Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Signs one-year deal with Wizards

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/7/16) Thornton re-signed with the Wizards on a one-year, $1.3 million contract for the veteran's minimum Thursday, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

After the Rockets were unable to trade Thornton at the trade deadline during the 2015-16 campaign, they ended up waiving him mid-season. The Wizards took advantage of his departure from Houston, claiming him off waivers and rostering him for the rest of the season. In 29 games with the Wizards, he finished with averages of 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 16 minutes per outing. Thornton will likely be a bit buried on the depth chart, so look for a high-teens-to-low-20's minutes average again barring any injuries higher up in the depth chart for the 29-year-old veteran.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Provides inconsistent scoring off bench

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/19/16) Thornton was streaky coming off the bench for Houston and Washington during the 2015-16 season, but he managed to score in the double-digits 28 times.

Thornton improved marginally this season after struggling in 2014-15 with the Celtics and Suns over a total of 48 outings where he averaged a tick below eight points per game. He averaged just over 10 points coming off the bench for the Rockets, but was waived by the team after a trade involving Thornton and teammate Donatas Motiejunas was nullified. After signing with the Wizards in March, Thornton saw action in 14 games and reached double-digits in five of those games. The 28-year-old should spark interest in the offseason for his streaky scoring abilities as he enters free agency once again.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Effective in start versus Nets

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/12/16) Thornton started and scored 19 points (7-15 FG, 3-3 FT, 2-6 3Pt) to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes during Monday's win over the Nets.

The swingman entered the starting five as Washington held several key players out, and he responded with his best scoring output in over two weeks. Thornton could very well start the regular season finale with Washington likely to continue to play it safe with their young stars after already being eliminated from playoff involvement, leaving the door open for Thornton to provide some value Wednesday versus Atlanta.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Will start Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/11/16) Thornton willdraw the start in Tuesday's tilt with the Nets.

Thornton will start in place of Bradley Beal. It is possible that the Wizards are opting to shut Beal down after an injury plagued season. If that is the case Thornton will the potential finish the season with a relatively high workload.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Comes off bench to score 18 in win Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/18/16) Thornton scored 18 points (7-16 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT) to go with five rebounds and a steal over 22 minutes in a 99-94 victory over the 76ers on Thursday.

Leading into Thursday's game, Thornton hadn't made much of an impression with his new team; averaging 4.5 points over 13 minutes through four games as a member of the Wizards. It was Thornton's barrage off the bench, however, that helped Washington secure a tight victory over the 76ers. The Wizards are currently 1.5 games behind the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. If his play continues at this pace, Thornton could play a large role in Washington's success down the stretch.
