Chris Kaman's Fantasy value gets a small boost

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/17/14) Trail Blazers center Chris Kaman seems likely to remain in a reserve role for the Blazers even in the wake of Robin Lopez's broken hand, but that doesn't mean his Fantasy value will remain static. At the Fantasy Basketball Today blog, I took a look at Kaman's Fantasy potential for the six weeks while Lopez is expected out:

"However, though the path to a larger role is clearer for him, Kaman still has plenty of questions attached to his value. Specifically, whether he can manage to hold up under the strain of more minutes. Kaman has been notoriously injury-prone in recent years, missing an average of 32 games per season between 2010-11 and 2013-14. He has not averaged more than 21 minutes per game since 2011-12, and might not be able to carry a larger load without setbacks.

Kaman should be productive in a larger role, but hopefully the Blazers are judicious with their usage of him. This team doesn't have the depth to afford losing Kaman as well, so it might be best to cap his minutes around 25 on most nights. Additionally, his production may not increase as much as we might hope, since he's going from anchoring the second unit to playing more with a Blazers' first unit that doesn't leave many shots left over for the fifth option."

Kaman is worth adding in many Fantasy leagues, though he probably shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end top-20 center even in an expanded role.

Blazers' Robin Lopez indicates he will miss nearly two months

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/16/14) After suffering a broken hand Monday against the Spurs, Trail Blazers center Robin Lopez indicated on his twitter account that he’ll miss six to seven weeks.

Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts previously said there was no timetable for Lopez’s return. In 25 games, Lopez is averaging 9.6 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Center Chris Kaman is Lopez’s backup and is averaging 10.0 points and 6.2 rebounds over 19.0 minutes per game.

Weird accident results in stitches in head for Blazers C Kaman

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/22/14) The availability of Trail Blazers center Chris Kaman for the Wednesday game against the host Lakers is in question after he suffered a head laceration in a bizarre accident Tuesday night.

Kaman received three stitches after being inadvertently bitten by Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov. Kaman backed into Mozgov while attempting to box him out, but as the former pushed the latter, Mozgov fell on Kaman's back and chomped on his head with his teeth.

"I went back pretty hard and I must've hit him in the chest," Kaman explained to The Oregonian. "He kind of folded over and his teeth went down on my head."

Kaman became bloodied and was pulled from the game.

Blazers C Chris Kaman off to flying start

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/8/14) New center Chris Kaman proved to be a bright light in a Tuesday night of darkness for the Trail Blazers. He hit 5 of 8 shots in 17 minutes for 10 points and added seven rebounds in a 92-73 loss to Utah.

Kaman was effective on midrange jumpers and moves close to the basket, per The Oregonian, which further reported that he rebounded and defended aggressively.

"I'm still trying to feel my way through things," Kaman said. "I know I can score the basketball. I've proven that over 11 years. And if that's what my role needs to be some of the time, I'm OK with that. If it's not, I just have to get to where I'm comfortable with whatever it is. I'm not there yet."

Chris Kaman joins Trail Blazers on two-year deal

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/4/14) The Trail Blazers added some depth to their frontcourt Thursday, agreeing to a two-year deal with center Chris Kaman, according to multiple media reports.

Kaman's deal could pay him $9.8 million over the course of the two seasons, though the second year only carries $1 million guaranteed. The 32-year-old appeared in 39 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
