(12:16 am ET) Athletics outfielder Chris Young turned a 5-3 deficit in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Astros into a 6-5 lead by smacking a three-run home run off Houston closer Jose Veras. It was the fifth homer of the season for Young, who went 3 for 5 in the game to boost his batting average to .189 in 106 at-bats.

(5/18/13) The Athletics activated outfielder Chris Young from the disabled list Saturday, MLB.com reports. They designated Daric Barton for assignment.
Young was on the shelf with a quadriceps injury. He had been hoping to return Saturday.

(5/17/13) Athletics outfielder Chris Young (quadriceps) experienced some leg cramps following his minor-league rehab appearance Thursday. Young hopes to be activated from the disabled list before Saturday's game against the Royals, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.

(5/17/13) Athletics outfielder Chris Young began his rehab assignment with a flair Thursday, singling and drawing two walks in his three plate appearances before being replaced by a pinch runner. Young also recorded a steal in the game.
Provided he didn't suffer any setbacks in the rehab game, Young is expected to return to the A's Friday.

(5/15/13) Athletics outfielder Chris Young will play a rehab game at Triple-A Sacramento Thursday, MLB.com reports. He is still on track to return Friday, as previously reported.
Young has been working back from a strained left quadriceps. He was one of many disabled list casualties from the 19-inning game against the Angels on April 29.

| After exploding out of the gate, hitting .410 with five home runs through his first 11 games, Chris Young's 2012 season fell apart in dramatic fashion. He went on the disabled list with a shoulder injury and had a hard time getting back on track once he returned for the Diamondbacks. Even with a hot streak after the All-Star break, Young hit just .206 from the time he returned from the DL on May 18 until the end of the season. He also missed most of September with a quadriceps injury. This offseason he was dealt to Oakland, where his playing time could be jeopardized by a crowded outfield situation. Young will be part of a rotation that includes Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp, so everyday play appears unlikely, especially since Cespedes and Reddick don't figure to sit often. Even if Young rebounds from 2012's disaster, he is best saved for your AL-only rosters. (Updated 1/8/13) |
