Cavs expect Kyrie Irving back for training camp

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(7/12/15) Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is moving forward in his rehab from a fractured kneecap and is expected to be healthy for training camp, reports the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

"Kyrie is rehabbing well," general manager David Griffin said. "He's in Miami. He's doing really well actually with his rehab protocol. He feels very good. He's certainly on pace right now for where we need to be. Andy, similarly, feels very good. He actually wanted to try to dress in the Finals and wasn't real happy that we didn't let him to do it. So, I anticipate he'll be ready for the start of camp."

Cavaliers PG Kyrie Irving on injury: 'It was just a freak play'

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(6/10/15) Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is watching as his team plays in the NBA Finals because of the fractured kneecap he suffered in Game 1, but he's at peace because he knows he couldn't of done anything to avoid his fate, per NBA.com.

Irving was playing in these playoffs with lingering injuries that included tendinitis in his knee, but continued to do so because doctors assured him the tendinitis did not make him susceptible to other injuries.

"Obviously, there was a risk going out there playing anyway, no matter what," Irving said. "It was just a freak play."

Irving logged 44 minutes in Game 1 against the Warriors and played well, scoring 23 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists. But the overload of playing time turned a lot of heads, which led to speculation on if he was overworked and that contributed to the fracture.

"It wasn't about the minutes or anything like that that everyone wants to kind of speculate about," Irving said. "It was me who decided to go out and play, put my body on the line."

Irving is projected to miss about 3-4 months as he rehabs the injury.
