Injuries leave Heat reeling from frontcourt injuries

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/15/14) The Heat's post-LeBron plans were based heavily on a frontcourt tandem of Chris Bosh and Josh McRoberts, the team's two biggest signings of the free agency period. However, with Chris Bosh dealing with a calf strain and Josh McRoberts set for season-ending knee surgery, those plans have gone awry, and Fantasy owners are left to sort through the pieces.

The Heat are used to playing without McRoberts, who was just ninth on the team in minutes played through the first 23 games of the season. However, Fantasy owners were starting to get excited about his return to health, since few big men can produce quite like McRoberts does. He was averaging 4.0 assists and 1.0 3-pointers per-36 minutes, but at least the Heat have an in-house option to replace him in the form of Shawne Williams. Williams averaged 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 3-pointers per game through the first 10, which McRoberts mostly missed with injuries.

Finding someone to replace Bosh will be a bigger test, though it is likely one the team won't have to deal with for too long. Bosh acknowledged his calf injury could cost him a few weeks Monday, though that seems like a worst-case scenario. For the time being, Justin Hamilton and Chris Andersen are likely to see larger roles, but neither warrants more than a cursory glance in deeper Fantasy leagues for the time being.

For Fantasy Week 8, you might want to slip Williams, Luol Deng and Mario Chalmers into your starting lineups, especially with Dwyane Wade fighting an illness. Long term, however, it remains to be seen just how the Heat will deal with these injuries.

Mario Chalmers worth owning, even off the bench

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/1/14) Heat guard Mario Chalmers was fantastic in Dwyane Wade's absence, and disappeared with Wade back in the fold Sunday. Should Fantasy owners be panicking about his value moving forward?

Chalmers moved back to the bench and played just 24 minutes in a 3-point showing Sunday against the Knicks, though it seems fair to say his limited minutes were the result of foul trouble more than anything. Chalmers still averaged 12.0 points and 4.1 assists per game in the first nine games of the season off the bench, which should make him a solid Fantasy option moving forward.

Chalmers also averaged 18.5 points and 5.8 assists per game in his six starts, and should be the primary beneficiary of Wade's injury woes. He is more of a Fantasy reserve off the bench, but Chalmers' upside as a Wade handcuff makes him a must-own player for the long-haul.

Heat G Chalmers leaves Wednesday practice with illness

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/26/14) Heat guard Mario Chalmers was excused from Wednesday practice early due to an illness, per the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He will have plenty of time to recover - his team does not play another game until Monday at New York.

Chalmers is averaging a career-high 14.6 points a game

Heat guard Mario Chalmers scores 24 points in Heat win Saturday

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(11/22/14) Heat guard Mario Chalmers continued to be a focal point of the Heat's offense during Saturday's win against the Magic. Chalmers scored 24 points and added eight assists.

Chalmers has scored more than 20 points in three of the Heat’s last five games. The Heat next play Sunday against Charlotte.

Mario Chalmers keeps rolling Monday

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/17/14) Heat point guard Mario Chalmers scored 22 points, hitting 11 of 13 free throws, in Monday's 95-83 win in Brooklyn. Chalmers shot 5 of 12 from the field and added five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Chalmers is averaging 21 points and seven assists over his past three games. He'll play the Clippers on Thursday.
