Mario Chalmers: Cleared to play

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/25/16) Chalmers is cleared to return to the court, according to his personal Twitter account.

After Chalmers ruptured his right achilles tendon on March 9 and underwent season-ending surgery, he has been cleared to play. Chalmers was immediately released from the Grizzlies when he was diagnosed with his injury, so he is still currently a free agent. Although just being cleared to play after surgery, it shouldn't prove to be too difficult for Chalmers to land a role as a backup point guard for a team considering he played well for the Grizzlies in 2015-16. The 30-year-old averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in 55 games.

Mario Chalmers: Ahead of schedule in recovery from torn Achilles

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/13/16) Chalmers (Achilles) told Sirius XM NBA Radio on Friday that he's "two weeks ahead of schedule" in his recovery.

While Chalmers' recovery process from the ruptured right Achilles tendon is expected to last at least a couple more months, the improvement he's already shown might give him a chance at being back to full health at some point during NBA training camps. Since he's returning from a major injury, Chalmers might have to wait a little longer than other comparable talents before landing a contract this offseason, but he shouldn't have too much difficulty finding a role as a backup point guard for a team. Chalmers played well in 55 games with the Grizzlies in 2015-16 before going down with the injury, averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.8 three-pointers in 22.8 minutes per game.

Mario Chalmers: Sheds cast, now using walking boot

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/6/16) Chalmers (Achilles) is no longer in a cast and is sporting a walking boot on his right leg, according to his personal Twitter account.

Chalmers ruptured his right Achilles tendon on March 9 while he was a member with the Grizzlies, and with the team in dire need of healthy bodies, the pending free agent was immediately released to open up a roster spot. He's since embarked on a lengthy rehab process that figures to sideline him for the start of the 2016-17 campaign, which could force him to wait a while during the summer before landing a contract.

Mario Chalmers: Will undergo surgery Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/15/16) Chalmers (Achilles) will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday, according to his personal Twitter account.

After rupturing his Achilles in a game last Wednesday against the Celtics, Chalmers, who was set to become a free agent this summer, was released by the Grizzlies shortly thereafter, as the injury-ravaged team needed to open up a roster spot to add a healthy point guard. An official timetable for Chalmers' return hasn't yet been outlined, but it seems unlikely that he'll be ready to play at the start of next season.

Mario Chalmers: Waived by Grizzlies

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/10/16) Chalmers (foot) ruptured his achilles and has been waived by the Grizzlies, Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal reports.

Chalmers was helped off the court in Wednesday's loss to Boston, and it was announced Thursday evening that he tore his achilles. As a result, the injury depleted Grizzlies were forced to waive him to free a roster spot. This is a tough break for Chalmers, who was averaging 22.5 minutes, 10.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game this season. Chalmers will likely be picked up by another team but he will not be able to play for the remainder of the 2016 season. With Chalmers gone, look for Briante Weber and Lance Stephenson to see heavier workloads going forward.
