Angels' Jered Weaver: Struggles with control and long ball again

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/29/16) Weaver (4-4) allowed four runs on six hits, struck out three and walked three over six innings in a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

The right-hander continues to struggle in multiple areas. Weaver has now allowed eight homers in his last 30 innings. For the season, his HR/9 is a career-high 1.9. Weaver also has six walks versus just 11 strikeouts in his last three outings and on Saturday, he induced only three swing-and-misses. All these problems are at least partially due to the lower velocity Weaver has shown this season. He will look to get on track in his next start Friday against the Pirates.

Angels' Jered Weaver: Holds Orioles in check

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/22/16) Weaver held the Orioles in check in route to his fourth win of the season Sunday, allowing two runs with a season-high six strikeouts compared to just one walk across seven innings.

It was perhaps the best all-around start of the season for the veteran, who matched his season high in innings pitched and was only scored upon via a home run by Jonathan Schoop. Weaver has now tossed three quality starts in his last four outings, lowering his season ERA to 5.33, and he will look to continue his recent success Saturday versus the struggling Astros.

Angels' Jered Weaver: Feeling unhealthy after third loss in four starts

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/18/16) Weaver (3-3) lost his third consecutive decision on Tuesday against the Dodgers. He pitched seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned), ten hits and two walks while striking out two.

Weaver has admittedly been working through general soreness and tightness in his right shoulder, and said he's doing everything he can to get back to feeling 100 percent. "There's been nothing easy about this process," said Weaver, who's still throwing his fastball in the low 80s. "It's been a lot of hard work in between starts, and it's taken a bit longer than anticipated as far as my body goes." Over his past four starts, the right-hander is 0-3 and has given up 18 earned runs (including six home runs) on 36 hits while watching his ERA balloon nearly two points. It's hard to say with certainty that the 33-year-old in his 11th season won't hit the DL in the near future. For now, his next start will be Sunday against the Orioles.

Angels' Jered Weaver: Beaten up for eight runs in loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/13/16) Weaver (3-2) was smashed for eight runs on nine hits (three of them homers) in four innings against the Cardinals on Thursday. He struck out five without a walk.

Yes, Weaver sure did throw a lot of strikes -- 56 of 79 pitches -- and his soft offerings were smacked around the ballpark like the batting-practice pitches they are. The veteran righty's turned out a few solid starts, but they've been overshadowed by a number of blowups, and while he'll bring his ERA down from the hideous 6.10 he currently owns, that won't be enough to make him into a net positive fantasy asset in the vast majority of formats.

Angels' Jered Weaver: Pitches brilliantly in no-decision against Rays

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/7/16) Weaver (3-1) allowed just two runs (one earned) on six hits, struck out five and walked none but received a no-decision against the Rays on Saturday.

The right-hander was cruising in the sixth when Corey Dickerson reached on a throwing error and then Steven Souza Jr. homered in the next at-bat to tie the game. Other than that, he was spectacular, recording 75 strikes in 103 pitches and inducing 17 swing-and-misses. That's exactly the bounce back owners wanted to see after Weaver allowed seven runs on 11 hits in his last outing. Weaver will make his next start Thursday against the Cardinals.
