by Brandon Wise |
(5/23/15) Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work in Kansas City's 3-2 win over the Cardinals on Saturday in a rain-shortened game.

Volquez loaded the bases in the second inning when he walked back-to-back hitters. Then, Yadier Molina picked up an RBI on a groundout to third base. In the fifth, Volquez allowed three consecutive singles, leading to another run.

"I was kind of hurrying my throws a little bit," Volquez said to "I knew the rain was coming. I was trying to get past the fifth inning. I did it, too."

Royals' Edinson Volquez wins third with seven shutout IP

by Shawn Krest |
(5/17/15) Royals starter Edinson Volquez moved to 3-3 on the season with seven shutout innings on Sunday to beat the Yankees.

Volquez gave up three hits and didn't walk a batter, striking out five. He lowered his ERA to 2.74.

"He's just been very consistent for us all season," Royals manager Ned Yost said to "And today he was fantastic. The action on his pitches. He can start the ball in on lefties and it works its way back in by a lot. I mean, [catcher] Sal [Perez] has to work with the umpire because the pitches move so much. …Sal thinks they're strikes, so a lot of times he'll ask the umpire if he should move closer in and maybe that will give the umpire a better look at the pitches.

Volquez's next start will be next Sunday, against St. Louis.

Blister forces early exit for Royals P Edinson Volquez

by Jason Butt |
(5/7/15) Royals pitched Edinson Volquez was only able to go three innings in his team's 7-4 win over the Indians on Thursday.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Volquez developed a blister on his hand that popped during the game, according to FOX Sports Kansas City. That led to command issues, which forced him out of the game.

"I have been dealing with that the last couple of starts and today was the worst," Volquez said, via "When it [burst] in the second inning, I didn't say anything. But the last inning, I couldn't grip the ball. It was tough to throw."

After giving up a run in the second inning, Volquez faced eight batters and allowed two runs in the third. Franklin Morales relieved Volquez in the fourth, went two innings and earned the win. Morales is now 3-0 this season with a 4.50 ERA.

Volquez now has a 2.65 ERA. He struck out three batters and walked six.

Yost isn't expecting for Volquez to miss a start with this minor injury.

"I asked the trainers if he would have to miss a start," Yost said, "and right away they said, 'No, we'll harden it up before his next start.' … I trust our trainers."
