Lakers' Timofey Mozgov: Returns to practice

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/17/16) Mozgov (groin) returned to practice with the Russian national team Wednesday, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Mozgov missed Russia's last two games after suffering a groin strain, but after an MRI cleared him of anything serious and his lingering pain subsided, he was able to get back on the court Wednesday. Recently receiving a four-year, $64 million contract, Mozgov isn't in danger of missing the start of the Lakers' training camp and should move into a starter's role right off the bat with his new team.

Lakers' Timofey Mozgov: Nursing groin injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/15/16) Mozgov injured his groin Friday while playing for the Russian national team during an international friendly matchup with Ukraine, NBA.com reports.

Mozgov underwent an MRI on the groin, and though it appears he avoided any serious injury, he's been ruled out for Russia's next two games in their international tournament in Georgia. He's expected to be re-evaluated at some point this week, but for the time being, the Lakers don't appear concerned that Mozgov will be sidelined for training camp in the fall. After averaging 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game across 76 appearances with the Cavs last season, Mozgov should see his numbers climb across the board in 2016-17 now that he's in line to serve as a full-time starter for the Lakers.

Lakers' Timofey Mozgov: Reaches four-year, $64M deal with Lakers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/1/16) Mozgov agreed Friday with the Lakers on a four-year, $64 million contract, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

It's quite an exorbitant price to pay for a player who was dropped from the Cavs' rotation for much of the postseason, but after suffering through the Roy Hibbert experience last season, the Lakers were determined to pay up to make an upgrade at center. By virtue of his large contract, Mozgov looks like a safe bet to start for the Lakers heading into 2016-17, and should have an opportunity to post career-best numbers. Per 36 minutes last season, Mozgov averaged 12.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, so low-end double-double production could be in reach for the Russian big man if he settles into a 25-to-30 minute per game role with the Lakers.

Cavaliers' Timofey Mozgov: Plays fourth quarter of Game 2 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/6/16) Mozgov put up five points (1-3 FG, 3-4 FT), three rebounds and one steal across 12 minutes in Sunday's 110-77 Game 2 loss to the Warriors.

With the Cavaliers trailing by 20 points entering the fourth quarter, coach Tyronn Lue turned to his deep reserves early, with Mozgov among those entering the fray. He didn't exactly express during garbage time, turning the ball over twice while committing three fouls. It doesn't seem likely that he'll enter the rotation in Wednesday's Game 3 in Cleveland if the contest is more competitive throughout.

Cavaliers' Timofey Mozgov: Plays 13 minutes in Game 2 blowout win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/5/16) Mozgov played 13 minutes and put up zero points (0-1 FG) and one rebound in Wednesday's 123-98 Game 2 win over the Hawks.

Coach Tyronn Lue has jettisoned Mozgov from the rotation during the postseason, as the Cavaliers have embraced smaller lineups with more spacing and three-point shooters. Those skills aren't really a part of Mozgov's repertoire, so don't expect to see much of him outside of blowout games in the vein of Wednesday's game.
