Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Ousted from rotation

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/11/17) Thornton (coach's decision) didn't see the floor in Tuesday's 101-99 win over the Bulls.

Thornton hasn't played in any of the past three games, as it seems he's fallen behind John Wall, Bradley Beal, Kelly Oubre, Trey Burke and even undrafted rookie Sheldon McClellan in the backcourt pecking order. The veteran can often fill it up in the scoring column when given minutes, but since that isn't happening at the moment, he can largely be ignored in the fantasy realm.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Scores 11 points Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/1/16) Thornton totaled 11 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds in 17 minutes during the Wizards' 126-115 overtime loss to the Thunder on Wednesday.

After playing 20 minutes or more in six of seven showings between Nov. 9 and Nov. 21, Thornton has combined to see 40 minutes over his last three appearances, and he was a healthy scratch during Monday's win over the Kings. Even though Thornton's role hasn't been all that demanding, this was the fifth occasion that he has reached double figures in scoring this season, and Markieff Morris twisted his ankle during Wednesday's loss. It's unclear if Morris will be forced to miss any time, but if he does then Thornton could very well be asked to fill the stretch forward position for 20-plus minutes on Friday versus the Spurs.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Held to two points in first start of season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/12/16) Thornton generated two points (0-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 21 minutes in Friday's 105-94 loss to the Cavaliers.

Thornton slotted in on the top unit with Bradley Beal (hamstring) sidelined, but his poor shooting night prompted coach Scott Brooks to lean heavily on the bench duo of Kelly Oubre (21 minutes) and Sheldon McClellan (12 minutes) for some extra run. There's a good possibility that Beal will remain out for Saturday's game against the Bulls, and while Thornton could retain starting duties in that case, it's difficult to predict how the minutes at shooting guard may be divvied out.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Will start Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/11/16) Thornton will start at shooting guard Friday against the Cavaliers.

Thornton will move into the starting lineup with fellow guard Bradley Beal (hamstring) unable to go. Thornton's contributions this season in 19 minutes per game have been minimal, but he did score 16 points in a season-high 34 minutes in the Wizards' last game Wednesday, and he will likely see extra playing time again Friday with Beal out.

Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Scores 16 off bench

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/10/16) Thornton dropped 16 points (5-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT) in 34 minutes in a 118-93 win over the Celtics on Wednesday. He also had four assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

Thornton doubled his season average in minutes in this game, owing largely to Bradley Beal being limited to 11 minutes due to a hamstring injury. If Beal misses time, it should mean more minutes for Thornton, who is a proven three-point threat with some offensive potential.
