|(7/27/15) What was long reported became official Monday, as the Warriors finalized a deal with the Celtics to send center David Lee to Boston in exchange for forward Gerald Wallace and guard Chris Babb.
The trade was first reported on July 7, but the Celtics needed to make various roster moves in order to facilitate the trade.
"On behalf of the entire Golden State Warriors organization, we thank David Lee for his contributions both on and off the court over the last five years," Warriors GM Bob Myers said.
Lee averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds last season in a reduced role, while Wallace was a non-factor for the Celtics, scoring just 1.1 points in nine minutes.
Celtics send Gerald Wallace to Warriors for David Lee
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(7/7/15) The Celtics have agreed to send small forward Gerald Wallace to the Warriors for power forward David Lee.
There will be no picks or cash involved in the deal, per CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger, who has reported that it's a straight-up deal.
The 33-year-old Wallace bottomed out last year, scoring just 1.1 points in nine minutes per game.
Lee came off the bench to spark the Warriors in the NBA finals against Cleveland, but his 7.9 scoring average in the regular season was his lowest since his rookie year of 2005-06. He did average 5.2 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.
Report: Celtics looking to deal first-round pick to dump Wallace
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(4/27/15) The Celtics have stockpiled draft picks over the years, and they are hoping to use one of their first-round picks to sweeten a deal that would allow them to get veteran Gerald Wallace off their roster, per ProBasketballTalk.com.
Wallace is owed $10.1 million next season and the 33-year-old wasn't much more than a deep bench option this season for the Celtics. Boston, meanwhile, has up to 10 first-round picks in the next four drafts, making it worth the cost of taking on Wallace's salary.
Celtics forward Gerald Wallace to consider retirement in offseason
|by Brandon Wise | Staff Writer|
|(3/16/15) Celtics forward Gerald Wallace is starting to feel the old age get to him. The 14-year veteran has played just 27 of Boston's 65 games this year and will consider retirement during the offseason, reports The Boston Globe.
"Hopefully, I'll reflect going into the last year of my deal," he said. "This is my [14th] year. You kind of sit back and look at your career and all you've done and kind of just evaluate your past and try to set up for your future and see what you want to do. That’s the time I'll do it, in the offseason."
Wallace has scored just 23 points this season with 38 rebounds.
"I would love to continue to play, but it's more about my family and my kids," he said. "I'm only 32 years old and I've been in here 14 years. That's almost half of my life in this league. My kids are getting older. They're starting to play high school sports now. It depends on if they're comfortable with me still playing or they’re ready for me to come home and be part of their lives."
