Steve Breaston falling behind WR race
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (8/17/13) While Kenny Stills was leading the Saints in receiving in Friday's preseason win over Oakland, wide receiver Steve Breaston, his competition for the No. 3 WR spot on the depth chart, struggled in the game.
Stills went for 64 yards with a touchdown, catching all four targets, as Breaston managed just one grab for 4 yards. He was targeted twice in the game by New Orleans quarterbacks.
Breaston has just the one grab this preseason to this point while Stills already has five grabs for 86 yards and a score.
And the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Stills, a rookie from Oklahoma, has the edge over Breaston heading into the start of preseason action.
The report says "until further notice" Stills is in the lead for the spot behind Marques Colston and Lance Moore. Breaston likely will press him for the spot once he's acclimated to the offense, but Stills has a significant lead at this point.
Steve Breaston could help replace Morgan
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer (8/8/13) The Saints could turn to newly-signed veteran Steve Breaston to be their No. 3 receiver with Joe Morgan (knee) now out for the year, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
"I'm in a blessed situation here, I know that," Breaston said. "Now I've just got to take advantage of the opportunity so I can stay here."
The third receiver for the Saints has caught an average of 35 passes in Sean Payton's offense during his seven-year tenure.
Joe Morgan getting second opinion on injured knee
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer (8/6/13) Saints receiver Joe Morgan will seek a second opinion on his injured knee, coach Sean Payton said Monday per the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Morgan hurt himself during the team's scrimmage last saturday but Payton is mum on the extent of the injury.
The injury prompted the Saints to sign veteran receiver Steve Breaston. Second-year receiver Nick Toon, rookie Kenny Stills and a couple of other low-end receivers could also get looks as the No. 3 receiver while Morgan is sidelined.
At this point there's no telling if Morgan will be ready for the start of the season.
