Derek Jeter plagued by sore elbow
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/12/14) A sore elbow hindering Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is the reason for his absence from the Game 1 lineup Friday in Baltimore.

Jeter is struggling late in his farewell season. He owns a .255/.303/.304 stat line on the year.

Derek Jeter set to sit in Game 1 on Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/12/14) The 2014 going-away party for Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will include one less game - he is out of the lineup for the opener of the Friday doubleheader in Baltimore.

Joe Girardi cited soreness for his absence. Like many of his teammates, Jeter has been struggling at the plate. He has one hit in his last 17 at-bats and has no multi-hit games since Aug. 26 as his average has declined to .255, its lowest point since May 5.

Derek Jeter moves into tie for sixth on all-time hits list
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/9/14) Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter moved into a tie with Honus Wagner for sixth place on the all-time hits list Friday when he went 1 for 4 in his team's 10-6 win over the Indians.

Jeter delivered an infield single with one out in the first inning, starting what would become a five-run rally in the team's first turn at-bat. He takes his 3.430 career hits into Saturday's matchup with the Indians. Jeter has hit .276/.328/.332 with three home runs, 30 RBI and eight stolen bases in 413 at-bats.

Derek Jeter absent from Thursday lineup
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) The Yankees will be sans Derek Jeter when they take the field Thursday against Detroit. The future Hall of Famer has been given the day off.

Jeter is certainly not out due to a slump. He has hit safely in six straight games and in 11 of his last 12. He is batting .320 during that stretch.
