Ravens soar in Super Bowl XLVII
(2/3/13) The Ravens DST turned in another exceptional performance as they survived San Francisco's late rally to win Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday. Baltimore also found the end zone on a 108-yard kickoff return from Jacoby Jones to start the second half. Jones' kickoff return became the longest touchdown in Super Bowl history, breaking Desmond Howard's mark set in Super Bowl XXXI. The Ravens forced two turnovers, a LaMichael James fumble and a Colin Kaepernick interception, to help seal a 34-31 victory.
Ravens pick apart Brady in win
(1/20/13) Tom Brady became the latest quarterback to be harassed by the surging Baltimore defense as the Ravens forced two interceptions on the New England star during a 28-13 victory in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. After picking off Denver's Peyton Manning twice during last week's Divisional Playoff win, Baltimore held Brady and the Patriots scoreless in the second half while posting 21 unanswered points. The Ravens have now recorded at least one interception in each playoff game this season and racked up five total picks.
Key INTs keep Ravens alive
(1/12/13) The Ravens DST broke an eight-game touchdown drought during Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game at Denver. Baltimore defensive back Corey Graham came up big with two interceptions on the evening -- a pick six in the opening quarter and a pivotal interception in overtime that led to the game-wining field goal. They allowed 398 yards of offense but managed to come up with three sacks and three turnovers, including a fumble recovery in a 38-35 double overtime victory.
Ravens don't yield TD
(1/6/13) The Colts rolled up 419 yards of offense Sunday against the Ravens, but they didn't manage a touchdown in a 24-9 Wild Card round playoff loss. The Colts finished with 152 rushing yards, but Baltimore held them to three field goals and forced two turnovers (one interception). Baltimore also managed three sacks of quarterback Andrew Luck.
The turnover on the Ravens defense following the Super Bowl was alarming but the team did a very nice job picking up veteran and rookie talent to fix the holes. The most notable signing is linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who should replace Paul Kruger effectively as a pass rusher. Dumervil had his best career stats as a 3-4 outside linebacker with the Broncos. Michael Huff will replace Ed Reed and rookie Matt Elam will replace Bernard Pollard. Arthur Brown should begin his NFL career following in Ray Lewis' foot steps and Chris Canty and Marcus Spears add quality veteran depth to the Ravens' defensive line. Throw in Jacoby Jones returning kicks and punts and suddenly the Ravens DST is back on the map as a legit Fantasy option. It's worth one of your last two picks on Draft Day. Just be warned that they get off to a tough start at Denver in Week 1. (Updated 5/15/13)
