Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Solid effort in Game 5 losing cause

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/13/17) Thompson registered 15 points (6-8 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block over 30 minutes during Monday's 129-120 loss to the Warriors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

Thompson enjoyed what was by far his best game of the series, contributing his highest scoring total since Game 3 of the conference finals against the Celtics. The 26-year-old was also a strong presence on the boards for the second straight contest and took a postseason-high amount of shot attempts. Thompson enjoyed a solid 2016-17 campaign in which he averaged 8.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.1 blocks across 78 games, although the Cavs may determine they need more offense from the center position in order to mount a challenge to the Warriors' title next season.

Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Scoreless again in Game 3 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/8/17) Thompson finished with zero points (0-1 FG), three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 118-113 loss to the Warriors in Game 3.

Thompson has now laid a goose egg in the scoring department in two of the three tilts this series. After averaging 10.3 points (on 63.6 percent shooting) and 10.1 rebounds in 32.4 minutes during last year's seven-game series against the Warriors, Thompson has disappeared this June, posting a combined eight points and 11 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game. If the Cavaliers are going to have any shot at forcing a Game 5, Thompson will likely need to snap out of his funk and find a rhythm on both ends of the court.

Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Scoreless over 22 minutes in Game 1 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/2/17) Thompson failed to score (0-3 FG) during Thursday's 113-91 loss to the Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA finals, contributing only four rebounds and two assists over 22 minutes.

Thompson had served as an effective complementary offensive presence throughout the postseason, even contributing a trio of double-digit scoring tallies. However, he was minimally involved Thursday, as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love combined for 55 shot attempts between them. Thompson didn't play much of a role on the glass either, with his four rebounds serving as his second-lowest total in that category in 14 playoff tilts. He'll look to bounce back with a more productive outing in Sunday's Game 2.

Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Complementary presence again in Game 5

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/26/17) Thompson posted six points (1-3 FG, 4-4 FT) five rebounds, one assist and one block over 29 minutes during Thursday's 135-102 win over the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.

With the Cavs' Big Three hitting on all cylinders once again, Thompson played a definitively complementary role for the third time in the series' five games. The 26-year-old stepped up offensively during the series when called upon, logging double-digit scoring efforts in Games 1 and 3, including a double-double in the latter. Thompson was very solid on the boards in particular during last season's Finals versus the Warriors, hauling in 10.1 rebounds over the seven games. Therefore, he's likely to play a pivotal part in the rebounding department at a minimum in what should be a tough matchup down low versus Zaza Pachulia during the upcoming series.

Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Perfect from the field in Game 1 win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/17/17) Thompson scored 20 points (7-7 FG, 6-10 FT) with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals across 34 minutes in Wednesday's 117-104 Game 1 win over the Celtics.

Despite missing a double-double by a rebound, Thompson was able to expose the Celtics weak interior defense to record his highest point total of the post-season on a perfect 100 percent from the field. If there was ever a series tailor-made for the athletic Cavs' center to shine, it's against the Celtics who have struggled to keep opponents off the offensive glass all season. Don't be surprised if Thompson gets that double-double sooner rather than later in the series.
