49ers' Phil Dawson: Hits only field goal attempt Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(10/23/16) Dawson hit his only field goal attempt of 28 yards in Sunday's 34-17 loss to Tampa Bay.

Dawson won't be a top-10 scoring kicker playing behind an abysmal San Francisco offense. While he can't create field goal opportunities for himself, he has been hitting most of the ones that have been presented to him this season (88.9 FG%), making him a safe kicking option in leagues that penalize missed kicks. Standard leagues can probably find kickers with higher point potentials on a weekly basis.

49ers' Phil Dawson: Has biggest game in blowout loss Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(10/17/16) Dawson was perfect Sunday, hitting from 33, 47 and 48 and converting his only PAT attempt in a 45-16 loss to Buffalo.

Despite the final score, this game was actually relatively close trough three quarters, so Dawson was able to get in a few field goals before things got out of hand. The 41-year-old is proving to be accurate yet again, hitting seven of his eight field goal attempts this season. The only concern with Dawson is whether or not the 49ers' offense will be able to put him in a position to produce big fantasy days. Sunday was the first time this season that he attempted more than two field goals.

49ers' Phil Dawson: Does not attempt field goal Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(10/7/16) Dawson did not attempt a field goal in Thursday's 33-21 loss to Arizona, but he did convert all three of his PAT attempts.

While Dawson wasn't presented a field goal opportunity, a holding penalty forced him to have to make one of his three PAT attempts from 43 yards out, which was actually his longest kick of the season so far. The 49ers' offense has been inconsistent at best, so it is tough to recommend Dawson given how much the team struggles to move the ball.

49ers' Phil Dawson: Misses first field goal Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(9/26/16) Dawson converted one of his two field goal attempts Sunday, hitting from 22 but missing from 53 in a loss to Seattle.

With just three field goals through three games, Chip Kelly's uptempo offense hasn't resulted in more scoring opportunities for the veteran kicker. While Sunday's 53-yard miss likely didn't negatively affect fantasy owners, a successful attempt would have gone a long way in saving an otherwise mediocre output.

49ers' Phil Dawson: Converts all four PAT attempts Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(9/13/16) Dawson did not attempt a field goal but did convert all four PAT attempts in Monday's 28-0 win over the Rams.

Dawson was an intriguing kicking option coming into Week 1 with the 49ers not expected to have a strong red zone offense. That turned out not to be the case after San Francisco converted all four of their red zone appearances into touchdowns Monday, leaving the 41-year-old kicker with zero field goal attempts. Still, an uptempo Chip Kelly offense should provide Dawson with more scoring opportunities this season than he did under Jim Tomsula. His 27 field goal attempts last year were his lowest in a full season since 2001.
