Raptors' Patrick Patterson: Scores season-high 13 points in Wednesday's win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/10/16) Patterson put up a season-high 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-8 3Pt) to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals across 33 minutes in Wednesday's 112-102 win over the Thunder.

Patterson isn't often asked to put up many shots in the Raptors' DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry-centric attack, but he found some space from beyond the arc Wednesday and was able to take advantage. Though Patterson has come off the bench for all seven of the Raptors' games, he's the de facto starter at power forward, as he's averaging 31.0 minutes per game to rookie Pascal Siakam's 17.6 per game.

Raptors' Patrick Patterson: Rakes in defensive stats in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/1/16) Patterson provided three points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, five blocks, three assists and one steal across 33 minutes in Monday's 105-102 win over the Nuggets.

Though coach Dwane Casey elected not to promote him to a starting role with Jared Sullinger (foot) out for the next two-to-three months, Patterson has still seen the bulk of the minutes at power forward, with rookie Pascal Siakam acting as more of a placeholder in the starting five. Patterson won't be relied on for much offense when he shares the court with DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, but the strong defensive stats he posted Monday illustrate the value he brings to the floor. Unfortunately, the five blocks should probably be viewed as an outlier for a player who averaged just 0.4 rejections per game a season ago.

Raptors' Patrick Patterson: Plays 34 minutes in Friday's loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/28/16) Patterson contributed five points (2-6 FG, 1-5 3Pt), six rebounds, three assists and one steal across 34 minutes in Friday's 94-91 loss to the Cavaliers.

It looks like coach Dwane Casey will proceed with rookie Pascal Siakam as his starting power forward in the wake of Jared Sullinger succumbing to a foot injury, but Patterson still grades out as the better single-season fantasy entity even while remaining on the second unit. He's surpassed Siakam in playing time in both of the Raptors' first two games, and more than doubled him in minutes Friday. That being said, Patterson hasn't used that playing time to provide much meaningful fantasy production, and that will likely remain the case for the duration of Sullinger's extended absence.

Raptors' Patrick Patterson: Coming off bench Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/26/16) Patterson will come off the bench for Wednesday's season opener against the Celtics.

Patterson was a candidate to start at power forward while Jared Sullinger is sidelined, but the Raptors have opted to go with rookie Pascal Siakam. They likely want to keep Patterson comfortable in his bench role. It is unclear if this will continue to be the lineup going forward until Sullinger is back or not. It will likely depend on how things go Wednesday.

Raptors' Patrick Patterson: In line for increased role to begin season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/24/16) Patterson is the leading candidate to start in place of Jared Sullinger (foot), who is expected to miss the first 2-to-3 months of the season, Josh Lewenberg of TSN Sports reports.

Coach Dwane Casey has been vocal about his preference to use Patterson in a more versatile role off the bench, but in the absence of Sullinger that's not a luxury he'll necessarily have. Casey stopped short of committing to Patterson as the starter, though, noting that Pascal Siakam is also in the conversation and stating that the two players could ultimately split time as the starter. Regardless, Patterson should see an uptick in minutes through at least the first two months of the season, as the Raptors are relatively thin in the frontcourt.
