Franklin Gutierrez replaces Seth Smith in Mariners' lineup

(6/28/15) Mariners left fielder Seth Smith is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game, the third game in the last five that he's missed. 

Replacing Smith in left is Franklin Gutierrez, who is starting his second game their this year. Both have come in the last four games.

(6/24/15) The Mariners have recalled outfielder Franklin Gutierrez from Triple-A. Gutierrez hasn't appeared in a big-league game since September of 2013, but he's in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Royals. He'll bat second and be in left field. 

The veteran outfielder has played in 48 games this year with Tacoma. He's batting .317/.402/.500 with seven home runs and 31 RBI.

He is taking the roster spot of James Jones, who was sent to Triple-A on Wednesday. 

Mariners still not ready to call up outfielder Franklin Gutierrez

(5/9/15) The Mariners are in need of some offense early this season. Veteran outfielder Franklin Gutierrez may be able to provide some help in that department, but general manager Jack Zduriencik is not ready to bring him up yet, according to The News Tribune.

"He's doing a nice job," Zduriencik said. "I think everyone has been encouraged. It seems to be fine. I do think what we need to do is just continue to let him play. How he feels is the big issue. How much can you count on him, physically? That's not a secret here. Can you run him out there how many days a week? What's he physically able to do?"

Gutierrez is currently hitting .324 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 22 games for Triple-A Tacoma.

Mariners release Chavez; sign Gutierrez, Saunders to Triple-A deals

(3/31/15) The Mariners announced Tuesday outfielder Endy Chavez opted out of his minor-league deal and was released, per MLB.com. 

Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and pitcher Joe Saunders were also released, but then signed to Triple-A contracts.

Peterson, Marte, Kivlehan among Mariners cuts Friday

(3/20/15) The Mariners announced Friday they cut 11 players from major-league camp

Pitcher Lucas Luetge, catcher John Hicks, indielder Ketel Marte, infielder Jesus Montero, outfielder James Jones and outfielder Stefen Romero were optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Pitcher Justin Germano, pitcher Rafael Perez, infielder D.J. Peterson, infielder Patrick Kivlehan and outfielder Franklin Gutierrez were reassigned to minor-league camp.

Peterson (No. 2), Marte (No. 3) and Kivlehan (No. 4) are among the Mariners' top prospects, according to Baseball America.
