Red Sox's Chris Young: Heads to bench Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/8/17) Young is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rays, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Young will be back on the bench following a string of three straight starts, as the return of Dustin Pedroia (knee) from the disabled list leaves no extra lineup spot available. With Hanley Ramirez (oblique) expected back Wednesday, Young's path to consistent at-bats will only become more difficult.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Powers club to win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/6/17) Young went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and five RBI during Sunday's win over the White Sox.

Young made a rare appearance in the cleanup spot and did major damage Sunday. The veteran is playing sparingly and sports a mediocre .251/.332/.428 slash line for the campaign, so his fantasy value remains limited. Young should probably be left to cavernous settings.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Batting cleanup Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/6/17) Young will start in right field and bat cleanup Sunday against the White Sox, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

It's only the fifth start in the last 15 games for Young, who enters the lineup with Mookie Betts receiving the day off for rest. Young likely won't see many at-bats so long as the regular outfield trio of Betts, Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley remains healthy, but he could have some appeal as a punt-play option in daily contests, especially in situations like Sunday where he occupies a prominent spot in the lineup.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Draws start in cleanup spot Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/16/17) Young will occupy the cleanup spot and serve as the Red Sox's designated hitter for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader with the Yankees, Chad Jennings of the Boston Herald reports.

Manager John Farrell wanted to give Hanley Ramirez a break for one of the two contests, so the 33-year-old will sit out the matinee, opening up a lineup spot for Young, who has gone 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series. Young's at-bats have been quite sporadic since about mid-April, but his season-long statistics haven't suffered much as a result. Over 178 plate appearances this season, Young is slashing a palatable .248/.331/.376.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Limited opportunities as fourth outfielder

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/13/17) Young has three hits in only 11 at-bats over Boston's last 11 games.

The 33-year-old holds a .255/.339/.386 slash line with four home runs in 153 at-bats this season. Young is nothing more than a fourth outfielder for Boston at this point, and hasn't seen an extended stretch of starts since center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.'s stint on the disabled list back in mid-April
