ready."
Capuano, who was activated off the DL May 6, is 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in his last three starts. He's allowed two runs on 10 hits and a walk in his last two starts (13 2/3 innings).

(5/18/13) Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano turned in another dominant performance but settled for a no-decision Saturday night against the Braves.
Capuano, who made his fourth start of the season, pitched seven scoreless innings. He was unable to preserve the lead, allowing a run in the eighth. He gave up five hits, struck out five and did not issue a walk in the 3-1 defeat.
Capuano is slated to face the Cardinals at home Friday. He is 1-2 with a 8.03 ERA in three starts at Dodger Stadium.

(5/12/13) After allowing five runs in four innings in his last start, Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano turned in a bounce-back performance in Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. Capuano allowed a run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in the 5-3 win. The run came in the sixth inning on a solo homer by Justin Ruggiano.
Capuano was pulled after giving up a one-out double in the seventh and finished with a season-high seven strikeouts and a walk to earn his first win.
"It's been a bit of a nightmare the past week. It's nice to wake up from it," Capuano said. "I was trying to watch some of the good games I had last year, look at what I did to be successful and try to stick with my strengths instead of worrying about getting to the hitters' weaknesses. I think it's a good approach with any lineup, not trying to get too caught up in a hitter's weaknesses. I had a pretty good changeup working today. And with the humidity and the moisture, I had that pitch working."
The left-hander is slated to face the Braves Saturday in Atlanta.

(5/7/13) Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt had a season-high four hits and continued his dominance against Dodgers starting pitcher Chris Capuano during Monday's 9-2 win. Goldschmidt homered for the sixth time this season and drove in three runs, while going 3 for 3 against Capuano.
Goldschmidt is now batting .800 (12 for 15) with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in his career against Capuano.
"I think after Goldy got the second hit, Capuano just kind of looked at him and said, 'Oh my gosh.'" manager Kirk Gibson said, per MLB.com. "It's incredible. It's pretty incredible. It's not very common."
Even Capuano is baffled by Goldschmidt's success against him.
"The ball Goldschmidt hit out, I got that one in there and he still hit it out," Capuano said. "It seems like even when I make good pitches Goldschmidt finds a way to get it to the outfield or find a hole. He's got a good approach against me."

(5/7/13) Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano made his first start since April 16 in Monday's series opener against the Diamondbacks. After missing time with a calf injury, he allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over four-plus innings of the 9-2 loss.
The left-hander allowed three runs in the third before running into trouble in the fifth when he surrendered a two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt and a solo home run to Cody Ross before being pulled.
Capuano, who threw 90 pitches, also struck out two and walked two while taking his second loss.
His next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Marlins.

| Chris Capuano's 2012 was a tale of two halves. Prior to the All-Star break, he was one of the biggest surprises in Fantasy, going 9-4 with a 2.91 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Yup, hard to imagine ever sitting that player. Of course, the fact those numbers were regarded as a surprise should have clued Fantasy owners into what would happen next. He fell apart in the second half, going 3-8 with a 4.76 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 6.4 strikeouts per nine innings. The real Capuano is likely somewhere in between the two extremes. Even at Dodger Stadium, he's too susceptible to the long ball to keep his ERA below 3.50, but he doesn't hurt himself with walks and holds his own in terms of strikeouts. You might even call him underrated if his impressive first half hadn't put him squarely on the map last season. Of course, he still might go undrafted in some leagues just because he ended the year on such a sour note, but you could certainly do worse than Capuano with a late-round pick in mixed leagues. Just understand that, at age 34, he doesn't really have any untapped potential. (Updated 12/4/12) |
