Red Sox's Chris Young: One less lefty in Chicago series

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6:43 am ET) Young may not start all three games in Boston's current series against the White Sox, who have changed Thursday's starter from left-hander John Danks to right-hander Erik Johnson.

The White Sox had scheduled three left-handers for the series against Boston, which meant three starts for the lefty-bashing Young. Now, with a right-hander in the mix Thursday, Young may not start that day.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Red Sox facing three lefties

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/3/16) With the White Sox scheduled to throw three left-handed starters, Young is expected to get a significant number of at-bats in Boston's three-game series beginning Tuesday.

Young was signed in the offseason for his ability to hit left-handers, but Boston hasn't faced many southpaws early on, leaving Young with just 29 plate appearances. It hasn't helped that when he has been given an opportunity, Young is 5-of-27 with 10 strikeouts. He should get at least two starts in the Chicago series and will look to jump-start his bat in the process.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Two more strikeouts in Saturday's loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/24/16) Young went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Astros.

Young was pressed into duty against a right-handed starter when Brock Holt was moved to shortstop for the injured Xander Bogaerts (wrist) and continued what has been a woeful start to the season. He's just 3-for-21 with 10 strikeouts (1-for-12 with eight strikeouts against right-handers). Things got so bad for Young that in the eighth inning, he was replaced by pinch-hitter and fellow right-handed batter Josh Rutledge against Houston righty Ken Giles.

Red Sox's Chris Young: In lineup Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/23/16) Young is batting seventh in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

Young will get his first start in four days on Saturday and he'll be taking over in left field with Brock Holt moving to shortstop in place of the injured Xander Bogaerts (wrist). Despite getting semi-regular playing time this season, Young has struggled to find a rhythm at the plate to this point, slashing .167/.250/.278 with eight strikeouts.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Out of the lineup Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/20/16) Young is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rays.

Young made three starts in a row, going 1-for-9 over that span, before finally making way for Brock Holt again in left field on Wednesday. Young was excellent against lefties last season, hitting for a .327/.397/.575 slash line against them, but has struggled to find his form this season. He's just 2-for-17 at the plate (both hits were doubles) while striking out eight times.
