| Jered Weaver throws another bullpen |
by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com (5/11/13) Angels starter Jered Weaver (elbow) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports. Weaver did not report any issues following his session but bullpen coach Mike Butcher said the two are "still working through some things."
"Right now, we're trying to build arm strength, build endurance and just see where we're going," Butcher said. "It's like a day-to-day thing, where his progression is going to lead. We don't want to rush anything."
Weaver is hoping to be ready to return sometime near the end of May.

| Jered Weaver throws off mound, feels 'great' |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver threw from a mound for the first time since fracturing his left elbow and felt "great," the Los Angeles Times reports. He threw 28 fastballs, all at about 90 percent intensity.
Weaver, who has made just two starts this season, is expected to rejoin the Angels' rotation by the end of May.

| After three straight seasons of declining ERAs, Jered Weaver finally appeared to level off in 2012. Fortunately, the level he settled on nearly won him the AL Cy Young award. He finished in the top five in Cy Young voting for the third straight year, making him as much of an ace as you'll find in Fantasy. Granted, he won't deliver a particularly high striking rate -- those 9.5 per nine innings he had in 2010 are looking increasingly fluky after he delivered 6.8 per nine in 2012 -- but a lack of stuff clearly isn't the problem. He led the AL in fewest hits per nine innings, finishing at 7.0 for the second straight year. Because Weaver is so economical with his pitches, he's a perennial threat for 220 innings. The only reason he fell short in 2012 is because he missed almost all of June with an achy back. Some Fantasy purists might be tempted to bypass him for a Stephen Strasburg or Gio Gonzalez in the early rounds, looking for some extra strikeouts, but if by some miracle Weaver drops out of the top 10 starting pitchers in your league, take him and don't look back.
