Cardinals' Phil Dawson: Hits game-winner

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/20/17) Dawson hit three of four field goals and an extra point in Sunday's 16-13 overtime win over Indianapolis.

After hitting field goals of 27 and 40 yards earlier in the game, Dawson missed a 42-yarder as time expired in the fourth quarter that would have won the game. After a Jacoby Brissett pick, Dawson got another chance and ripped a 30-yard winner in overtime. The 19-year vet is four of six on field-goal tries to start the season.

Cardinals' Phil Dawson: Only one preseason miss so far

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(8/28/17) Dawson has been successful on four of five field-goal attempts and all six extra points in three preseason appearances to date.

The Cardinals stood by while Chandler Catanzaro made just 21 of 28 field goals last year, which, combined with four missed PATs, spurred the team to not extend a tender to the restricted free agent. At the same time, the front office signed Phil Dawson to fill one of the perceived weaknesses on the roster, and the veteran hasn't disappointed to date. Aside from a touchdown return on a short attempt of a 63-yarder in preseason Week 2 against the Bears, he's nailed his remaining four kicks, including the other two from 50-plus. Assuming his reliability extends into the regular season, Dawson could reach 100 points for the ninth time in his lengthy career as he finishes off drives in a Bruce Arians-coached offense.

Cardinals' Phil Dawson: Good from 60 yards in

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/29/17) Dawson will be given opportunities to attempt field goals from 50 yards and out, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. "Phil is from 60 in and he always has been," head coach Bruce Arians said. "He's never lost any distance. He can still kick off. The yard-line just moves back. If we get to the (opposing team's) 40, it's probably going to be a field goal."

Dawson languished in San Francisco the last two seasons, attempting just 48 field goals and finishing below 100 points each season. Arizona's offense is expected to present him more opportunities and his still-strong leg will get him a few more beyond that. During his career, Dawson has made 38 of 54 field goals from 50 yards and longer.

Cardinals' Phil Dawson: Inks contract with Cardinals

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/10/17) The Cardinals signed Dawson on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Dawson continues his nearly two-decade trek as an NFL kicker, joining the third organization of his career. He's been afforded the opportunity to replace Chandler Catanzaro, who connected on just 21 of 28 field goals last season. Falling below that mark (75 percent) twice in 18 campaigns, Dawson, a 84.5 percent career kicker, has missed just three tries in each of the past two campaigns. After having combined for 48 attempts over that span while kicking for the 49ers, Dawson's fantasy value could be in for a decent uptick in 2017, considering that Catanzaro recorded 59 attempts over his last two years in Arizona.

(3/9/17) The Cardinals signed Dawson on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Dawson continues his nearly two-decade trek as an NFL kicker, joining the third organization of his career. He's been afforded the opportunity following a subpar season from Chandler Catanzaro, a restricted free agent who connected on just 21 of 28 field goals last season. Falling below that mark (75 percent) twice in 18 campaigns, Dawson's veteran presence could be a determining factor for the No. 1 job, if Catanzaro is retained.
