Angels' Jered Weaver gives up three runs in win vs. Blue Jays

by R.J. White |
(5/20/15) Angels pitcher Jered Weaver picked up the win on Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings while striking out four in his team's 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Weaver (3-4) breezed through three innings before opening the fourth by walking two batters. Though he was able to record a double play to the next man up, the Blue Jays strung together three two-out hits to score all three of their runs in the inning. The Angels offense was able to take the lead in the top of the seventh, setting the starter up for the win.

Weaver owns a 4.37 ERA and 28:9 K:BB ratio in 57 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Padres at home on Monday.

Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver throws 7 1/3 strong IP in victory

by Jason Butt |
(5/15/15) Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (2-4) gave up one run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings Friday to defeat the Orioles.

"I don't know if his stuff was as crisp as last time, but definitely his command was there, he had enough fastball, and he did a great job against a team that's going to let you know if you're missing spots," manager Mike Scioscia said, per "He used his fastball well, used all his pitches."

Weaver's lone blemish was an eighth-inning home run surrendered to shortstop J.J. Hardy.

After beginning the season 0-5 with a 6.29 ERA, Weaver has allowed just one run over his last 16 1/3 innings (0.55 ERA).

"I think mechanically I was a little better last time," Weaver said. "I didn't start figuring things out mechanically until about the fourth or fifth. I was able to keep those guys off the bases for the most part. I was able to get some outs. Defense played well."

Weaver's next start is scheduled for Wednesday in Toronto.

Angels starter Jered Weaver throws six-hit shutout to earn first win

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/9/15) After dropping his first four decisions of the season, Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver tossed a six-hit, complete-game shutout Friday to defeat the Astros and earn his first win of the season.

Weaver (1-4) lowered his ERA from 6.29 to 4.98 with the performance.

"It's nice to get a win and get the monkey off my back," Weaver said after the game, per "I'll keep working hard in between, try to maintain it and keep it rolling."

All six hits, three by second baseman Jose Altuve, were singles.

Weaver didn't allow a runner to reach second base and retired 19 of his last 21 to notch his first shutout since 2012.

"Weaver did a good job of really never giving in and never throwing the same pitch the same speed for nine innings," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "We didn't really have a counterpunch for him. Early, we singled him a little bit and then made a few outs on the bases, but he settled in and changed speeds and really picked at the corners and never threw the same pitch twice, it didn't seem like."

Weaver will return to the mound for his next start Friday in Baltimore.

Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver falls to 0-4 on Sunday

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/3/15) Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (0-4) yielded consecutive home runs in the first inning on Sunday and never recovered, giving up five runs, overall, on 10 hits in five innings for a loss in San Francisco.

Nori Aoki and Joe Panik delivered the back-to-back blows for the Giants.

Weaver's fastball stayed around 83-84 mph all game and remains winless after six starts this season.

"It's frustrating," he said. "I'm not doing a very good job of helping the team win right now. It's tough. Just when you think the outing is going to be good, it starts out like it did today."

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said after the game that he has no plans on skipping Weaver for his next start.

"I don't think there's any magic pixie dust you can sprinkle on it and get him going," Scioscia said. "It's gonna be a process. He's not injured."

Weaver will seek his first win of 2015 on Friday against the Astros.

Angels bat Chris Iannetta ninth, behind pitcher

by Shawn Krest |
(5/3/15) Angels catcher Chris Iannetta will hit ninth in the order in Sunday's interleague game at San Francisco, one spot behind the pitcher.

Starting pitcher Jered Weaver, who has a .118/.167/.118 career slash line at the plate, will hit eighth. His last base hit was in 2012.
