Stevens has reason not to change Celtics' struggling starting lineup
|by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer|
|(3/28/15) In contention for the seventh and eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics' starting five have been outscored this season by 11.3 points, worse than the NBA-worst Knicks, giving coach Brad Stevens thoughts of changing it up, reports MassLive.com
"We've had that discussion almost every day," Stevens said.
But his relucatance to change the starting five is due to the strong bench play from forward Jae Crowder and guard Isaiah Thomas, especially when they're on the floor at the same time with reserve center Kelly Olynyk and guard Jonas Jerebko.
"The first six minutes of a 48-minute game are the first six minutes," Stevens said. "You want to start as well as you can, but you also want to create rotations that you like. If your second unit's really playing at a high level, then you have to factor that in - that if you mix it up, your second unit might not play at a high level."
Jonas Jerebko's double-double off bench leads Celtics
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(2/27/15) In his third game with the Celtics, Jonas Jerebko recorded a double-double off the bench. Acquired at the trade deadline, last week, Jerebko scored 16 and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds to lead the Celtics to a 106-98 win over the Hornets.
The Celtics erased a 16-point Hornets lead to win their third straight. Jerebko put the Celtics on top to stay on a go-ahead layup with 5:28 remaining.
Jerebko hit six-of-nine from the field, the only Celtic to make more than half of his shots for the game.
''When he played for Detroit, I knew he played very hard,'' teammate Avery Bradley said. ''He makes big shots. I feel like he can really help our team out.''
The Celtics host the Warriors on Sunday in their next game.
Celtics PF Jonas Jerebko scores season-high 20 vs. Knicks
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/25/15) Celtics power forward Jonas Jerebko scored a season-high 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including 4 of 6 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 115-94 win over the Knicks Wednesday.
Making just his second appearance since being acquired before the trade deadline, Jerebko led the team in scoring while playing just 21 minutes off the bench. He also kicked in five rebounds, two assists and one steal in the win, his team's second straight. Jerebko could quickly earn playing time with quality play as Jared Sullinger (foot) is set to miss the remainder of the season.
