Schuerholz: Braves have discussed Justin Upton extension

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/16/14) Braves president John Schuerholz told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday they have had internal discussions about a contract extension for outfielder Justin Upton.

"All things are possible," Schuerholz said. "That is not on the table at the moment, but we have discussed it internally."

Schuerholz added the Braves have also discussed trading Upton, but that is of little surprise since Upton has been mentioned heavily in trade rumors. The 27-year-old Upton will be a free agent after the 2015 season.

Report: Padres still pursuing Braves OF Justin Upton

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/12/14) According to Marc Bowman of MLB.com, the Padres remains one of the clubs still pursuing Braves outfielder Justin Upton. San Diego acquired Matt Kemp over the winter meetings and could be looking to add a right fielder at some point in the offseason.

Upton is coming off a season in which he hit .270/.342/.491 with 29 home runs and 102 RBI over 566 at-bats. The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and is expected to make $14.5 million in 2015 before becoming a free agent.

Giants' bid to acquire Justin Upton and Chris Johnson is dead

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/9/14) The Giants won't be acquiring Braves outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson in a deal for prospects, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Those talks are "a week old" and the deal is "not happening," Heyman reported.

USA Today reported the Braves were skeptical the Giants could supply the necessary prospects to make a deal possible.

Braves seeking more in return for OF Justin Upton

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/8/14) The Braves are seeking more for outfielder Justin Upton than they received back from the Cardinals for Jason Heyward. However, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman, rival executives believe Atlanta received "too much" in return for Heyward.

The Mariners aren't willing to part with pitcher Taijuan Walker and the Orioles won't give pitcher Kevin Gausman.

Upton is coming off a season in which he hit .270/.342/.491 with 29 home runs and 102 RBI over 566 at-bats. The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and is expected to make $14.5 million in 2015 before becoming a free agent.

Report: Orioles, Rangers, Padres still in Justin Upton market

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/4/14) The Orioles, Rangers and Padres are among the teams that remain involved in the trade market for Braves outfielder Justin Upton, FOXSports.com reports.

Upton is in the final year of his deal and the Braves appear to be headed for a rebuilding season, already trading one outfielder with an expiring deal (Jason Heyward) for an infusion of young talent. The Braves are reportedly in no rush to trade Upton, however, as they wait for the right deal to emerge.
