Smith steps into No. 1 role
News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, former Ravens teammate Anquan Boldin said receiver Torrey Smith is ready to step into the role as the No. 1 option in the passing game in his third year. "Definitely," Boldin said. "He hasnt shied away from the moment. ... I think hes ready to step into that role." Smith agrees with Boldin, who was traded to San Francisco this offseason. "I dont view it any differently. My job is the same," Smith told CBSSports.com. "Its not like Im going to move in the slot where (Boldin) was doing most of the work. My responsibilities are still going to be the same on the outside. Im just going out to go out there and be the best player I can be. I have higher goals for myself than anyone else. Im excited about it. Its a new challenge. Hopefully Ill use what Ive learned over these past two years and show everyone else that I can handle the load."
Analysis: Smith also said he buys into the third-year receiver theory. And he said his goals this season are 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. We like Smith a lot heading into his third year, and he presents a ton of upside as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver with a mid-round pick. If Smith picks up the slack with Boldin gone and matures in his third year, this could be a fantastic breakout campaign.

Smith held to two grabs in win
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith was unable to get going offensively against the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. He caught a pass for 20 yards in the opening drive and did not come up with a grab until the third quarter. Smith was targeted six times but finished with just two catches for 35 yards in a 34-31 victory.
Analysis: Smith was held in check for the second straight game as he racked up 233 receiving yards and two touchdowns through four postseason games. He finished with 49 catches for 855 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012. The 24-year-old set career-high numbers in every category except receptions this season. He will head into 2013 as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy receiver, and likely a mid-round selection come Draft Day.

Smith having good playoffs
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith is hoping to play at a high level in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday against the 49ers in New Orleans. Smith has done a nice job in the playoffs thus far with nine catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns against Indianapolis, Denver and New England. This is a good matchup for him since the 49ers have allowed multiple receivers to score double digits in Fantasy points in each playoff game (James Jones and Greg Jennings for the Packers and Julio Jones and Roddy White for the Falcons). Combined in the playoffs, San Francisco has given up 41 catches for 524 yards and four touchdowns to opposing receivers.
Analysis: Smith remains a solid option in all Playoff Challenge leagues. He also heads into 2013 as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy receiver in what will be his third year in the NFL. A good performance in the Super Bowl could propel Smith's Fantasy value for next season.

Smith held to 69 yards vs. Pats
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith shook off a back issue and turned in decent performance during Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Patriots. Smith, who scored twice in his last meeting against New England was held out of the end zone in the rematch. He was targeted nine times and finished with four catches for a team-high 69 yards in a 28-13 victory.
Analysis: Smith was unable to follow up his multi-touchdown performance his last time out and was held under 70 receiving yards second time in the playoffs. In fact, he has racked up 198 yards and two touchdowns through three postseason games thus far. He'll now face a stingy San Francisco defense that has allowed seven touchdowns to wide receivers in the last four games, including the postseason. Opposing wide receivers have scored 17.7 Fantasy points per game this season against the Niners. Consider the 23-year-old as a quality option in any Playoff Challenge formats for the Super Bowl.

Smith active for Championship game
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was listed as active for Sunday's AFC Championship against the Patriots despite dealing with a back issue. The last time Smith faced the Patriots in Week 3 it was an emotional game for him following the death of his brother. He had a tremendous outing with six catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns on 10 targets.
Analysis: He had another two-touchdown game against the Broncos last week, and the Patriots have struggled with receivers all year, including six receivers scoring at least nine Fantasy points in the past five games. We like Smith to remain hot in the AFC Championship Game, and he should be considered a quality option in any Playoff Challenge formats. It would be a surprise if he had two touchdowns, but he could reach double digits in Fantasy points again in this matchup.

Smith strikes twice vs. Denver
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith came up big with a stellar performance during Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Broncos. Smith turned in his third multi-touchdown performance of the season as he blew by defensive back Champ Bailey throughout the night. He brought down two touchdowns in the first half -- a 59-yard strike from Joe Flacco in the first quarter and another 32-yard pass from Flacco in the second quarter. Smith was targeted six times and finished with three catches for a team-high 98 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-35 double overtime victory.
Analysis: Smith continues to outplay his fellow wide receiver Anquan Boldin as of late and surprised owners who gambled with the 23-year-old as he was able to have his way in his matchup with the veteran Bailey. Smith has now five catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns while collecting 10 targets over his last two playoff games. He'll face the winner of Sunday's Houston-New England game next week in the AFC Championship game. Smith caught six passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns against New England in Week 3 and was held to just four catches for 41 yards against Houston in Week 7. He should be viewed as a viable play in all Playoff Challenge formats heading into the AFC Championship game.

Smith ready to face Broncos
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith is active for Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game at Denver. Smith has been limited in practice due to his back injury, but was listed as probable on the official injury report. The last time Smith faced the Broncos was in Week 15, and he had a rough game. Smith was held to one catch for 14 yards on three targets, and he saw plenty of Champ Bailey in that game. Smith is also coming off a poor showing in the Wild Card round against the Colts with two catches for 31 yards on four targets.
Analysis: Smith is not a great Fantasy option in the Playoff Challenge because of the potential matchup with Bailey. He's also getting outplayed by Anquan Boldin, who has at least nine Fantasy points in four of his past five games, including the Wild Card win against the Colts when he had five catches for 145 yards and a touchdown. Plus the Ravens' long-term prognosis isn't very good. Tack on a back injury that popped up in practice this week and we would avoid Smith if possible this week.

Smith limited but probable
News: Torrey Smith was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday with a back injury but the team has listed him as probable for their Divisional Playoff game at Denver. The last time Smith faced the Broncos was in Week 15, and he had a rough game. Smith was held to one catch for 14 yards on three targets, and he saw plenty of Champ Bailey in that game. Smith to face Bailey
News: The last time Ravens receiver Torrey Smith faced the Broncos in Week 15 he had a rough game, and Smith heads to Denver this weekend for the Divisional round of the playoffs. Smith was held to one catch for 14 yards on three targets, and he saw plenty of Champ Bailey in that game. Smith is also coming off a poor showing in the Wild Card round against the Colts with two catches for 31 yards on four targets.

Smith has quiet playoff game
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith totaled two catches for 31 yards during a 24-9 Wild Card round win vs. Indianapolis. Smith's longest catch went 22 yards and he was targeted four times.
Analysis: Although Smith was hardly reliable week-to-week for Fantasy owners, he still finished as a Top 30 Fantasy receiver in 2012. Smith's numbers from his first to second season were pretty similar. He had 50 catches for 841 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2011 and finished this season with 49 catches for 855 yards and eight touchdowns. We will obviously have similar expectations for Smith in 2013. Although, some folks will probably hold Smith in higher esteem heading into next season, which will be his third in the NFL and usually considered a breakout year for receivers. Smith will likely be more of a mid-round Fantasy pick next summer. As for his value heading into next week at Denver, consider Smith more of a secondary option in Playoff Challenge formats. Smith had one catch for 14 yards Week 15 vs. Denver.

Smith active for Colts game
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was cleared to play in Sunday's Wild Card game vs. Indianapolis after being listed as probable with a knee injury.
Analysis: Although Smith was hardly reliable week-to-week for Fantasy owners, he still finished as a Top 30 Fantasy receiver in 2012. Consider him a viable second receiver in Fantasy playoff matchups. As for his 2013 Fantasy value, consider Smith more of a low-end Fantasy starter on Draft Day.

Smith should fly for Ravens
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith practiced in full for a third straight day and is probable for his team's playoff game vs. Indianapolis. Smith is dealing with a knee ailment.
Analysis: Smith hasn't been the model of consistency but he should be decent as a second receiver in any Fantasy playoff game, and hopefully he can take advantage of a Colts defense that has allowed 16 touchdowns to opposing receivers this season. Smith will likely serve as more of a third receiver for Fantasy owners in 2013.

Smith happy at home
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith is glad to be playing at home in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the Colts this weekend. Smith has seven touchdowns at home this year, and No. 1 receivers have done serious damage against the Colts with 12 reaching double digits in Fantasy points. Smith scored in his last home game against the Giants in Week 16.
Analysis: We like Smith as a solid Fantasy option in the Fantasy playoffs. If you need a receiver with the chance to score well with a favorable matchup then plan on using Smith against the Colts.

Smith sits early
News: With the Ravens already set in their postseason seeding entering Week 17, they decided to sit most of their starters early in the game. Wide receiver Torrey Smith played just the first quarter of Sundays game against the Bengals, finished with one rush for -4 yards, and no receptions. He was targeted just once in the game, in a 23-17 loss.
Analysis: We expected a breakout performance in Smiths second NFL season, but he pretty much replicated his rookie seasons stat line. Smith finished with 49 receptions for 855 yards and eight touchdowns, putting him one reception behind his rookie season total, with 14 more yards and one additional touchdown. He certainly did not have a bad season, but he struggled with consistency and did not take the step forward we hoped for. Smith should be well rested heading into the postseason, and can be considered a decent Fantasy option for playoff challenge formats.

Smith ready for Cincy
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith will be looking to end the regular season on a high note heading into Sunday's contest at Cincinnati in Week 17. Smith caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Giants. He'll face a Cincinnati defense that has allowed a touchdown to a wide receiver in four of the last five weeks. Smith caught two passes for just 57 yards in the season opener against the Bengals.
Analysis: Smith still remembers his 165-yard performance, one-touchdown performance against Cincinnati last season and has averaged 85 yards and a touchdown in three career meetings against the Bengals. He has 855 yards and eight touchdowns this season, which is higher than his rookie numbers last season. He'll need a monster 145-yard performance to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. opposing wide receivers have scored an average of 16.9 Fantasy points per game this season against the Bengals. Fantasy owners should view him as a viable option in deeper formats heading into Week 17 at Cincinnati.

Smith has big game against Giants
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-14 win over the Giants. He was targeted a team-high 11 times.
Analysis: Smith was coming off a disappointing run of three games, with six total points and a concussion in that span. The 88 yards were the fourth-most of the season for him, and the touchdown was the eight of the season. While it was good to see Smith get back into double-digit Fantasy points, there still exists some worry that he tends to disappear from time to time, like, for instance, the three previous games. When Smith is on, though, he's capable of big things, and the 11 targets were the third-most this year. Smith remains a borderline WR2/flex start for Week 17 against the Bengals. He caught two passes for 57 yards in Week 1 against Cincinnati.

Smith good to go
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has passed his baseline neurological test and is active for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Smith's debut in new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell's scheme was far from impressive last week as he posted just one reception for 14 yards before being knocked out with a concussion. His Week 16 opponent, the Giants, have given up the sixth-most Fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season (24.1), but Smith has already faltered this season against Washington (third-most points allowed to wide receivers) and Houston (seventh-most), so there's little reason to believe that he will do well against New York. Consider Smith a low-end option for Week 16 as he cannot be counted on for any kind of consistency, but does tend to have big games from time to time.

Smith still awaiting final clearance
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith is considered questionable for Week 16 against the Giants as he continues to nurse a head injury he suffered in his previous game. Smith, who has practiced on a limited basis without contact the past two days, has yet to take a league-mandated concussion test that would clear him for Sunday's game. That should occur over the weekend and he is expected to play, according to the Baltimore Sun. But he has totaled 68 yards in his last four games, all following a 144-yard performance in Week 12. New York is surrendering an average of 253.7 passing yards per game, the fifth-highest total in the NFL.
Analysis: Smith's debut in new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell's scheme was far from impressive last week as he posted just one reception for 14 yards before being knocked out with a concussion. His Week 16 opponent, the Giants, have given up the sixth-most Fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season (24.1), but Smith has already faltered this season against Washington (third-most points allowed to wide receivers) and Houston (seventh-most), so there's little reason to believe that he will do well against New York -- if he's even cleared. Consider Smith a low-end option for Week 16 as he carries significant injury risk and could let Fantasy owners down again if he's active.

Ravens welcome back Smith
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who missed practice Wednesday because of a concussion suffered Week 15, returned to practice Thursday as the team prepares for Week 16 vs. N.Y. Giants. However, Smith was limited and has yet to be cleared for contact.
Analysis: Smith's presence at practice could be a very good sign about his status for Week 16. However, players are allowed to practice without being cleared by an independent neurologist. They just can't be cleared for contact before meeting with the independent neurologist. Smith has just six Fantasy points in his last three games. His Week 16 opponent, the Giants, have given up the sixth-most Fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season, but Smith has already faltered this season against Washington (third-most points allowed to wide receivers) and Houston (seventh-most), so there's little reason to believe that he will do well against the Giants. Even if he plays, Smith has low-end Fantasy appeal Week 16.

Smith misses first practice
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who suffered a concussion Week 15, missed the first practice of the week Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 16 vs. N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: The Ravens could absolutely use Smith's presence Sunday in a critical showdown with the Giants. However, the NFL has strict protocol for concussions and Smith has to be cleared by an independent neurologist before returning to action. Fantasy owners should be preparing to start a healthier alternative Week 16. It's not like Smith's recent production would have made him a must-start option. He has just six Fantasy points in his last three games.

Smith not doing much lately
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has totaled 68 yards in his last four games, all following a 144-yard performance in Week 12. Smith may have produced better numbers in Week 15, but he suffered a concussion in the third quarter and was forced out of the game. Still, his debut in the Jim Caldwell offense was far from impressive, and Smith gave owners little hope that he can be anything more than a high-risk, high-reward gamble over the next two weeks.
Analysis: Smith's game log is a dizzying array of inconsistency; over his last six games, he has put up 18, 14, three, two, one, and zero Fantasy points. In fact, the Giants could have the best wide receiver defense in the NFL, and Smith would have just as good of a chance at having a solid game -- he's a deep threat receiver who cannot be relied on, but offers a chance at an explosive game. If you're willing to gamble on Smith, you can hope for a 20-point game, but should expect four points, as well. Monitor his health as the game approaches, and treat a healthy Smith as a low-end flex option against New York.

Smith leaves with concussion
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith left the team's Week 15 game in the third quarter against the Broncos with a concussion. He did not return.
Analysis: Smith had one catch for 14 yards at the time, and was injured while jumping over Champ Bailey on a long pass attempt along the sideline. He made the catch, but fell just out of bounds, hitting his head on the ground as he fell. Smith now has 68 total yards in his last three games, after a 144-yard performance in Week 12. With a date against the Giants in Week 16, Smith -- who has seven touchdowns on the season, but none in his last five games -- projects as a flex, at best, after three lackluster weeks in a row.

Smith continues to befuddle
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith continued his wildly erratic ride through 2012 in Week 14, with a one-catch, 21-yard performance against a rather weak Washington pass defense. Smith has seven touchdowns on the season, with five games of double-digit scoring, but he has found a way to totally destroy any momentum from his big games by peppering disappointing ones throughout. His longest streak of double-digit Fantasy points this season? Two games.
Analysis: The frustrating thing with Smith is that, once you've given up on him, he'll catch seven passes for 144 yards. And once you believe in him, he'll catch one pass for seven yards. It's a maddening, dog-chasing-tail dance on a weekly basis. With Jim Caldwell replacing Cam Cameron as offensive coordinator in Week 15, there's no telling how -- of even if -- Smith's role will change, so his owners have to rely on what he's done this season and hope it somehow stays the course. Smith has six touchdowns at home compared to one on the road (the Ravens are at home in Week 15), and gains about 18 more yards per game at home, as well. While Denver has allowed the ninth-fewest receiving yards this season, they've allowed the 11th-most receiving touchdowns, including two in the last two games. If your gut is telling you to play Smith this week, by all means, do. But Smith's erratic play makes him a dangerous WR2 and a risky flex for Week 15.

Smith hauls in one Week 14 pass
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith was held in check on Sunday of Week 14 during the overtime loss at Washington. Smith struggled in his first Beltway rivalry game as he caught just one pass for 21 yards. He was targeted three times overall from quarterback Joe Flacco.
Analysis: Smith has actually now been limited in his production in back-to-back games as Flacco has been unable to hit him for the deep ball. He's seeing plenty of targets, he's just not coming down with the big receptions. That said, it was just two weeks ago that Smith caught seven passes for 144 yards against the Chargers. He has the big-play ability to remain a viable start in deeper formats for Week 15 against Denver.

Smith ready for Beltway rivalry
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith played his college football at Maryland so he is plenty versed in the rivalry between the Ravens and Redskins. Smith will get his first taste of action in the Beltway rivalry on Sunday of Week 14 in Washington. Smith should make a big impact in the game considering Washington has been terrible against the pass this season. The Redskins are giving up the second-most Fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers on the year. Nine different receivers have gone over 100 yards against the Redskins this year.
Analysis: Smith has an excellent matchup in his favor in the Week 14 game. He needs just eight catches to register 100 for his career and that is a possibility against a team that has allowed a player to rack up eight or more catches five times this season. Smith struggled last week, but went for 144 yards two weeks ago at San Diego. He has seven touchdowns on the season and should be considered a must-start Fantasy receiver for the Week 14 game.

Smith quiet vs. Steelers
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was not much of a factor in Week 13 against the Ravens. Smith hauled in just three catches for 33 yards in the 23-20 defeat and was unable to get into the end zone. His longest reception went for 13 yards and he did not register a catch after halftime. Anquan Boldin led Baltimore in receiving as he finished with five catches for 81 yards and a score.
Analysis: Flacco tried to get the ball to Smith on a free deep routes but the Steelers made sure to have two defenders around him for most of the game. While the 23-year-old remains the Ravens' big-play threat and has already matched his touchdown total from his rookie campaign, he still turns in way too many stinkers for Fantasy owners liking. However, he looks to have a very favorable matchup on tap in Week 14 against the Redskins. Washington has been susceptible to the big play through the air all season long, so we would expect the Ravens to try and exploit that with Smith next week. Fantasy owners should consider the second-year wideout a viable start in most formats against Washington.

Smith officially ruled active
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was ruled active for Week 13 against the Steelers. Smith was limited in practice in the early part of the week due to a thigh injury. Pittsburgh boasts the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL, giving up under 166 yards per game, and has limited opposing wideouts to an average of 14.6 Fantasy points.
Analysis: Smith was held to just one catch for 7 yards when he faced the Steelers earlier in the year but is coming off a performance in which he gained 144 yards on seven grabs a week ago. While he is not expected to be limited by his thigh injury he does look to have a tough matchup on tap. Pittsburgh has also not surrendered a touchdown to an opposing wideout in each of its last four games, while holding each one to single digits in Fantasy points. Consider Smith more of a low-end or flex option in most formats for Week 13.

Smith practices in full again
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was a full participant in practice for the second straight day Friday and is being considered as probable for Week 13 against the Steelers. He was limited earlier in the week due to a thigh injury.
This thigh injury should not hinder him Sunday so owners need not worry. Pittsburgh has also not surrendered a touchdown to an opposing wideout in each of its last four games, while holding each one to single digits in Fantasy points. Consider Smith more of a low-end or flex option in most formats for Week 13.

Smith upgraded to full practice
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, who was limited in practice Wednesday because of a thigh injury, was upgraded to full participation Thursday and is expected to play Week 13 vs. Pittsburgh. Smith will be facing a Pittsburgh defense that is boasting the league's top ranked pass defense, allowing just 165 yards per game through the air. The Steelers have surrendered 12 passing touchdowns, while yielding an average of 14.6 Fantasy points per week to wide receivers, which is the lowest average in the NFL.
Analysis: This is the time of year where you see a lot of players appearing on the injury report for minor bumps and bruises. Smith doesn't have a major injury and should play Week 13. While Smith has already matched his touchdown total from his rookie season with seven, he has been a bit inconsistent and hauled in just one reception for 7 yards in his lone meeting against the Steelers a few weeks ago. Pittsburgh has also not surrendered a touchdown to an opposing wideout in each of its last four games, while holding each one to single digits in Fantasy points. Consider Smith more of a low-end or flex option in most formats this week.

WR Smith nursing thigh injury
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday because of a thigh injury. However, Smith is expected to play in Baltimore's Week 13 matchup against the Steelers as he is listed as probable on the team's injury report. He will be facing a Pittsburgh defense that is boasting the league's top ranked pass defense, allowing just 165 yards per game through the air. The Steelers have surrendered 12 touchdowns through the air while yielding an average of 14.6 Fantasy points to opposing WRs, which is the fewest among all 32 teams.
Analysis: This is the time of year where you see a lot of players appearing on the injury report for minor bumps and bruises. Smith doesn't have a major injury and should play Week 13, but Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward just to be sure. While Smith has already matched his TD total from his rookie season with seven, he has been a bit inconsistent and hauled in just one reception for 7 yards in his lone meeting against the Steelers this year. Pittsburgh has also not surrendered a TD to an opposing wideout in each of its last four games while holding each one to single digits in Fantasy points. Smith charged up in Week 12
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith posted seven catches for a season-high 144 yards during Baltimore's 16-13 overtime win over San Diego in Week 12. Smith effectively rebounded from his worst performance of the season when he managed just one reception for seven yards last Sunday against Pittsburgh and was targeted 13 times by quarterback Joe Flacco. His longest catch of the game -- 54 yards -- represented a higher amount than his total in five of his previous six outings prior to Sunday's matchup.
Analysis: Smith was able to shake off a thigh bruise that forced him to briefly leave the game in the third quarter and matched his season high for targets. He has now registered two 100-yard outings this year as he serves as the Ravens' only threat downfield. Smith's average of 20.6 yards per catch marked the fifth time he has posted a clip of at least 20 yards a reception. Despite the impressive yardage total, he was unable to reach the end zone and remains stuck on seven scores for the season. Still, he remain active in most Fantasy formats for Week 13 in the rematch against the Steelers.

Smith seeks quick rebound
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith enters Week 12 at San Diego in need of just one touchdown catch to surpass his total from his rookie campaign (seven). He's also in search of a rebound following his worst outing of the season when he was held to just one reception for seven yards in a win over Pittsburgh last Sunday. Smith, who was still targeted seven times by quarterback Joe Flacco, will look for improvement against a Chargers defense that ranks 19th in the NFL against the pass (236 yards allowed per game).
Analysis: Smith was a standout for the Ravens during his first season in the league last year and his high game for receptions was six -- against San Diego. One of those catches included a 36-yard touchdown reception in a loss to the Chargers in Week 15 of last season. It's the only time the Ravens have lost when Smith has reached the end zone (9-1). They will look to turn their fortunes around Sunday as San Diego has yielded an average of 22.4 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts. Consider Smith a viable option in most formats for Week 12.

Smith disappears vs. Steelers
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was able to play through a lingering chest injury in Week 11 against the Steelers. Smith was practically invisible throughout the game as he hauled in his first pass with just over four minutes remaining in the game. He turned his worst performance of the season and finished with a lone catch for 7 yards despite being targeted seven times in a 13-10 victory. He was the fifth-leading receiver behind Anquan Boldin, Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce and Ed Dickson.
Analysis: Smith was held out of the end zone for just the third time in his last eight games and saw his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown come to an end. He endured a strange game against a tough defense as he received the second-most targets on the team. Smith will try to bounce back against the Chargers in Week 12. San Diego has allowed four touchdowns to wide receivers in the last two game, which could lead to a favorable matchup for the 23-year-old. Fantasy owners should view him as a decent flex option in most formats heading into Week 12.

Chest injury won't keep Smith from playing
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was officially ruled active, as expected, for Sunday's contest against the Steelers in Week 11. Smith was limited in practice all week with a chest injury, but was never a threat to miss Sunday's divisional matchup. He has back-to-back games with a touchdown and will try to extend his streak to three games against a stingy Pittsburgh defense that has not allowed a touchdown to a wide receiver in the past two games.
Analysis: Smith has four touchdowns in his last four games but has only hit the century mark once this season. The 23-year-old continues to be the deep threat for quarterback Joe Flacco in Baltimore and while he has only been able to bring down 12 of the 32 passes thrown his way for 178 yards in the previous four contests, he has become a reliable option in Fantasy. Smith should be viewed as a decent flex option in deeper formats heading into Week 11 now that he is officially active.

Smith ready to go vs. Steelers
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday but is being considered as probable for Week 11 against Pittsburgh. He was slowed by a chest injury. Opposing wide receivers have scored an average of 16.4 Fantasy points per game against the Steelers, which is tied for the second-fewest in the league.
Analysis: Smith has scored a touchdown in three of his last four games, including two games in a row. He has four touchdowns in his last four games but has only hit the century mark once this season. The 23-year-old continues to be the deep threat for quarterback Joe Flacco in Baltimore and while he has only been able to bring down 12 of the 32 passes thrown his way for 178 yards in the previous four contests, he has become a reliable option in Fantasy. Smith should be viewed as a decent flex option in deeper formats heading into Week 11.

Smith looking to keep TD streak alive
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith will be looking to extend his touchdown streak heading into Week 11 at Pittsburgh. Smith has scored a touchdown in three of his last four games, including two games in a row. He has four touchdowns in his last four games but has only hit the century mark once this season. He'll try to keep his streak alive against a stingy Pittsburgh defense that has not allowed a touchdown to a wide receiver in the past two games.
Analysis: Smith scored a touchdown and racked up 71 yards in his last meeting against the Steelers in his rookie season. Though he has caught four touchdowns in his last four games, he has only been able to bring down 12 of the 32 passes thrown his way for 178 yards over that span. He has been a bit inconsistent this season and has just two double-digit performances in his last five matchups in Fantasy. Opposing wide receivers have scored an average of 16.4 Fantasy points per game against the Steelers, which is tied for the second-fewest in the league. He should be viewed as a decent flex option in deeper formats heading into Week 11.

Smith catches two TDs against Raiders
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith caught his sixth and seventh touchdowns of the season on Sunday in Baltimore's 55-20 blowout of the Raiders. This was Smith's second two-touchdown game this year, and his 67 receiving yards were the most since Week 4.
Analysis: One word of caution with Smith's game -- he only caught two passes, both of which were touchdowns. Still, he was targeted six times and scored two touchdowns, so you won't hear many Fantasy owners complaining. Smith does, however, tend to be a little inconsistent, and this 18-point game is just his second double-digit Fantasy game in his last five. Owned in 100 percent of leagues, Smith is a decent WR2 start heading into a Week 11 matchup against the Steelers, but be prepared for anything from a four-point game to a 15-point game.

Smith looking for consistency
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has five touchdowns on the season, but only two games of over 60 yards receiving and just three games of double-digit Fantasy scoring. He's averaged 11 targets over the last two games, but it's been just the latest in a string of inconsistent stretches. Over the first two games, he averaged four targets, the next two he averaged 10 targets, and over Weeks 5 and 6, he averaged four. His lack of consistency has made Smith a tough slam-dunk recommendation, despite his skill at receiver.
Analysis: Smith has been hindered by the lack of a big play this season; the deepest catch he's made has been for 52 yards, in Week 1. In fact, his longest play in a game had decreased every week since then (40 yards in Week 2, 38, 34, 26, 19, 15 thereafter) until he reversed the trend in Week 9 with a 26-yard catch. Smith does have the advantage of playing at home in Week 10, as he is averaging 76.3 yards per game at M&T Bank Stadium (as opposed to 44 yards per game on the road), and has scored four of his touchdowns at home. Oakland has allowed 14 receiving touchdowns this year (eighth-most in the NFL), which is an important stat for Smith, as he's getting value from TDs and not yards. Add this all up, and Smith is a decent flex start -- he is hit or miss, but at least has things lined up for more for "hit" in Week 10 against the Raiders.

Smith soars into end zone
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith had four receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' 25-15 win over Cleveland in Week 9. Smith was generating a relatively quiet afternoon before hauling in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco in the fourth quarter, which also represented his only catch in the second half. He finished with a team-high nine targets from Flacco as he turned in a long gain of 26 yards.
Analysis: While Smith hasn't produced many impressive yardage totals, but he has had a knack for finding the end zone recently. The 23-year-old has failed to surpass 50 yards over his past four games, yet he has two touchdowns in that span and ranks first among all Ravens receivers with five total scores on the season. Smith has the ability to erupt for big games because of his impressive speed downfield, and should be considered a quality option in deeper Fantasy formats for Week 10 against Oakland.

Smith searching for encore
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith should fondly remember his first meeting with Cleveland this season. After all, it was one of his finest outings of the season. Smith registered six catches for 97 yards -- his second-highest total of the year -- and a touchdown during the Ravens' victory in Week 4. The two teams square off again in Week 9 and Smith will be seeking his fifth touchdown of the season. The Browns have had difficulty containing the passing game year and rank 25th in the NFL (260.8 passing yards allowed a week).
Analysis: Since his last game against Cleveland, Smith has struggled to post robust numbers and has not topped 50 yards in his past three outings. He is also averaging just three receptions per game in that span as the Ravens offense has surprisingly stumbled upon some inconsistency against some inferior opponents. The Browns haven't allowed a touchdown to an opposing receiver in the past two weeks, but they have been on the hook for multiple scores on four separate occasions this year. Smith is certainly worthy of starting as a bye-week replacement in most Fantasy formats for the enticing Week 9 matchup.

Smith held in check in Week 7
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was held under 50 yards for the third consecutive game against the Texans in Week 7. Smith, who has not had a 100-yard performance since Week 3, could not get going offensively and finished with four catches for 41 yards in a 43-13 defeat. Smith caught a short pass late in the third quarter and stretched it out for a 15-yard gain, his longest play of the afternoon. He was targeted 13 times and averaged 10.3 yards per catch.
Analysis: Smith wasn't the only player for the Ravens to have a hard time against Houston's defense and because of Joe Flacco's inefficiency, he was only able to bring down four catches out of 13 passes thrown his way. Smith has been held under 60 yards receiving in five of his first seven games this season. He has 435 yards on 25 catches to go along with four touchdowns this season and has been held out of the end zone in two of his last three games. Smith will head into Week 8 on a bye and will have an extra week to prepare for his upcoming matchup against the Browns in Week 9. The Browns allowed 186 yards passing to Andrew Luck and the Colts in Week 7. Fantasy owners should view him as a decent Fantasy option heading into Week 9.

Smith looking to bounce back in Week 7
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith heads into Week 7 with a tough matchup on the road against the Texans. Smith, who has been held under 40 yards receiving in his last two games, will encounter a Houston defense that's ranked seventh against the pass, allowing 213.2 yards per game. That said, the Texans were torched at home in Week 6 against the Packers and permitted 338 yards passing through the air and allowed two wide receivers to eclipse the 100-yard mark while yielding five touchdowns. Smith faced the Texans twice last year, including the playoffs, and racked up 93 yards on four receptions combined in the two meetings.
Analysis: Smith found the end zone last week, but has been ultimately struggled to make much of an impact through his first two road game, 44.5 receiving yards per game and has yet to reach the end zone away from Baltimore. The Texans have permitted 21.67 Fantasy points per game but have held their opponents under 17 Fantasy points in four of their first six games. Smith has shown the ability to make big plays but will have a tough matchup at his hands, making him a decent starting option in most Fantasy formats heading into Week 7.

Smith scores, does little else
News: Most Ravens' numbers were limited in Week 6 vs. Dallas and Torrey Smith's were no exception. Smith scored on a 19-yard pass from Joe Flacco and caught a screen for another 5 yards on Sunday. That's it. He was targeted just four times in the game as the Ravens held the ball for just under 20:00 of game clock.
Analysis: The good news is that Smith has four touchdowns in his last three home games and continues to be a popular pick for Flacco to throw to. The bad news is that his next two games are on the road (where his quarterback struggles) and has a bye week in-between. The Ravens next play at Houston, a challenge for Smith as the Texans gave up two touchdowns and one 100-yard game to wide receivers through their first five games. Expectations are tempered for Smith in Week 7, making him a decent starting option instead of a potential Top-15 receiver.

Smith shrugs off poor performance
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith is not worried about bouncing back from his season-worst performance in Week 5 against the Chiefs. "It's only been one game, it happens," said Smith, who has caught 19 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns this year. "I'm not worried about it. I go out there and play. If the ball comes my way, I make the play. If it doesn't, I'm going to block and it opens it up for other guys. That's my job as a receiver." Smith was limited to just three catches for 38 yards against the Chiefs, so he will look to bounce back in Week 6 against the Cowboys.
Analysis: The Cowboys have been very strong against the pass this season, allowing touchdowns to wide receivers in just one game this season. Opposing wide receivers have averaged just 14.20 Fantasy points per game this season against Dallas, though they were torched in their last outing in Week 4. The Bears wide receivers managed 13 catches for 208 and two scores in that game. Smith might struggle to find room to operate against Dallas, but he should still be considered a viable starting Fantasy option in most formats for Week 6.

Smith held in check Week 5
News: The Chiefs' secondary held Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith to a season-low 38 yards on three catches Week 5. Smith, who had totaled 12 catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns in his previous two games, was targeted four times and his longest catch went 26 yards. He also had a 25-yard catch in the first quarter called back because of an illegal blocking penalty on Anquan Boldin.
Analysis: The Chiefs did a great job Week 5 of minimizing the impact Smith had in the passing game. Then again, Kansas City did a great job of limiting Baltimore to nine points and no touchdowns, so Smith wasn't the only player that had a disappointing day. Smith was still an advisable Fantasy start in all formats. He will continue to be a viable Fantasy play heading into Week 6 against the Cowboys. Although, we might have to temper expectations because the Cowboys have a strong secondary.

WR Smith active for Ravens
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith (ankle) is active for Week 5 at Kansas City after being listed as probable on the injury report. The receiver has totaled 12 catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns his last two games. Wide receivers have been averaging 126.8 yards and 19.5 Fantasy points per week against K.C. At least one receiver has scored each week against the Chiefs and wide receivers have totaled five touchdowns.
Analysis: Smith has scored in two straight games and has been getting the job done for Fantasy owners the last few weeks. This is a good matchup for him, so make sure to keep Smith active for Week 5. Quarterback Joe Flacco seems to have a lot of confidence in the second-year receiver.

Smith aiming to keep TD streak alive
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith was officially listed as probable Friday as he should have no trouble starting Week 5 at Kansas City. In fact, Smith aims to score in a career-best three straight games against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Since dealing with a personal tragedy, Smith has played inspired football the last two games. You really have to applaud his effort in the face of personal turmoil. It seems quarterback Joe Flacco has a lot more confidence in throwing Smith's way. Flacco has made some tough throws to Smith the last two games, but Smith has been athletic enough to go up and make the play, which has Flacco's confidence growing in getting him the football. Fantasy owners should keep Smith active heading into Week 5.

Smith scores yet again
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith followed up his breakout performance in Week 3 with another strong showing Thursday against the Browns, as he scored his third touchdown of the season in a 23-16 win. Smith brought in six passes for 97 yards in the game, and scored on an 18-yard pass from quarterback Joe Flacco, who looked his way 10 times in the game. Smith finished second in the team in yards and third in catches, however he brought in the teams lone touchdown pass. Smith was forced to limp off the field in the fourth quarter, but told reporters after the game that he was fine and that it was not an issue to worry about.
Analysis: Smith had just 108 yards total through the first two games of the season, but he has six catches for 224 yards over the last two games, as he seems to be hitting his stride. It helps that the Ravens are throwing the ball a ton right now; Smith finished third on the team in targets, but Flacco still looked his way 10 times out of 46 pass attempts. Smith has 332 yards on 16 catches this season, good for an average of 20.8 per catch. The Ravens will take on the Chiefs in their next game, set for Week 5 in Kansas City. Smith has never faced the Chiefs in his career, but they have allowed four receiving touchdowns to wide receivers through the first three weeks of the season, so Smith should be considered a viable starting option in most Fantasy formats for the game.

Smith focusing on football
News: Operating with little sleep and much emotion, Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith turned in his finest performance during Week 3 under the most difficult circumstances. Playing less than 24 hours after his younger brother died in a motorcycle accident, Smith scored two touchdowns and caught six passes for 127 yards in a win over New England. Only hours earlier, he wasn't even sure if he would suit up. "If you're around athletics, I guess you feel like it's an escape, an opportunity to do what he does. He's been doing it his whole life; he knows what to do," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "When Torrey said he wanted to play, the decision was finished. He was going to get the opportunity to play, he deserved that." Smith is hoping to regain a sense of normalcy during Week 4 against Cleveland, which is allowing an average of 269 passing yards per game.
Analysis: Smith's emotionally draining showing last Sunday helped him overcome a slow start to the season when he had just four receptions for 108 yards in his first two games. But Smith showed he can be relied on as quarterback Joe Flacco's top target and the two connected on three plays of at least 25 yards. He collected a team-high 10 targets last Sunday and he could be in store for another huge performance as the Browns are allowing an average of 31 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts -- third most in the NFL. Consider Smith a solid option in the majority of Fantasy formats for Week 4.

Smith spectacular amid heartbreak
News: Given the circumstances surrounding his Sunday, nobody would have blamed Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith for sitting out Sunday nights game against the Patriots in Week 3. Less than 24 hours before kickoff, Smith left the teams hotel to be with his family in Virginia, after learning of the death of his 19-year-old young brother, Tevin. Instead of sitting out, Smith told the team he would play, drove himself to the stadium from his familys home in Virginia and took the field, to a tearful return in a pre-game ceremony. With all of the emotion surrounding the game, Smith put up one of the best performances of his career, hauling in a pair of touchdown passes, while going over the 100-yard mark for the third time in his young career. Smith brought in six of the 10 passes thrown his way, and he scored on passes from 25 yards and 5 yards, to help the Ravens to a 31-30 win.
Analysis: This was not Smiths finest game from a statistical perspective -- he had 152 yards and three touchdowns in Week 3 of his rookie season -- but, given the context, it might have been his most unforgettable. Smith had been unimpressive through the first two weeks of the season, so it was excellent to see him break out in such a commanding performance. We expected to see more of these types of games from Smith this season, so hopefully this serves as a coming-out party. He may end up missing some time this week during practice, as the team may allow him to be with his family, but that should not be an impediment to him playing in Week 4. The Ravens have a short turnaround before Thursdays game against the Browns, and Smith recorded just 70 yards receiving in two games against them last season. Still, he should be considered a solid Fantasy option in many formats going forward.

Smith to play through tragedy
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith informed the team that he is willing to play Sunday despite the loss of his brother in a motorcycle accident early in the day, and he is in uniform and active for the teams Week 3 matchup against the Patriots.
Analysis: Nobody would have been able to blame Smith if he chose to sit this one out, as the team made abundantly clear earlier in the day, so it says a lot about his mental toughness that Smith is willing to take the field under these circumstances. Fantasy owners can feel safe getting Smith active for the late game, as a low-end starting option in most formats.

Smith still might play
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was back with his team in Baltimore Sunday afternoon, after traveling to Virginia to be with his family following the death of his younger brother earlier in the day. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Smith is planning on playing in the Sunday night game against the Patriots. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported that Smith has informed the team that he will play.
Analysis: Smith is obviously dealing with a deeply personal tragedy, so it would be impossible to blame him if he did not take the field, though it looks like that will not be the case. His thoughts may be elsewhere, but as long as he is on the field, Fantasy owners have to expect him to give his all. Smith should be activated as a low-end starting option in most Fantasy formats, barring any unforeseen development.

Tragedy could keep Smith out
News: CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports Ravens receiver Torrey Smith has left the team hotel following the death of his brother Tevin. The younger brother reportedly died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash about 2 a.m. Sunday in northeast Virginia. The Ravens play host to the Patriots on Sunday night and the team is leaving any decision to play up to Smith. "This is devastatingly sad, sad news. Torrey and his family are a close, special family, and our hearts and thoughts reach out to all of them. Our hearts ache today. We pray for Tevin, his mother, Torrey and the rest of the family. God bless Tevin," coach John Harbaugh said. La Canfora added that Smith will make a decision on his playing status during the day.
Analysis: Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with Smith following this terrible news and we hope to get word of his status prior to 1 p.m. ET. Fantasy owners need to use caution when setting lineups in case Smith decides to miss the game, which would be understandable given the situation. If he does play he would still be worth using as a low-end starter in standard leagues and a must-start option in three-receiver formats. Stay tuned and we hope to have the latest as the day goes on.

Smith hoping for clearance
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith entered the year with high hopes as an emerging deep thread, but through two games, he has yet to find much room to work through the air. Smith has brought in just four passes for 108 yards on the season, entering Week 3 against the Patriots. He showed what he can do in a post season game against the Patriots last year, as he went for 82 yards and a score on three catches in a 23-20 loss during the Divisional round.
Analysis: Smith started his season off in slow manner last season, before busting out for a gigantic five-catch, 152-yard, three-touchdown day in Week 3, so hopefully Week 3 serves him well again. The Patriots have been surprisingly stingy against wide receivers this season, allowing just 19 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns through two games, but they were one of the worst in the league last season. Smith is still a dynamic playmaker, but Fantasy owners will need to see him put it all together before considering him anything more than a low-end Fantasy starter for Week 3.

Smith with another two-grab game
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith only made two receptions in the Week 2 loss at Philadelphia. Smith caught a big 40-yard pass but had just one other 11-yard catch in the game to finish with 51 yards. Quarterback Joe Flacco targeted him five times in the game as he had trouble finding his wide receivers. Jacoby Jones had one catch for 21 yards and a touchdown and Anquan Boldin caught just two passes for 7 yards.
Analysis: Smith is that big-play receiver for the Ravens and has just four catches on the year after two games for 108 yards and no scores. He'll get into the end zone sooner or later on a long bomb, but his limited targets hurt his Fantasy value heading into Week 3 against New England. Smith's inability to touch the ball consistently makes him more of a flex option heading into the game against the Patriots.

Smith looking to torch Eagles
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith enters Week 2 at Philadelphia looking to score his first touchdown of the season after going for 57 yards on two catches Week 1 against the Bengals. Unfortunately, the Eagles were great against Cleveland's receivers in a Week 1 win. Browns wideouts only managed six receptions for 85 yards without a score with Brandon Weeden throwing the passes in his NFL debut against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Smith and the Ravens' passing game will be heads and shoulders better than Cleveland was last week against Philadelphia. That said, the Ravens go on the road in Philly and the Eagles do have a solid secondary. Smith is the big-play receiver for Joe Flacco and the Ravens as he hauled in a 52-yard catch last week. The last time Baltimore played a road game was in the playoffs last year at New England and Smith caught three passes for 82 yards and a TD in that one. Smith could sniff the end zone against the Eagles and should be considered a low-end No. 2 or high-end No. 3 Fantasy option for the Week 2 contest.

T. Smith starts fast, finishes slow
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith hauled in a 52-yard pass from quarterback Joe Flacco on the opening play of Week 1 against the Bengals but could not do much after that. He finished with just two catches for 57 yards in the 44-13 win. Smith was targeted three times, including twice in the end zone, and drew a pass interference call late in the game, which led to a Ray Rice 1-yard touchdown run. Smith, who finished third on Baltimore in receiving, also had a 13-yard run in the victory.
Analysis: Owners thought Smith was going to be in for a big performance Monday night after hauling in a long pass on the first play but Flacco had a hard time getting the ball to him after that. He continues to be the deep threat in the passing game for Baltimore but that can make him a hit-or-miss option at times in Fantasy. It looks as though the Ravens plan on airing the ball out more this season so Smith should be able to build upon his impressive rookie campaign. Heading into Week 2 against the Eagles, keep Smith active in the majority of Fantasy formats. Philadelphia allowed 111 passing yards in their season opener against Cleveland.

Smith's numbers impressive vs. Bengals
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith turned in one of his better performances of 2011 against Baltimore's Week 1 opponent -- Cincinnati. Smith hauled in six receptions for a career-best 165 yards and a touchdown in the first of the two team's meetings last season. The Bengals were ranked ninth in pass defense last season, allowing 212 passing yards per game. Cincinnati surrendered 21 total touchdowns through the air -- 16 by WRs -- and allowed an average of 19.4 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts last year.
Analysis: Smith hauled in two receptions for 33 yards in the team's second meeting last year and finished averaging 24.6 yards per catch against the division foe. While the 23-year-old was forced to miss some time during the preseason, he proved more than healthy in Baltimore's third preseason game as he finished with eight receptions for 103 yards. While Anquan Boldin is considered the club's possession WR, Smith is the team's big-play option and will look to improve on the 50 receptions for 841 yards and seven touchdowns he posted during his rookie campaign. While the Bengals do have a strong secondary, Smith should see plenty of passes thrown his way in Week 1. Consider the former University of Maryland standout a No. 2 Fantasy WR against Cincinnati.

Smith shines in third exhibition game
News: Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith was Joe Flacco's top target during Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars. Smith, who was held out of the team's second preseason game with a sprained ankle, made some big plays during his first game back. He was targeted 11 times, as he made eight catches for 103 yards, averaging 12.9 yards per reception. His longest gain of the night came in the third quarter when Flacco connected with him deep for a 32-yard gain. He has 146 yards receiving on 11 catches after two preseason games.
Analysis: Smith did a great job bouncing back from injury as he is working on taking his game to the next level. He is looking to duplicate his impressive numbers from his rookie campaign last year when he caught 50 passes for 841 yards and seven touchdowns. Smith is worth selecting as a low-end backup receiver beginning in Round 6 come Draft Day.

Smith should play Thursday
News: Comcast Sports Net reports that Ravens receiver Torrey Smith appeared to be much better Monday, not favoring his ankle the way he did Sunday coming out of cuts. He is expected to play Thursday vs. the Jaguars in the third preseason game. "Torrey brings something to the game that we might not have when he's not in there, but we've got a bunch of good receivers on this team," quarterback Joe Flacco said.
Analysis: Smith suffered a sprained ankle during the Ravens' preseason opener. He is expected to be fine for Week 1, which is the important thing. We view Smith as a quality receiver heading into the season, and he is worth drafting as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy receiver beginning in Round 6.

Smith working past injury
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith returned to the practice field Monday after missing last Friday's preseason game against Detroit with an ankle injury, according to the team's official website. Smith suffered a sprained ankle during the Ravens' preseason opener and was held out of practice last week. He finished with three receptions and 43 yards against Atlanta on Aug. 10 prior to departing the game early.
Analysis: Smith is looking to duplicate his impressive numbers from his rookie campaign last year when he amassed 50 receptions for 841 yards and seven touchdowns. The speedy downfield treat could overtake Anquan Boldin as quarterback Joe Flacco's primary target as he been impressive in training camp. The Ravens are not expected to rush him back to the field, but it would be encouraging if he was able to suit up for another preseason game. Fantasy owners should monitor his health status, but he is still worthy of being selected as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy receiver beginning in Round 6.

Smith sits with ankle injury
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith did not dress for Friday's preseason game against the Lions as he continues to nurse an ankle injury. Smith sprained his ankle during Baltimore's preseason opener against the Falcons and has not been able to practice over the last few days because of his injury.
Analysis: Smith's injury is not being considered serious at this point and there is no reason for the Ravens to rush him back on the field during the preseason. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward, albeit he is expected to be more than ready by the time the regular season rolls around. The 23-year-old hauled in 50 receptions for 841 yards and seven touchdowns during in rookie campaign and is once again expected to see a large role in Baltimore's offense this year. With an average draft position of 26.3, Smith is worth targeting with a mid-round pick as a low-end No.2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy wide receiver in most formats on Draft Day.

Smith dealing with ankle injury
News: Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith finished second on the team with 43 yards receiving on three catches during Thursdays preseason opener against the Falcons, before leaving the game with a sprained ankle. Coach John Harbaugh told the Baltimore Sun after the game that Smith might miss a few weeks during the preseason, though the injury is not considered serious.
Analysis: Smith derives much of his value from his ability to stretch the field, so even a minor, lingering ankle injury would hamper him heading into the season, so this is something worth watching. He had a strong rookie season, finishing with 50 catches for 841 yards and seven touchdowns, and is expected to build on that in his second year. We'll keep an eye on this injury, however it is not expected to be a problem so Fantasy owners should continue to target him in the middle rounds on Draft Day, as a high-end No. 3 receiver.

Pain-free Smith hoping to dominate
News: Torrey Smith set franchise rookie records in receptions (50), receiving yards (841) and touchdowns (seven) last year, but he feels like he could have done more. Smith's big season came while playing with a sports hernia, something he had surgery on once the season ended. "The biggest thing about the surgery is everything I was doing last year was painful," Smith said. "When it started getting cold it was terrible. I was fighting that battle every day. Now I'm able to run, and I'm getting out of my breaks and I'm not feeling any pain at all."
Analysis: Smith spent a lot of time during the early spring running routes with quarterback Joe Flacco, even when the team didn't have scheduled workouts at the facility. He went from being as green as you can be in his first season to becoming someone rookies are trying to learn from. He's impressed his coaches and could become a complete receiver if he can run precise routes beyond the nine-route. The offseason work has Smith feeling more comfortable. Heading into this season, Smith's looking to lead his teammates more instead of playing catch-up with the offense. "I'm a lot more confident," Smith said. "This time last year I could barely walk and chew gum at the same time." Many people believe Smith has the game to overtake Anquan Boldin as the top receiving option in Baltimore thanks to his size/speed combo. He's a good gamble with a draft pick in Round 6 or 7 as a borderline No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy wide receiver.

'Noticeable' improvement from Smith
News: The Baltimore Sun reports receiver Torrey Smith has displayed "noticeable" improvement during offseason workouts. According to the paper, Smith's route running is better and he's getting in and out of his breaks with more acceleration.

Smith will be ready for camp
News: After having double hernia surgery this offseason, Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith told the Baltimore Sun that he'll be ready for the start of training camp this summer. He's been dunking in charity basketball games and believes he'll have no restrictions when the team gets together in late July. As he told CBSSports.com in April, Smith is preaching consistency as a key to long-term success. "The biggest thing that helped my game is being consistent," said Smith. "I've got a lot of growing to do. This is going to be my fifth season playing receiver now, so I'm still learning each and every day. For me in order to take the next step, it's just being consistent, making the simple plays and just being consistent in my technique, being consistent catching the ball, everything. ... [T]o see the progress I was able to make in 20 weeks, I can only imagine what it's going to be like this offseason because I came right out there and I looked better than I did all of last year and I had surgery."
Analysis: For Smith to put up 50 catches for 841 yards and seven scores is pretty impressive considering he was a rookie and was playing hurt. Imagine what he can do with experience and healthy legs?! There's going to be a lot of hype around Smith in 2012 -- nearly every Fantasy owner is going to want him based on his potential. The right time to draft him is probably late Round 6 as a borderline No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy wide receiver.

Smith's goal: Dominate next year
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith said in an interview with CBSSports.com that his goal for 2012 is to gain at least 1,000 yards and score 10 touchdowns. He expects to improve on his productive rookie campaign in 2011. "Just being consistent," Smith said at teammate Anquan Boldin's charity event in Pahokee, Fla. "If I was consistent with my plays last year I would have had well over 1,000 yards. Thats my goal. I just have to be more focused, become a better technician and be more consistent. Everything else will take care of itself." Smith had 50 catches, 841 yards and seven touchdowns last year, and he's already working this offseason on improving. "I feel like I was able to have an OK season last year," Smith said. "Thats pretty much as raw as it gets for me. I feel like I have nowhere to go but up. Im far from a finished product. I just want to work this whole summer, try to get my technique down and go out and dominate next year."
Analysis: We like Smith a lot heading into 2012, and he has the chance to be a solid Fantasy contributor. He should be viewed as a No. 3 Fantasy option, but he could be a starter in all leagues if he continues to progress based on his rookie year. Plan on drafting Smith with a mid-round pick around Round 7, but don't be afraid to reach for him a round earlier based on his immense potential.

Smith had surgery, should be OK
News: Ravens second-year wide receiver Torrey Smith told the Baltimore Sun that he expects to be ready for the team's offseason minicamps after having sports hernia surgery after the season. Smith claims he played with a tear in his groin the entire season but got used to it. He's started rehab and has his sights set on improving on his 50-catch, 841-yard, seven-touchdown rookie campaign. "Joe [Flacco] and I are still getting better and I'm excited about what is going on here," said Smith. "I've got to do a lot of stretching, my hamstring has gotten tight. Last year, I couldn't open up and go get the ball as well as I'm used to. But my expectations are greater than they were a year ago. I'm ready to step up and play a bigger role."
The right time to draft him is probably Round 7 as a borderline No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy wide receiver. Anything earlier is a risk. Obviously if he flourishes in the summer then he'll move up our draft boards, but for now our focus is on making sure he's healthy heading into camp.

Smith scores in title game defeat
News: Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith caught a touchdown pass in the AFC Championship game loss at New England on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Ravens season is over with the Patriots going to the Super Bowl. Smith hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco in the third quarter of the game to give the Ravens the lead at that point. He finished with three catches for 82 yards and the score.
Analysis: Smith had a solid game in the AFC title game loss and should be able to come back strong next season. Smith finished the season with seven touchdown grabs and will enter next year with plenty of upside as a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy WR.

Smith limited in Divisional round
News: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith only caught one pass on Sunday in the AFC Divisional Playoff against the Texans. Smith caught one pass for 9 yards, but Baltimore managed to win the game and advance to the AFC Championship game against New England.
Analysis: Smith saw the return of Anquan Boldin on Sunday and Boldin scored a 10-yard touchdown in the contest. Smith has been held to just eight catches for 80 yards in his last three games combined. As far as Fantasy playoff leagues go, Smith should have low-end value entering the game against the Patriots. Smith finished the season with seven touchdown grabs and will enter next year with plenty of upside as a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy WR.

T. Smith kept in check in Ravens win
News: Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith was held in check on Sunday of Week 17 at Cincinnati with Ray Rice running wild for the Ravens. Baltimore beat the Bengals to grab a first-round bye in the playoffs, but did so with little from the passing game. Smith caught five passes in the game for 33 yards and finished second on the team. He did not score and had a long reception of 13 yards in the victory.
Analysis: Smith put the finishing touches on an outstanding rookie season on Sunday. He erupted onto the Fantasy scene Week 3 at St. Louis as he caught five passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns in that game, his first catches as a professional. He bested that performance when he went for 165 yards Week 11 against the Bengals. Smith became a reliable No. 2 option alongside Anquan Boldin for the Ravens and took over as the No. 1 option when Boldin was injured late in the year. Smith finished the season with seven touchdown grabs and will enter next year with plenty of upside as a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy WR. Smith is a solid start in Fantasy playoff leagues as well.

Smith looking for repeat performance
News: Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith heads into the Week 17 regular-season finale at Cincinnati looking to duplicate his performance from the first time he played the Bengals in his NFL career. The rookie receiver set his career-high in yards Week 11 against the Bengals as he caught six passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. In fact, Smith has not been over 100 yards in a game since.
Analysis: The Bengals, actually, are a pretty solid team at limiting the Fantasy production of opposing receivers. For some reason, they couldn't stop Smith the first time around. They should cap him a little better at home, but Smith has caught a touchdown pass in two of the last three games and has become a favorite of QB Joe Flacco since Anquan Boldin went down. Fantasy owners can consider Smith a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR for Week 17. He's worthy of a start in all leagues.

Smith does little with seven targets
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith entered Week 16 against the Browns as the team's No. 1 receiver after knee surgery sidelined Anquan Boldin. Unfortunately, taking on a bigger role didn't equate to bigger numbers for Smith, who was held to two catches for 38 yards. He was targeted seven times and drew a 60-yard pass interference call early in the game.
Analysis: The good news is that Smith was Joe Flacco's favorite target, which should be the case again Week 17 against the Bengals. The bad news is that Smith couldn't make any big plays and had a disappointing Fantasy day. Smith had six catches for 165 yards and one touchdown in Week 11 against Cincinnati. He likely won't have the same success, but Smith is still worth using as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option Week 17.

Smith down after hearing Boldin news
News: The Ravens announced Thursday that WR Anquan Boldin will miss the final two games of the regular season because of knee surgery. It's an impact that is weighing heavily on WR Torrey Smith, who will gain some targets in Boldin's absence heading into Week 16 against the Browns. "In the huddle, he's like a coach. He tells us everything, what we need to look out for. I'm going to miss that insight," Smith said.
Analysis: Boldin's absence is definitely going to impact Smith. Now teams will focus on stopping Smith, who is the de facto No. 1 receiver with Boldin out. That likely means Smith will see a lot of shutdown corner Joe Haden in Week 16. The first time Smith faced Cleveland, the Browns bottled him up for one catch for 32 yards in Week 13. WRs average 13.7 Fantasy points per week against the Browns, which is the lowest average in the NFL. WRs have totaled three touchdowns against Cleveland the last two games. The Ravens totaled nearly 300 rushing yards in Week 13 against Cleveland and could take a similar offensive strategy Week 16, especially since the passing game lost a key component. Smith has become a go-to receiver for QB Joe Flacco, but he is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 16.

Smith aims for TD in third straight
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith is set to face the Browns for the second time this season in Week 16. The first time Smith faced Cleveland, the Browns bottled him up for one catch for 32 yards in Week 13. WRs average 13.7 Fantasy points per week against the Browns, which is the lowest average in the NFL. WRs have totaled three touchdowns against Cleveland the last two games.
Analysis: The first time the Ravens faced the Browns they ran for nearly 300 yards. They could take the same strategy into Week 16, which wouldn't bode well for Smith. The rookie has seven touchdowns and has scored in two straight games. He has become a go-to receiver for QB Joe Flacco. Despite the tough matchup, consider Smith a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 16.

T. Smith scores in second straight
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith had a productive performance in Week 15 against the Chargers. He caught six passes for 77 yards with a touchdown in the 34-14 loss. His seventh score of the year -- and his second in as many games -- came in the fourth quarter when QB Joe Flacco found him from 36 yards out. It was his long reception of the contest and he averaged 12.8 yards per grab. Smith, who was targeted seven times, led Baltimore in receiving in the defeat.
Analysis: Smith posted his most yardage since Week 11 on Sunday and caught nearly every pass thrown his way. He has developed a knack for finding the end zone in his rookie campaign and has the blazing speed to be a viable option in Fantasy for years to come. Hopefully he can continue to be a fire starter for the Ravens down the stretch so keep an eye on his progress. With the Browns up next on the schedule, consider Smith as no worse than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 16. When he faced the division foe earlier in the year, he caught one pass for 32 yards.

Smith has tough task Sunday
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith scored his sixth touchdown of the year last weekend and will look to add to that total in Week 15 versus San Diego. The Chargers also boast a top-five defense against the pass. They are allowing 211 receiving yards per game, but have been burned for 22 touchdowns through the air. Opposing receivers are averaging 19.31 Fantasy points per contest against the Chargers this season.
Analysis: Smith spreads the field for the Ravens, but they are still more of a passing team. In terms of Fantasy value, Smith is still very inconsistent. Three of his six scores came in one outing, so his numbers can be a bit deceiving. Fantasy owners that have been hit with the injury bug late in the year should view Smith as a No. 4 WR or flex option for Week 15. With a tough matchup and his inconsistent ways, banking on Smith post great numbers are not too smart.

Smith nets sixth TD Week 14
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith averaged just 9.6 yards per catch Week 14 against the Colts, but he still made an impact in a 24-10 win. Smith, who came into the game averaging 20.2 yards per catch, hauled in an 8-yard touchdown in the first quarter -- his sixth receiving touchdown of the season. Smith finished with five catches for 48 yards, with his longest reception going 17 yards. He had a chance for two more touchdowns, but he bobbled a 54-yard touchdown before dropping the pass and then had Dennis Pitta steal a 7-yard touchdown catch from him in the third quarter. Smith was targeted a team-high nine times Week 14. He also had a 16-yard rush.
Analysis: Smith had all of three catches for 55 yards in his previous two games, which forced Fantasy owners to stick him on the bench. Smith could have had a really good game Week 14 had a few bad bounces gone his way, but he ended up having just an above average Fantasy performance. The Ravens like using Smith as a deep-play threat, but if he doesn't haul in the long pass, then he usually has just moderate numbers. Consider Smith a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 15 against the Chargers.

Smith averaging 20.2 yards per catch
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith is averaging 20.2 yards per catch heading into Week 14 against the Colts, who are allowing WRs to average 14.1 yards per catch in 2011. Indianapolis is also allowing 23.5 Fantasy points per week to receivers, which is seventh-highest average in the NFL. WRs have totaled 14 touchdowns against the Colts this season.
Analysis: Smith has had an up-and-down rookie season since his breakout performance in Week 3 against the Rams. He is definitely the Ravens' big-play threat, but if Smith doesn't haul in a long catch or catch a touchdown, then his stat lines are usually disappointing. The Ravens are a balanced offense, so it's hard to predict what to expect from Smith on a weekly basis. This is a favorable matchup, but Smith is more of a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 14.

Smith has one long grab
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith was slowed down in the Ravens Week 13 25-20 victory over Cleveland. Smith grabbed just one ball for 32 yards in the win, his second straight disappointing performance. He tied for the team lead in targets with four, but only brought in the one ball. In Week 12, he had just two catches for 23 yards.
Analysis: Smith has been feast or famine all year long, which is the risk you take on when you start a big-play receiver in Fantasy. If he had connected on one or two other long plays, it could have been a solid game for Smith, but in the cold, rainy conditions, QB Joe Flacco struggled with his accuracy. The Ravens take on Indianapolis in Week 14, and Smith could be a good Fantasy play. The Colts allow the fourth most points per game to opposing Fantasy WRs, so its a good matchup for Smith. However, the Colts struggle even worse against the run, so the Ravens may lean on the running game again and limit Flaccos responsibilities. Consider Smith a No. 3 receiver for Week 14.

Smith likely to be slowed
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith has emerged as one of the fastest men in the NFL as a rookie, as his 19.8 yards per catch average is good for third in the NFL among players with at least 10 receptions. He has receptions of at least 20 yards in six of the Ravens last nine games, and has averaged 68 yards per game since bursting on the scene with his three touchdown performance in Week 3. However he faces the NFLs toughest defense against opposing WRs in Week 13, as the Ravens head to Cleveland to take on the Browns.
Analysis: The Browns allow just under 108 yards per game to WRs, best in the league, and have allowed just four touchdown receptions. They did have their second worst day of the season in Week 12, allowing 176 yards to Bengals receivers, however they were kept out of the endzone. The Browns allow just 12 Fantasy points per game to opposing WRs. Smith relies on the home run to generate much of his value, as he doesnt receive a large number of targets in the Ravens offense. If he doesnt score, its hard for him to produce Fantasy value. The Ravens arent likely to test the Browns passing defense too much, content to rely on the running game, so consider Smith to be a low-end No. 3 receiver for Week 13.

Smith's hot streak doused
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith garnered two receptions for 23 yards during the Ravens' 16-6 win over San Francisco in Week 12 on Thursday night. Smith, who collected only three targets from QB Joe Flacco, finished with his lowest totals since Week 4 against the Jets when he managed just one catch for one yard. Smith's longest reception versus the 49ers went for only 12 yards
Analysis: Smith was coming off a season-high 165 receiving yards in his last outing, but couldn't carry over that momentum on Thursday. The talented rookie isn't going to turn in those types of performances every week, but he remains a solid option downfield for the Ravens. Smith, who has five touchdowns, has supplanted Lee Evans as the secondary target to Anquan Boldin. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR at Cleveland in Week 13.

Smith igniting a trend?
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith has certainly made the most of his opportunities this season. The Ravens rookie has emerged as a solid option in the passing game, collecting 29 receptions for 590 yards and five touchdowns this season. His performances have been a tad inconsistent, but when Smith posts at least five catches in a game (three times), he has reached the end zone. Baltimore faces San Francisco in Week 12 on Thursday.
Analysis: The return of fellow WR Lee Evans from injury did little to rattle Smith during the Ravens' victory over Cincinnati in Week 11. Smith paced the team with 165 yards and a touchdown on six receptions last Sunday, and represents Baltimore's top downfield threat as a result of his blazing speed. The 49ers are yielding an average of 22.2 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts. Consider Smith a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 12.

T. Smith goes off for Ravens
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith had another huge performance on Sunday of Week 11 at home in a win over Cincinnati. Smith scored a touchdown on a 38-yard pass from QB Joe Flacco in the fourth quarter. Smith also led the Ravens with six catches for 165 yards and the TD. Smith led all receivers in the game, despite Jerome Simpson going for 152 yards for the Bengals. Smith was targeted seven times by Flacco in the contest.
Analysis: Smith recorded a new career high in receiving yards as he topped the 100-yard mark for the second time this season. He also set the Ravens' single-season rookie receiving record with 590 yards. Smith had three touchdowns and 152 yards Week 3 at St. Louis. Smith could be in line for another big performance Week 12 against San Francisco. The 49ers have been unstoppable on defense against the run, but haven't been quite as sharp against the pass this season. In fact, San Francisco had not allowed a rushing touchdown entering Week 11, so if the Ravens hope to score, it will be through the air. Smith should have a good opportunity to score a touchdown in the Week 12 game, so Fantasy owners should consider him a decent No. 2 Fantasy WR option.

T. Smith looking to score Week 11
News: Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith continues to be the second option in the passing game for QB Joe Flacco entering Week 11 against Cincinnati. Smith hauled in three passes for 28 yards last week at Seattle, but caught five passes for 71 yards and a touchdown the week prior at Pittsburgh. While the Bengals have only allowed six wide receiver touchdowns all season, three of those have come in the last two games against Tennessee and Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Smith had that one five-catch, 152-yard, three-touchdown game in Week 3 at St. Louis. Otherwise, the rookie has just one TD catch and hasn't topped 84 yards in a game. Smith has definite Fantasy value heading into Week 11 against the Bengals, but he's more of a low-end bye-week replacement option. Consider him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy receiver, at best, for Sunday's game.

Smith almost makes big plays
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith gained 16 yards on an end around as he got into the offense early in Week 10 against the Seahawks. That was his longest play of the day, as he couldn't haul in some deep passes from QB Joe Flacco on the day. Flacco targeted Smith eight times on the day, but he caught just three passes for 28 yards. The Ravens would end up losing the contest, 22-17.
Analysis: Smith spreads the field for the Ravens, but there are times when the ball is just out of his reach. As Baltimore's offense continues to grow, so will Smith. The rookie is doing enough this year to warrant some Fantasy attention and should be viewed as a No. 4 or flex option for next week. The Ravens face the Bengals in Week 11, a team allowing 217.4 passing yards per contest. In nine games they've given up just nine passing touchdowns.

Smith among top rookies
News: Halfway through the season, Baltimore rookie WR Torrey Smith is second with four touchdown receptions among all rookies. He caught the game-winning score last weekend against Pittsburgh. In Week 10, the Ravens face the Seahawks a team that has been allowing 242.4 passing yards per contest and given up 10 passing touchdowns in eight games. Opposing team's receivers are averaging 20.75 Fantasy points per game against the Seahawks this year.
Analysis: Smith is becoming a nice complementary receiver to Anquan Boldin and has made some big plays so far in his rookie campaign. Even though QB Joe Flacco hasn't been the most consistent signal caller this year, he's found Smith enough to make him a viable Fantasy option. Owners should consider Smith a low-end No. 3 or high-end No. 4 WR option for Week 10.

Smith ignites Ravens win
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith had a few passes just out of his grasp on Sunday against the Steelers, but hauled in a 26-yard reception with seconds left in the game to give the Ravens the 23-20 win. "Torrey was refined by the fire," coach John Harbaugh told FoxSports.com after the game. "You walk through the fire and come out untouched. You get purified by it, and that's what he does." Smith was targeted nine times by QB Joe Flacco, catching five passes for 71 yards. "After I dropped those couple of balls, I was down. My teammates were like: 'You're going to make a big one'," Smith said.
Analysis: Smith didn't record a catch in the first meeting with the Steelers this season, so he made up for it in Week 9. Smith stretches the field for the Ravens and is slowly developing into a solid wingman for Anquan Boldin. The Ravens face the Seahawks in Week 10, a team that has been giving up 242.2 passing yards per contest this season. Seattle has also been burned for 10 passing touchdowns. Fantasy owners should consider Smith a viable WR option for next Sunday.

Smith looking to catch fire
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith has gone four games with no more than three receptions, something he's looking to change in Week 9 against Pittsburgh. Smith didn't record a catch in the first meeting with the Steelers this season. The Steelers have been allowing a league best 171.6 passing yards per contest and 10 touchdowns through the air. That translates into just 12.75 Fantasy points per game to opposing team's receivers.
Analysis: This Sunday won't be an easy task for Smith, but if he can contribute against the stingy Pittsburgh defense Fantasy owners will be very pleased. His quarterback, Joe Flacco, has struggled at times this season, which directly affects Smith's Fantasy value. Smith stretches the field for the Ravens, but is not yet a reliable Fantasy WR option. Owners should consider Smith a No. 4 WR or flex option this weekend.

Smith contributes late
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith had three catches for 57 yards during the Ravens 30-27 victory over Arizona in Week 8 on Sunday. It was the fourth consecutive game Smith did not record more than three receptions as he posted an average of 19 yards per catch. Smith finished with nine targets from QB Joe Flacco, most of them in the second half.
Analysis: Smith was targeted deep downfield and in the end zone, but could not connect with Flacco until late in the fourth quarter. With his a 36-yard reception, the rookie extended his streak of consecutive outings with a catch of 20-plus yards to three games. Theres no denying Smiths big-play ability but his struggles reaching the end zone consistently coupled with Flaccos woes this season, keeps him an unreliable option. Consider him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 9 at Pittsburgh.

Smith confident against defense
News: Despite managing 112 passing yards in its last game against Jacksonville on Monday, Baltimore WR Torrey Smith said he is hoping Arizona replicates the press coverage the Jaguars utilized. The Ravens host the Cardinals in Week 8. "We can beat press," said Smith, who had three catches last week. "That opens our running lanes for our backs. Teams aren't going to be able to hold up playing press man the entire game."
Analysis: Smith hasn't hauled in many passes during his rookie season, but he is certainly making the catches count for plenty of yards. The rookie out of Maryland has posted a stellar average of 22.4 yards per reception, including an 84-yard performance in Week 6 against Houston. The Cardinals have been weak against the pass this year and are allowing an average of 26.6 Fantasy points per game this season. In addition, Arizona has yielded six receiving touchdowns, two last week against Pittsburgh. Consider Smith a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8.

T. Smith held quiet vs. Jaguars
News: After posting 84 yards receiving his last time out, Ravens WR Torrey Smith did not have the same success in Week 7 against the Jaguars. He was held to 32 yards on three catches in the 12-7 loss. He was targeted five times by QB Joe Flacco and had a long reception of 20 yards. Smith appeared to be shaken up late in the game but told the Carroll County Times that he just had the wind knocked out of him.
Analysis: Smith was targeted for some big passes on Monday night but was unable to come up with any of them. While his deep threat earned a few pass interference penalties, that doesn't help out his Fantasy value. He has become a firestarter for the Ravens in the absence of Lee Evans and should continue to see deep balls thrown his way. He could be able to break one next week against the Cardinals so consider Smith as no worse than a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8.

T. Smith seeks to catch fire again
News: Baltimore WR Torrey Smith will look to maintain the offensive momentum he generated last Sunday during the Ravens' Week 7 matchup against lowly Jacksonville. Smith registered 84 receiving yards -- his second-highest total of the season -- on three catches during a victory over Houston. The rookie 22-year-old has shown he can be a deep threat and hauled in a pass of 51 yards for QB Joe Flacco against the Texans. "Torrey is improving each week on his different routes," Flacco told the Carroll County Times. "Whether it's coming across the middle or starting to run comebacks, they look better. The more comfortable they get with what they're doing in this offense, the more they can focus on getting open and the little nuances of those routes, how to get open, not just run them to run them."
Analysis: Smith was able to rebound from his meager one-catch performance against the Jets in Week 4 and recorded a catch of at least 50 yards for the second time this season. He posted a 74-yard touchdown in Week 3. The Ravens still have a crowd in their receiving corps, but Smith could break free against a Jaguars defense which is permitting an average of 17 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts. They have also surrendered five receiving scores this year. Consider Smith a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 7.

T. Smith gets back on track in Week 6
News: After catching just one pass for 1 yard in his last game, Ravens WR Torrey Smith had a bounce-back performance in Week 6 against the Texans. He gained 84 yards on three catches in the 29-14 win. He had a long reception of 51 and averaged 28 yards per grab. Smith was targeted five times by QB Joe Flacco in the victory.
Analysis: Smith showed his home-run ability on Sunday as he came up with some big plays in the passing game. While he did not find the end zone, he should be able to break a couple going forward as long as Flacco continues to throw him the deep ball. While his role will likely lessen once Lee Evans returns from injury, the 22-year-old has a very bright future in Fantasy and will be a firestarter for the Ravens for years to come. Heading into Week 7 against the Jaguars, consider Smith as more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR.

Ravens to count heavily on Smith?
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith is expected to start Week 6 against the Ravens with Lee Evans still hobbled by an ankle injury. On Friday, coach John Harbaugh talked about how Smith might also benefit in Week 6 since he feels the Texans run a lot of man-to-man coverage in their new 3-4 scheme under first-year coordinator Wade Phillips. "No matter who you are playing, the speed and ability to separate downfield is really important. Yeah, I think that gives him a chance, hopefully in any game to make some plays," Harbaugh said of Smith. "Thats really going to be important for us to do that.
Analysis: The Ravens are coming off a bye, and Smith has had a few weeks to stew about his disappointing Week 4 performance following his breakout game in Week 3. Houston ranks sixth in the league against the pass, giving up over 208 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 24 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. The fact Harbaugh is talking about Smith being able to take advantage of one-on-one coverage is encouraging for his Week 6 outlook. Still, Smith is at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.

Another slow week for Smith?
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith caught just one pass for 1 yard his last time out and could be in for another slow performance in Week 6 against the Texans. Houston ranks sixth in the league against the pass, giving up over 208 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 24 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts.
Analysis: Smith set the Fantasy world on fire in Week 3 but was very unimpressive in his last game. Hopefully the bye week gave him an opportunity to get more acclimated to the offense in Baltimore so keep an eye on his progress going forward. The 22-year-old became somewhat of a firestarter in his debut, but he still has a ways to go before becoming a well-rounded wideout. Heading into Week 6 against the Texans, consider Smith as more of low-end No. 3/high-end No. 4 Fantasy WR.

Smith not as impressive in Week 4
News: After catching five passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns in his NFL debut, Ravens WR Torrey Smith was not nearly as impressive in Week 4 against the Jets. He caught just one pass for 1 yard in the 34-17 win. He was targeted six times by Joe Flacco in the victory.
Analysis: Smith was targeted on a few deep balls on Sunday night but was unable to come up with any of them. Like most rookies, he cannot be judge on one breakout performance, rather he needs to prove his consistency before becoming a viable option in Fantasy. The 22-year-old became somewhat of a firestarter in his debut, but he still has a ways to go before becoming a well-rounded wideout. Keep him reserved next week, as the Ravens are on a bye, and consider getting Smith active in deeper leagues for Week 6 against the Texans.

WR Smith to start for Ravens
News: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Friday that WR Torrey Smith will start again Week 4 against the Jets with Lee Evans still nursing an ankle injury. After an impressive NFL debut in which he caught five passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns, Smith will face off against a tough pass defense in Week 4. New York enters Sunday night ranked sixth in the league against the pass, giving up just under 189 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 17 Fantasy points per week to opposing wideouts.
Analysis: It's great that Smith is going to remain in the starting lineup, but he will likely have Darrelle Revis or Antonio Cormartie covering him on Sunday, which will likely limit his effectiveness. The rookie has some blazing speed and should continue to be a big part of the offense so keep an eye on how he does. Consider the former Maryland standout as more of a No. 4 WR or flex option for Week 4, but Smith could end up becoming a solid Fantasy option by the end of the year.

Smith shines in Week 3
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith turned in a huge performance during Week 3 against the Rams. Smith, who had yet to catch a pass this season entering the contest, finished with five receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns during the 37-7 victory. Smith's first NFL catch went for a 74-yard touchdown on Baltimore's second offense play from scrimmage. In fact his second and third receptions also went for scores, including a 41-yarder in the first quarter. His third touchdown reception also came in the first, as he hauled in a 18-yard pass over the head of CB Justin King. Smith caught two more passes in the contest, but did leave the game in the fourth quarter due to hamstring cramps. However, he said after the game he just cramped up and is "fine".
Analysis: Smith turned in a huge day on Sunday and certainly made his presence felt in his first game as a starter. His first three catches all went for scores and he showed off his great speed on all three of his scores. There is no doubt he brings an element of speed to the Ravens' offense and could find himself with a much larger role in the weeks to come, even when Lee Evans gets healthy. While he did say he was fine after the game -- despite leaving with cramps -- he could wind up on the injury report this week so Fantasy owners should continue and monitor his status moving forward. Smith is only owned in 2 percent of all CBSSports.com standard leagues, but that number is sure to rise heading into Week 4.

Smith leaves with hamstring injury
News: Ravens WR Torrey Smith left Week 3 against the Rams with an apparent hamstring injury. Smith appeared to get hurt sometime in the first half, but played through it for most of the game. However, he seemed to aggravate his hamstring again in the fourth quarter and had to be helped on the field with the help of team trainers. The rookie turned in a huge performance prior to getting injured, finishing with five receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
Analysis: Smith turned in a huge day on Sunday, as each of his first three catches went for a touchdowns. He showed off his great speed on all three of his scores and could find himself with a much larger role in the Ravens' offense moving forward. Baltimore announced he has a hamstring injury, but has yet to announce the severity of it. Stay tuned for more details as they become available, although it doesn't appear to be anything serious. Smith is only owned in 2 percent of all CBSSports.com standard leagues, but that number is sure to rise heading into Week 4.

Ravens down to four receivers
News: WR Lee Evans (ankle) will not play Sunday against St. Louis, the team announced. Evans has not practiced this week. With Evans out, that leaves four WRs available: Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, LaQuan Williams and Tandon Doss.
Analysis: We all know where Boldin stands on the pecking order, but the rest of the targets at receiver remains up for grabs in Week 3. Smith, Doss and Wlliams, however, have no career catches, so to say the Ravens are going to be a little green at the position is an understatement. Look to other Fantasy options ahead of Smith, Doss and Wlliams. They are merely desperation Fantasy options going up against the league's third best pass defense (172 ypg).

Ravens want Smith to contribute
News: Ravens rookie receiver Torrey Smith has gotten game reps to begin the season, but he has yet to record a catch through two games. Hes out there to contribute," coach John Harbaugh said Monday. "Joe [Flacco] hasnt gotten to him in read-progression for whatever reason. Every play is a little bit different. Its not like were not throwing him the ball, because we dont think he is ready. If we didnt think he was ready to catch the ball and run with it, we certainly wouldnt put him on the field. I want to see him make catches as much as anybody, especially downfield, because thats what we brought him here to do. We just havent gotten to him yet with it. Thats something thats really important; we need to do that. We need to push the ball up the field."
Analysis: Clearly, the Ravens want Smith to stretch the field and he might get the opportunity if WR Lee Evans' ankle injury continues to be a problem. It seems Smith still needs to learn the offense, so keep him reserved in Fantasy until further notice. He has low-end appeal to begin with until his breakout run.

Rookie WR Smith has cramps
News: Ravens rookie WR Torrey Smith left Thursday's game against Atlanta with cramps. Before exiting, Smith caught two passes for 12 yards.
Analysis: Smith is the No. 3 WR at best for the Ravens this year behind Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans. He is not worth drafting in the majority of leagues. In rookie-only formats, Smith is worth drafting with a second- or third-round pick.

Coaches defending rookie Smith
News: The Ravens coaching staff is sticking up for rookie WR Torrey Smith, who has had some struggles during the preseason. Coach John Harbaugh told the media to, Just lay off the kid and let him develop and become the player that hes going to be. Even offensive coordinator Cam Cameron is defending the second-round pick, who had two drops during Thursday's preseason game against the Redskins. It is a process for guys, Cameron said. I know we all want things to be instant, we want guys to just jump right out of the blocks and dominate in the National Football League and just go from there. Its easier said than done. Hes a great practice player, works extremely hard. Over the years, guys that approach things the way hes approaching the game get better [and] improve, and thats our expectation for him -- just to get better and to improve. He and [quarterback] Joe [Flacco] are spending some extra time together. Hes got a bright, bright future, and sometimes it just takes a couple of games under your belt to get comfortable.
Analysis: Smith has just two catches for 8 yards in the preseason, which is why the critics have been attacking the rookie receiver. But receiver is one of the toughest positions to break through at on the NFL level, which is why Baltimore traded for Lee Evans. Clearly, the team is high on Smith, but he is going to have to fight for his targets in 2011 with Anquan Boldin and Evans being the top two receivers. Leave Smith more for rookie-only and dynasty drafts.

Smith loses starting spot
News: According to ESPN, the Bills have traded WR Lee Evans to the Ravens. Baltimore needed help at the WR position after losing Derrick Mason as a free agent, and the Bills have been shopping Evans in a trade. The move makes sense for both sides, and Evans will now replace rookie Torrey Smith as a starter.
Analysis: We liked the upside for Smith prior to this trade, but now he loses value. He's still worth drafting in deep leagues with a late-round flier, but his main value will lie in keeper and dynasty leagues with a late-round pick. In rookie-only formats, plan on drafting Smith in the third round.

Smith OK with NFL debut
News: Ravens rookie WR Torrey Smith was held without a catch Thursday night against Philadelphia in his first preseason game. But following the game he watched the film and wasn't upset, according to his Twitter account. "I'm not disappointed at all just mad at that one play ... can't wait to improve and make plays when my number is called," Smith said via Twitter.
Analysis: Smith has the chance to play well for the Ravens this year, and he could compete for a starting spot opposite Anquan Boldin. Consider Smith a late-round flier in deep leagues, and he's worth drafting with a late-round selection in all keeper/dynasty leagues. In rookie-only formats plan on taking Smith with a second-round pick.

Ravens sign rookie WR Smith
News: Rookie WR Torrey Smith has agreed to terms with the Ravens, reports ProFootballTalk.com. Smith, Baltimore's second round draft pick in 2011, predicted he would have his contract done early and was correct. Smith was the 58th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Analysis: Smith has the speed to stretch the field for Baltimore, and he may have a larger role than expected if veteran Derek Mason is not back with the team. I feel like I best be ready if they need me to play that role," Smith told reporters Tuesday. "Im going to do it to the best of my ability. Obviously, if they put me in that position, they put me there for a reason. I just have to go out there and prove my worth. Obviously, I am not Derrick. I am not a veteran. I am not the leading receiver in Ravens history, so it is a start, but I just have to work hard. He is not as polished in route-running as the team would like, and he had limited experience in the run-oriented Maryland system, though his speed allowed him to make plays when given the chance. Smith remains an intrigue because he may be a starting rookie WR like A.J. Green and Julio Jones, but we see him as a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a second-round choice in rookie-only drafts.

Smith ready to work hard
News: Ravens rookie WR Torrey Smith is working out the details of his contract with the team, but in the meantime he is eager to hit the ground running once he is in training camp. Basically, obviously, I was able to get a hold of a playbook thanks to Anquan [Boldin]," Smith told reporters Tuesday. "I was able to look at that and understand it. It was real similar to [Maryland] coach [Ralph] Friedgens with basically just different words. I understand the offense itself, so that was really all I could do." Smith might have to step up sooner than expected as Baltimore might not bring back WR Derrick Mason. I feel like I best be ready if they need me to play that role," Smith said.
Analysis: Smith has the speed to stretch the field for Baltimore and could end up starting opposite Boldin, if Baltimore doesn't spend money on veteran receivers. It's good that Baltimore's offense is close to that of what Smith experienced in college. But receiver is one of the toughest positions to break in at as a rookie, and the lockout didn't help Smith's cause. He is clearly one of the more intriguing rookie receivers just because he has a chance to start in 2011. We like him late in deeper seasonal leagues and in all leagues that reward special-teams play, and we think he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a second-round choice in rookie-only drafts.

Harbaugh fond of Smith
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he is excited to work with rookie WR Torrey Smith, who the Ravens drafted in Round 2 from Maryland. Harbaugh said that Smith has got to earn his stripes and earn his spot," but he will play a role for Baltimore this year. Im very excited that hes going to be on our team, he said. I think hes going to be a really good football player.
Analysis: Smith has the chance to be the No. 3 WR for the Ravens behind Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason. As a speedster who runs a 4.4 40-yard dash, Smith will provide a deep threat in Baltimore, and he should work well with QB Joe Flacco. We like him late in deeper leagues and in all leagues that reward special-teams play, and we think he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a second-round choice in rookie-only drafts.

News: Ravens rookie WR Torrey Smith said Tuesday that he continues to workout with QB Joe Flacco even though he has yet to sign an NFL contract due to the lockout. The Ravens drafted Smith out of the University of Maryland in the second round of the NFL draft.

Smith already looking at playbook
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens rookie WR Torrey Smith is excited to be in Baltimore. And he already has a playbook thanks to Anquan Boldin, but he wants a more hands-on education. I compare it to someone giving you a science book, he said. You can read all day, but it doesnt mean too much. You dont actually get it until you do it yourself. Im going to need reps to get it down. Smith, who caught 152 passes for 2,218 yards and 19 touchdowns in his three years in Maryland, said the offense is somewhat similar to what he ran in college. They drafted me for a reason, he said. So its up for me to prove that they made the right choice.
Analysis: Smith has the chance to be the No. 3 WR for the Ravens behind Boldin and Derrick Mason. As a speedster who runs a 4.4 40-yard dash, Smith will provide a deep threat in Baltimore, and he should work well with QB Joe Flacco. GM: Smith has chance to start
News: Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said that second-round pick WR Torrey Smith will have the chance to start in Week 1. Smith will also work as a deep threat option for QB Joe Flacco, something they tried to have with Donte Stallworth last year but it didn't work out. "He's coming in to compete and be a starting wide receiver for us," Newsome said according to the Carroll County News. "The vertical speed he brings to us will be a big asset. Joe is a very good deep thrower. Torrey also has the ability to be a returner. We can utilize him there, but he's competing to be a starting wide receiver."
Analysis: With Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason on the roster, the only way Smith will start is if one of those guys is hurt or if the Ravens open in a three-receiver set. If Smith has a dazzling camp and picks up the offense, that three-receiver formation will probably be a consistent component of the Ravens' offense. We like him late in deeper leagues and in all leagues that reward special-teams play, and we think he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a second-round choice in rookie-only drafts.

Smith lands in Baltimore
News: The Ravens have taken wide receiver Torrey Smith of the University of Maryland in the second round of the NFL draft. In 38 games at Maryland, Smith finished third in school history with 152 catches and second in receiving yards with 2,215. Additionally, his 2,983 yards as a kick returner set the ACC record.
Analysis: Smith has good speed and explosiveness, so he will give the Ravens a dynamic they never quite got with Donte Stallworth or T.J. Houshmandzadeh last season (both vets are free agents this offseason). His route running and blocking need work, but he should have a shot at beginning the season as the Ravens' No. 3 receiver and kickoff returner. We like him late in deeper leagues and leagues that reward special-teams play, and we think he's worth a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and a second-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
