Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving: Joins U.S. Olympic roster

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/27/16) Irving has committed to playing for Team USA in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Irving and Warriors forward Harrison Barnes ended up claiming the final two roster spots, as both players took some time off after a taxing NBA Finals before making their decision to play in the Olympics. With Kyle Lowry representing the only other true point guard on the roster, Irving won't face much competition for playing time in the backcourt.

Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving: Scores 26 points, hits crucial three to help clinch championship in Game 7

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/20/16) Irving recorded 26 points (10-23 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block across 43 minutes during the Cavaliers' 93-89 win over the Warriors in Sunday's Game 7.

Irving canned arguably the biggest bucket of the game when he stepped back on the Warriors' Stephen Curry for a three-pointer that gave the Cavaliers the lead for good late in the fourth quarter. Irving shook off poor performances in the first two bouts of the NBA Finals to help Cleveland capture its first title in franchise history. He finished the series with averages of 27.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals, and Irving is likely set to have a spectacular season in 2016-17 after beginning 2015-16 on the injured list.

Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving: Plays effective complementary role in Game 6 victory

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/17/16) Irving tallied 23 points (7-18 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 7-7 FT), four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks over 39 minutes during Thursday's 115-101 victory over the Warriors in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

After helping spearhead the Cavs' attack for much of the previous three games, Irving took a slight step back Thursday as teammate LeBron James took over for large stretches. It was still a highly effective effort for the 24-year-old, who's now scored between 23 and 41 points in five of the series' six games. Irving has excelled across the stat sheet, even draining multiple threes in four straight. His contributions in Sunday's Game 7 will undoubtedly be pivotal to the Cavs' attempt to become the first team ever to overcome a 3-1 Finals deficit.

Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving: Torches Warriors for 41 points in Monday's Game 5 Win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/14/16) Irving exploded with 41 points (17-24 FG, 5-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six assists, three rebounds, two steals, and one block across 40 minutes during the Cavaliers' 112-97 win against the Warriors in Monday's Game 5.

Irving was absolutely incredible on Monday, scoring efficiently from every area of the floor to keep the Cavaliers' title hopes alive. Irving and LeBron James combined to post 82 points, and they'll have to bring their best effort once again on Thursday if they hope to force a decisive Game 7. Since struggling from the field in the first two games of the NBA Finals, Irving has averaged 35 points per contest (on 56 percent shooting) in the last three contests.

Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving: Posts team-high 34 points in Game 4 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/11/16) Irving posted a team-high 34 points (14-28 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-5 FT), and added four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block over 43 minutes during Friday's 108-97 loss to the Warriors in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

The 24-year-old point guard hit the 30-point mark for the second straight game, and enjoyed his third offensively successful effort of the series overall. Irving went well over 20 shot attempts for the third time in the four contests versus the Warriors, and he's now tallied a 49 percent success rate (26-for-53) from the field over the last pair of contests. He'll need to take the same initiative and provide similar production in Monday's pivotal Game 5 for the Cavaliers to have a chance to stave off elimination.
