Mario Chalmers: Still going through recovery process

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/29/16) Chalmers (Achilles) is still "not physically ready" to be cleared for a return to action, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.

Chalmers' name was brought up regarding rumors surrounding the Grizzlies, a team he's had a previous relationship with and is currently in the market for a guard after Mike Conley went down for an extended absence with a back injury. However, according to MacMahon, Chalmers was excluded from that conversation due to needing more time in the recovery process, so it appears he's not a full-go quite yet. Chalmers was hoping to be cleared for full activity mid-November, but it looks as if that timeline could extend well into December. He'll look to latch on with a contender once back to 100 percent.

Mario Chalmers: Hopes to be cleared for full activity this week

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/14/16) Chalmers (Achilles) expects to be cleared for full basketball activity later this week, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports. "Right now, I can pretty much do everything," Chalmers said. "I've been on the court the last two, three months just working on getting back. I'm back to sprinting, running and jumping."

While playing with the Grizzlies last March, Chalmers suffered a ruptured right Achilles, a devastating injury that came at an unfortunate time with the point guard set to become a free agent this past summer. Though teams have expressed interest in bringing Chalmers aboard as veteran depth, the 30-year-old seems content to wait until he's fully healthy before potentially joining a playoff-contending team. Chalmers believes he'll be ready to play in NBA games by early December.

Mario Chalmers: Month away from return

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/9/16) Chalmers told ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst on Saturday that he's about a month away from returning from his surgically-repaired right Achilles, ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst reports.

Chalmers received clearance to participate in on-court workouts back in August, but he's still working to regain his conditioning and explosiveness and won't be ready to go for the start of the regular season. That's not a surprising development given the severity of his injury, but once Chalmers feels fully comfortable, it may not take him long to land a contract with a team. The 31-year-old has been a dependable backup and fill-in starter throughout his career and would represent a quality depth option for a point guard-needy team.

Mario Chalmers: Cleared to play

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/25/16) Chalmers is cleared to return to the court, according to his personal Twitter account.

After Chalmers ruptured his right achilles tendon on March 9 and underwent season-ending surgery, he has been cleared to play. Chalmers was immediately released from the Grizzlies when he was diagnosed with his injury, so he is still currently a free agent. Although just being cleared to play after surgery, it shouldn't prove to be too difficult for Chalmers to land a role as a backup point guard for a team considering he played well for the Grizzlies in 2015-16. The 30-year-old averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in 55 games.

Mario Chalmers: Ahead of schedule in recovery from torn Achilles

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/13/16) Chalmers (Achilles) told Sirius XM NBA Radio on Friday that he's "two weeks ahead of schedule" in his recovery.

While Chalmers' recovery process from the ruptured right Achilles tendon is expected to last at least a couple more months, the improvement he's already shown might give him a chance at being back to full health at some point during NBA training camps. Since he's returning from a major injury, Chalmers might have to wait a little longer than other comparable talents before landing a contract this offseason, but he shouldn't have too much difficulty finding a role as a backup point guard for a team. Chalmers played well in 55 games with the Grizzlies in 2015-16 before going down with the injury, averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.8 three-pointers in 22.8 minutes per game.
