Davis expects to be ready for training camp : Magic forward Glen Davis (foot) said he will be healthy for the start of training camp, the Boston Globe reports. Davis, who missed most of the season with a broken foot and sprained left shoulder, said he has also lost some weight. However, he added that he isn't sure if is in the Magic's long-term plans. He has a decision to make, Davis said of Orlando general manager Rob Hennigan. I think the main thing is they want to win. Whatever its going to take them to win. Whatever decision he makes, thats a hard decision. It could go both ways with a lot of things. (Updated 4/28/13) |

Davis appears to be making steady progress in his recovery and he should be ready to roll when the Magic open camp in early October. However, with the emergence of Maurice Harkless, Tobias Harris and Andrew Nicholson, it will be interesting to see if the Magic look to trade Davis this offseason. The 27-year-old proved he can be a productive Fantasy option as a full-time starter as he averaged a career-best 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds on 44.8 percent shooting from the field prior to his injury. As long as Davis gets another chance to start, he would be worth targeting in the late rounds of most draft formats next fall. (Updated 4/28/13). |
| Glen Davis' first season in Orlando was a bit of a disappointment as he struggled to find his footing with the Magic. The 26-year-old entered camp a bit out of shape after the league's five-month layoff due to lockout and as a result really got off to a slow start. Davis averaged 9.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 61 games for the Magic while serving as Ryan Anderson's backup, albeit those numbers are also a bit skewed. Davis became Orlando's starting center once Dwight Howard went down with a back injury in late March and Davis took full advantage of his extra touches as he averaged 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds over the final 12 games of the year, which helped boost his yearly averages a bit. While Orlando enters the 2012-13 campaign with a ton of question marks surrounding its rosters, Davis' role has already be laid out for him. With Howard now out of town, he will be counted to provide some scoring as the team's starting power forward heading into the upcoming season, which at the very least should help get the former Louisiana State standout's daily points totals back into double digits. Davis has averaged 13.8 points and 6.1 rebounds in 44 careers starts, so Fantasy owners should expect a similar stat line most nights from him. With the promise of seeing starter's minutes, Davis should be considered a viable low-end Fantasy reserve option heading into Draft Day next fall. (Updated 8/22/12) |
