Report: Mavs no longer pursuing Jermaine O'Neal

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/16/15) With reports indicating the Mavericks are the front-runners to land forward Amar'e Stoudemire, the Mavericks will not be signing center Jermaine O'Neal, reports ESPN.

O'Neal, 36, has not played this season and was hoping to sign with a team around the All-Star break. He played in 44 games last season and averaged 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds.

O'Neal released a statement on his Instagram account saying he wasn't sure if he'd play professional basketball again.

"I'm not sure if there will ever be another time or not for me and basketball, but what I do know at this moment is the time isn't right for me to play now," he said. "But just know I gave everything I had these last seven weeks and I greatly appreciate each and every one of you guys for the positive words of encouragement [through] my process."

Report: Mavericks confident they'll sign Jermaine O'Neal

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/26/15) The Mavericks are confident they'll sign Jermaine O'Neal, according to ESPN.

The 36-year-old O'Neal is planning a comeback, and is hoping to sign with a club around the All-Star break. O'Neal has told teams he doesn't want to sign until he's back in game shape. He spent the early part of the year with family, but started working out soon after. O'Neal spent last season with Golden State. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 44 games.

Report: Blazers want to bring in center Jermaine O'Neal

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/7/15) The Trail Blazers are the latest team to express an interest in signing 36-year-old center Jermaine O'Neal, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. Portland originally drafted O'Neal in 1996, where he spent four seasons.

With Robin Lopez and Joel Freeland both dealing with injuries which will keep them out of action for awhile, O'Neal would add depth to a depleted Trail Blazers roster, which has Chris Kaman and Myers Leonard still on the roster to play center.

He is also being pursued by the Dallas Mavericks to replace Brandan Wright, according to Stein.

O'neal averaged 7.9 points per game last year.

Free agent center Jermaine O'Neal nearing decision on return

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/23/14) Center Jermaine O’Neal took to Twitter to announce he is still contemplating where and if he'll play in the NBA during the 2014-15 season.

"For 18 long years sports has dominated my [family’s] life to a point that they have had to sacrifice things that was important to them," O’Neal said on his Twitter account. "So you can believe now whatever decision I make will be a pure family decision that my family will have a huge part on making with me."

The Mavericks are reportedly expressed interest in signing O’Neal to replace Brandan Wright, who was traded to the Celtics, reports ESPN.

Report: Mavericks eyeing Emeka Okafor, Jermaine O'Neal

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/19/14) Looking to replace recently traded center Brandan Wright, the Mavericks are targeting centers Jermaine O’Neal and Emeka Okafor, reports ESPN Dallas.

Wright was the first backup to center Tyson Chandler with Greg Smith also under consideration to fill Wright’s previous role.

Okafor has not played since 2012-13 while recovering from a herniated desk in his neck. O’Neal played for the Warriors last season and averaged 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds.
