Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Misses one FGA en route to 22 points Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/14/17) Allen put up 22 points (9-10 FG, 4-8 FT), four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 25 minutes during a 110-105 win over Houston on Friday.

This might be the most random scoring outburst of the season so far. The only part of Allen's game more notorious than his lockdown defense is his terrible offense. He's a poor ball-handler and a worse shooter, but he caught the hot hand on Friday and rode it to a win. It'd be a shock if he replicated this performance.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Collects double-double, six steals Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/7/17) Allen posted 11 points (5-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists across 48 minutes in a 128-119 overtime win over the Warriors on Friday.

While Allen's efficiency took a hit after he had gone a combined 13-of-20 (65%) from the field over the previous three games, the veteran's top-notch defense gave coach David Fizdale little reason to keep him on the bench. Thanks to playing all but five minutes of the win, Allen was able to rack up a season-high steal total to go with his third double-double of the campaign. Allen had only three double-doubles in the last two seasons combined.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Puts up 17 points, eight rebounds Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/28/16) Allen recorded 17 points (6-9 FG, 5-7 FT), eight rebounds, four steals and one assist across 35 minutes in a 113-103 loss to the Celtics on Tuesday.

Allen picked up some additional playing time with the Grizzlies holding out Mike Conley (toe) and Chandler Parsons (rest) for the contest and was able to reach double figures for the fourth time in five games. While he's more likely to sit in the 25-to-30-minute range Thursday against the Thunder if both Conley and Parsons are back in the fold, Allen's outstanding production of late makes him worth keeping active in most leagues. He's averaging 16.6 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 three-pointers and 1.2 steals in 29.0 minutes per game over the last five contests.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Turns in 16 points, nine boards Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/17/16) Allen recorded 16 points (6-13 FG, 4-6 FT), nine rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block across 34 minutes in Friday's 96-92 loss to the Kings.

The Grizzlies returned Mike Conley (back) from a nine-game absence, but Allen didn't see his playing time or scoring suffer as a result. Allen is now averaging 14.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.0 assist in 32.6 minutes per game over the past seven contests while shooting 52.4 percent from the field, which has made him a viable lineup option in many formats. However, with James Ennis (calf) and Chandler Parsons (knee) seemingly on the cusp of returns to restore some depth on the wing, Allen's production may not be sustainable for much longer.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Scores 16 points Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/15/16) Allen scored 16 points (7-17 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-5 FT) to go along with eight rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block in 33 minutes during the Grizzlies' 93-85 win over the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

It wasn't an efficient offensive performance, but Allen continues to impress overall. Not only is he averaging a career-best 5.1 rebounds, he is also posting more points per game than he has since 2006-07 while playing more minutes than he has since back in 2012-13. Even at 34 years of age, Allen is still one of the league's top perimeter defenders, and Marc Gasol's migration to the three-point line on offense has helped open up space, allowing Allen to wreak havoc on the interior (where he is much more comfortable). Given that Mike Conley (back) and Chandler Parsons (knee) figure to remain sidelined for at least the next several weeks, Allen will likely continue to be relied on fairly heavily going forward.
