Tigers' Ian Kinsler continues hot May with two hits Sunday

by R.J. White |
(5/18/15) Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler went 2 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base in his team's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals Sunday.

It was the 18th multihit performance of the season for Kinsler, which places him in a tie with Dee Gordon for second place, sitting one behind Matt Carpenter's 19 multihit games.

"He's a huge part of the offense at the top of the order in the two-hole," manager Brad Ausmus said, per "He's a smart baseball guy."

Kinsler has yet to homer on the second but has managed four multihit performances in his last six games. He has hit .318/.386/.411 with 19 RBI, 25 runs scored and five stolen bases in 151 at-bats.

Tigers 2B Ian Kinsler stays hot with double, triple on Thursday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/14/15) Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler continued his hot hitting in Thursday's victory over the Twins. Kinsler had two hits (a double and a triple) in five at-bats. He also drove in a run and scored a run and now has 15 hits in his last 10 games.

Tigers' Ian Kinsler dominating righties in 2015

by R.J. White |
(5/11/15) Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler has hit .344/.423/.433 with two stolen bases in 90 at-bats against right-handers this season.

Kinsler's success has been driven in part by a .392 BABIP against righties, but he's shown a very different approach at the plate in 2015, drawing 16 walks while striking out 17 times in 125 at-bats. The second baseman managed just 29 walks while racking up a league-high 684 at-bats last season. While his .376 slugging percentage would represent a career-low mark, his .380 on-base percentage is 73 points higher than last year's .307 mark and fits his role as the team's No. 2 hitter.

Tigers planning days off for Miguel Cabrera, Yoenis Cespedes, Ian Kinsler

by Shawn Krest |
(5/3/15) Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that he plans to find days off for some of his regulars who haven't missed a game yet this year.

Miguel Cabrera has started every game at first base. Ian Kinsler has been a fixture at second, and one day at DH is the only thing that kept Yoenis Cespedes out of left field this season.

"Absolutely (a day off) can help," Ausmus said, per the Detroit Free Press. "Even if you're not struggling, just to not have to think about every pitch every at-bat, you just kind of sit back for a day and watch the game until you're called upon to go into it. It's almost like going to a spa for the day. It's mentally relaxing."

Tigers' Rajai Davis out of lineup, Ian Kinsler leading off Monday

by R.J. White |
(4/27/15) Tigers center fielder Rajai Davis is out of the starting lineup for Monday's matchup with the Twins.

"He doesn't feel the tightness anymore," manager Brad Ausmus said, per "It was tightness. He didn't pull or strain anything. But he felt it tighten up, so he was concerned if he tried to run hard something would give. So it was probably wise that he came out of the game, because he feels good [Monday]. We'll give him the day and just see how he's doing."

Davis left Sunday's game due to groin tightness, keeping him from reprising his normal role as leadoff man against southpaws. Instead, the Tigers will use second baseman Ian Kinsler in the leadoff role, with shortstop Jose Iglesias moving up to the second slot.

"I do think hitting leadoff's a little different," Ausmus said, "and Kinsler's done it many times before. That's the only reason."

It's the first time this season Kinsler has batted anything other than second, but he's no stranger to the leadoff spot, having made 745 of his 1,236 career starts atop the lineup. Iglesias, however, has batted eighth or ninth in each of his starts this season. He's made three career starts in the No. 2 slot, going 5 for 12 with one walk.

The Tigers are heavy road favorites (-155) in Minnesota Monday.
