Favors ready for the jump: Jazz forward Derrick Favors has waited patiently for his opportunity to breakout, and it could finally come next season. Favors is set to enter his fourth season, and he should not longer have a pair of borderline All Stars blocking him in the starting lineup, with Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap set to be unrestricted free agents. The Jazz are expected to let one or both of those players walk, opening the door for Favors to step into the starting lineup. Favors is coming off his best season as a professional yet, averaging 9.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in just 23.2 minutes per game. (Updated 4/24/13) |

Favors is averaging 14.0 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per 36 minutes in his career, which just gives you an idea of the type of production he is capable of if he can get into a full-time role. Favors is going to be one of the most popular breakout candidates in the league next season, though the same thing was probably true last season. If the Jazz do put him in the starting lineup, Fantasy owners should expect big things from him. He should be worth a mid-round pick on Draft Day, with tons of upside. (Updated 4/24/13). |
| Once considered a top prospect out of college, Derrick Favors finally took a step forward during his second NBA season last year. It's tough to fathom an average of 8.8 points per game an improvement, but for Favors, it was certainly a positive. After an inconsistent rookie season unsettled by a trade from New Jersey, the ex-Georgia Tech standout shined in a position off the bench and averaged more than a point per game higher than his first year (7.3 ppg). The powerful low-post presence also snared 6.5 rebounds a night -- a solid increase from his 5.3 clip as a rookie. The Jazz also recognized the improvement and provided Favors with more minutes during the second half of the season. Buoyed by seven double-doubles in April, he had his finest month (9.8 ppg and 8.4 rpg) and showed the potential to be a superstar. Favors turned only 21 during the offseason and could be poised for an ever stronger campaign in his third season. He still needs to contend with Paul Millsap, but Fantasy owners shouldn't overlook him as a solid value pick toward the later rounds of drafts for the upcoming campaign. (Updated 8/22/12) |
