Red Sox's Chris Young: Swipes first bag of campaign

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/23/17) Young went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk during Saturday's loss to Baltimore.

The veteran outfielder is sporting a .245/.344/.283 slash line and projects to see a decline in playing time with Jackie Bradley Jr. back from a knee injury. Still, Young has an impressive track record against southpaws with a .405 wOBA over 273 plate appearances dating back to the 2015 season. He's on the DFS radar whenever Boston faces a lefty.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Sitting out Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/21/17) Young is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

With Jackie Bradley (knee) returning from the disabled list, Young is expected to return to a platoon role in the Boston outfield, with most of his opportunities coming against left-handed pitching. Young is just 1-for-10 so far this season against lefties, but he hit .329/.410/.589 against southpaws in 2016 (compared to .246/.319/.446 against right-handed pitching).

Red Sox's Chris Young: Not starting Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/20/17) Young is out of the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

Young's absence Thursday will break a streak of six straight starts in left field, over which he's gone 4-for-22 at the plate without an extra-base hit. Brock Holt will get the call in left for the series finale.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Draws influential walk Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/16/17) Young went 1-for-2 with a walk in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Rays.

Young's seventh-inning at-bat, in which he came back from down 0-2 to draw a walk, set the stage for Sandy Leon's game-deciding RBI. Young has played most days since Jackie Bradley (knee) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, but that window is closing this week. Bradley, who is eligible to return from the DL on Wednesday, is set to begin a rehabilitation assignment Tuesday and should join the Red Sox in Toronto later this week.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Batting cleanup Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/9/17) Young will draw the start at designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot Sunday against the Tigers, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox will get Mookie Betts (illness) back in the lineup following a week-long absence, but Hanley Ramirez (illness), Jackie Bradley (knee) and Xander Bogaerts (bereavement) remain unavailable, allowing Young to stick in the lineup for the fourth straight game. Though Young has recorded just two hits in 12 at-bats this season, all but three of his plate appearances have come against right-handers, who have gotten the better of him throughout his career. He'll have a much more favorable assignment against Tigers lefty Daniel Norris on Sunday, and his presence in the heart of the lineup could make him an attractive DFS option. Over his career, the 33-year-old has slashed .266/.364/.480 against southpaws.
