Boldin now No. 1 option?

News: USA Today reports 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree tore his Achilles tendon on Tuesday and will undergo surgery. It is not known if he will try to play this season. The injury now elevates Anquan Boldin to No. 1 on the depth chart. Boldin was traded to the 49ers this offseason from the Ravens.
Analysis: Boldin, at this point in his career, was suited more for a No. 2 receiver role than a No. 1 option. Last year, as the No. 1 option for the Ravens, he caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season, but he stepped up in the playoffs with 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns. Still, this injury helps his Fantasy value, and Boldin now has the potential to be a No. 3 Fantasy receiver worth a mid-round pick.

Boldin excited to join 49ers

News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, new 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin said he's excited about his trade from Baltimore to San Francisco. "I embrace change," Boldin said. "For me, I think it’s a great opportunity. I feel like the job that I was brought to Baltimore to do, I accomplished that. I feel good in that aspect. It’s on to another challenge in life." He's also excited about working with Colin Kaepernick. "You look at Kaepernick, the sky’s the limit for him," Boldin said. "He’s a very talented quarterback. I hope we all can get better." He said he's never played with a quarterback as athletic as Kaepernick. "I think the thing that gets overlooked with him is that he’s a quarterback," Boldin added. "People look at his athletic ability, but they underestimate how strong of an arm that he has and how intelligent that he is as a quarterback. That’s what I’m excited about."
Analysis: Boldin also said there will be "an adjustment period" in getting used to Kaepernick, but he's been through a lot of quarterback changes in his career, including the transition from Kurt Warner in Arizona to Joe Flacco in Baltimore. We like this move for Boldin, but he remains just a reserve Fantasy option this season worth a late-round pick. In three seasons with the Ravens, Boldin averaged 62 catches for 881.7 yards per year with 14 total touchdowns (four in 2012). He went on a tear in the 2012 postseason, ripping opponents (including the Niners) for four more scores over 22 catches for 380 yards. He could improve to a No. 3 option as the year goes on, but Boldin is a steady option to have on your bench with upside.

Ravens will miss Boldin

News: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meeting in Phoenix on Tuesday that the team really wanted to keep receiver Anquan Boldin, but "when it came down to it, the numbers didn’t work for either (side)." So Harbaugh called his brother, Jim, with the 49ers to work out a trade. “It was me to my brother," John Harbaugh said. "I called him up and just said, ‘Would you be interested?’ He said, ‘Heck yeah." John Harbaugh said the 49ers, who gave up a sixth-round pick for Boldin, got a real asset. "Anquan is a great player, there’s just no denying it," John Harbaugh said. "I know they got a great player, they got a great leader, they got a guy that will be a perfect fit in their offense in a lot of ways, and they realized that right away. ... He’s just a strong receiver. He’s a guy that’s reliable, he’s dependable. He’s going to be there every game, you know he’s going to be at every practice. He’s very solid. He’s a playmaker.”
Analysis:  In three seasons with the Ravens, Boldin averaged 62 catches for 881.7 yards per year with 14 total touchdowns (four in 2012). He went on a tear in the 2012 postseason, ripping opponents (including the Niners) for four more scores over 22 catches for 380 yards. Consider Boldin a No. 3 Fantasy receiver, and he's worth drafting with a mid-round pick.

Niners trade for WR Boldin

News: The Ravens have traded receiver Anquan Boldin to the 49ers in exchange for a sixth-round pick. In three seasons with the Ravens Boldin averaged 62 catches for 881.7 yards per year with 14 total touchdowns (four in 2012). He went on a tear in the 2012 postseason, ripping opponents (including the Niners) for four more scores over 22 catches for 380 yards. Boldin's contract will remain unchanged, ProFootballTalk.com reports.
Analysis: Boldin is a terrific find for the Niners, who will deepen the receiving talent on the roster. After Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis, the next best receiver on the team last year was Mario Manningham, who tore his ACL late in 2012 after catching 42 passes for 449 yards. Boldin should contribute about as much as he did in his three years with the Ravens as a high-catch, modest-yardage possession-type receiver. He's a nice late-round pick in standard drafts as a reserve Fantasy receiver and potentially a low-end No. 3 choice in the deepest of PPR formats.

Boldin could be on his way out

News: The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens could release wide receiver Anquan Boldin if he does not take a pay-cut. Boldin told ESPN that he expects to play out his current contract. In fact, he also told the USA Today that he has no plans to take a pay-cut to remain with the Ravens. "When I signed with the Ravens, I signed for four years," Boldin said. "The contract that I signed was the contract that I intended to play out."
Analysis: It appears as if Boldin may be squeezed out of Baltimore after making his presence felt in the postseason during the Ravens' Super Bowl run. He has also threatened to retire if he gets cut, so we'll continue to keep an eye on his status leading up to the start of the free agency period. After catching 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season, Boldin hauled in 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs, as he averaged 17.3 yards per reception. At this point, we expect Boldin to play next season, just possibly for a different team. He should be considered a low-end No. 3 receiver candidate worth a late-round pick depending on his situation.

Boldin: I'll retire if cut

News: NBC Sports reports that Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin said he will retire if the team cuts him this offseason as a salary-cap move. He later told The Jim Rome Show on CBS Sports Radio he "definitely expects" to be back with the Ravens. Boldin has a $7.531 million salary-cap figure and a $6 million base salary in the final year of his contract for 2013. “For me that’s not something that I worry about,” Boldin said Friday. “I think you go out and let your play speak for itself. ... Baltimore is the only place I want to play. It’s the last place that I will play. For me, I’ll retire a Raven, I’m not putting on any other uniform.” After catching 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season, Boldin hauled in 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs, as he averaged 17.3 yards per reception.
Analysis: We'd be surprised if Boldin retired, and the Ravens will likely restructure his contract in an effort to keep him in Baltimore. Keep an eye on what develops, but we expect Boldin to play in 2013. He should be considered a low-end No. 3 receiver candidate worth a late-round pick.

Ravens hope to keep Boldin

News: The Baltimore Sun reports that although there has been speculation that receiver Anquan Boldin could be a potential salary-cap casualty since he has a $7.531 million salary-cap figure and a $6 million base salary in the final year of his contract, the reality is the Ravens would like to hold onto him. They haven't reached out yet to Boldin to initiate a potential contract extension, but it's regarded as a strong possibility at this point since none of the younger receivers have emerged as a potential replacement.
Analysis: After catching 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season, Boldin hauled in 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs, as he averaged 17.3 yards per reception. His catches and receiving yards were both Ravens single-season playoff records. The yardage ranks Boldin seventh in NFL playoff history behind Larry Fitzgerald, Hakeem Nicks, Jerry Rice, Steve Smith, Charlie Brown and Anthony Carter. And his catches tied him for sixth in NFL playoff history with Joseph Addai, Tony Nathan and Dan Ross. We'll see what happens with Boldin this offseason, but if he returns to the Ravens he still has potential as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver. He did a great job to close the season once Jim Caldwell took over as offensive coordinator, and we like Boldin with a late-round pick in all leagues.

Boldin comes up big in SB XLVII

News: Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin entered Sunday with just four touchdown grabs in the regular season. He found the end zone for the fourth time this postseason during Super Bowl XLVII against the 49ers. Joe Flacco connected with Boldin for a 13-yard strike for the game's first score in the opening quarter. He was targeted 10 times and finished with six catches for 104 yards and a score in a 34-31 victory.
Analysis: Boldin, who is now a Super Bowl champion, has caught three touchdown passes in his last two games and has averaged 95.0 yards with a total of four touchdowns through four postseason games this year. He caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season. The 32-year-old finished the year playing at a high level and should be viewed as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver at best in 2013 worth a late-round selection.

Boldin hopes to remain productive

News: Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin hopes to stay hot in Super Bowl XLVII against the 49ers in New Orleans on Sunday. Boldin is having an amazing postseason thus far. He has 16 catches for 276 yards and three touchdowns through three games against Indianapolis, Denver and New England. He also has a good matchup in this game since the 49ers have allowed multiple receivers to score double digits in Fantasy points in each playoff game (James Jones and Greg Jennings for the Packers and Julio Jones and Roddy White for the Falcons). Combined in the playoffs, San Francisco has given up 41 catches for 524 yards and four touchdowns to opposing receivers.
Analysis: Boldin remains a solid option in all Fantasy Playoff Challenge leagues. He is playing at a high level and the matchup looks appealing. This also might be his last game for the Ravens since he could be a salary-cap casualty. He is scheduled to make $6 million in 2013, and the Ravens could decide to release him if he doesn't take a pay cut. Either way, Boldin is at best a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in 2013 worth a late-round pick.

Boldin punches Super Bowl ticket

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin turned in another impressive performance as he posted his second multi-touchdown game of the year during Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Ravens. Boldin came up big in the fourth quarter as he scored on a 3-yard pass from Joe Flacco and then an 11-yard strike to put the game away. He was targeted eight times and finished with five grabs for 60 yards in a 28-13 victory.
Analysis: Boldin continues to make important grabs in the postseason and has been a critical part of Flacco's recent success. He has racked up 276 yards with three touchdowns through his three postseason games thus far. Boldin will now face a stingy San Francisco defense that has allowed seven touchdowns to wide receivers in the last four games, including the postseason. Opposing wide receivers have scored 17.7 Fantasy points per game this season against the Niners. Consider him a viable starting option in all Playoff Challenge formats.

Boldin ready for AFC Championship

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin was listed as active for Sunday's AFC Championship game against New England despite dealing with a shoulder injury. The last time Boldin faced the Patriots in Week 3 he had four catches for 48 yards on seven targets. But in the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots last year he had six catches for 101 yards.
Analysis: Boldin has at least seven Fantasy points in five of his past six games, and he has 18 targets through two playoff games. The last time Boldin faced the Patriots in Week 3 he had four catches for 48 yards on seven targets. We like Boldin to remain hot against the Patriots, especially if the Ravens are chasing points. He should be considered a solid option in all Playoff Challenge formats. It's clear Joe Flacco is relying on him with all the targets he's received through two games in the playoffs.

Boldin nets 71 yards in playoff game

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin turned in another productive performance but was held out of the end zone during Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Broncos. Boldin was targeted 11 times and finished with a team-high six catches for 71 yards in a 38-35 double overtime victory. He was the third-leading receiver on the team, behind Jacoby Jones (77 yards) and Torrey Smith (98 yards).
Analysis: Boldin continues to play through a shoulder injury and has shown that he can still contribute at a solid level. He has caught 11 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown through his first two postseason games thus far. He'll play the winner of Sunday's Houston-New England game next week in the AFC Championship game. Boldin caught four passes for 48 yards against New England in Week 3 and was held to just three catches for 24 yards against Houston in Week 7. He should be viewed as a viable play in all Playoff Challenge formats heading into the AFC Championship game.

Boldin active for Ravens

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin is active and starting in the AFC Divisional Playoff game at Denver Saturday. Boldin was considered probable to play on the injury report with a nagging shoulder injury. He was able to practice without much limitation during the week and is fine to face the Broncos. Boldin has at least nine Fantasy points in four of his past five games, including the Wild Card win against the Colts when he had five catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: This shoulder injury has been an issue for Boldin since Week 16 and he even missed the last game of the regular season. That said, he put together a monster performance in the Wild Card win against the Colts last week. The shoulder is fine and Boldin remains a solid play in Fantasy Playoff Challenge leagues.

Boldin on track to play Saturday

News: Baltimore wide receiver Anquan Boldin practiced without limitation throughout the week despite dealing with a nagging shoulder injury. He is listed as probable for Saturday's Divisional Playoff game at Denver. Boldin has at least nine Fantasy points in four of his past five games, including the Wild Card win against the Colts when he had five catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Boldin has been bothered by this shoulder injury since Week 16 and had to sit out the final week of the season before turning in a monster performance against the Colts last week in the playoffs. He is in for a tough matchup, however, since he faced the Broncos in Week 15 and was held to no catches on six targets. Still, the No. 2 receiver for each team has had some success against Denver this year with six reaching double digits in Fantasy points this season. We like Boldin as a low-end option in Playoff Challenge leagues. He is playing well of late, and that could continue against the Broncos. If you need a Fantasy receiver for this round then give Boldin a look.

Boldin takes flight after halftime

News: Veteran receiver Anquan Boldin was the offensive star of the game for Baltimore during its 24-9 Wild Card win against the Colts. Boldin had a very quiet first half Sunday, failing to record a catch on two targets, but he came to life after halftime. Boldin finished with a game-high 145 receiving yards and one touchdown on five catches. His first and longest reception of the afternoon was a 50-yard catch in the third quarter. His 18-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter capped the scoring for Baltimore. Boldin was targeted seven times.
Analysis: Boldin has had a knack for scoring touchdowns in playoff openers. This season marked the fourth time in Boldin's career he went to the playoffs, and it was the fourth time in his career he recorded a touchdown in his playoff opener. Unfortunately, Boldin has never recorded a touchdown in a playoff game after the opener, so history isn't on his side heading into next week's divisional playoff game at Denver. The Broncos also have a very formidable secondary, so consider Boldin more of a secondary receiver in Fantasy Playoff formats. Heading into 2013, consider Boldin more of a late-round Fantasy pick.

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin dressed out for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Colts after being listed as probable with a shoulder injury. Boldin sat out Week 17 due to the injury.
Analysis: Boldin should be considered a low-end Fantasy option in any Playoff Challenge game, and hopefully he can take advantage of a Colts defense that has allowed 16 touchdowns to opposing receivers this season. Heading into 2013, consider Boldin a reserve Fantasy option at best, and he should only be drafted with a late-round pick.

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Bolding was not in uniform and will not play in Week 17 against the Bengals, as he was kept inactive with a shoulder injury. Jacoby Jones will likely take his spot in the starting lineup.
Analysis: Boldin was forced to leave the team’s previous game, and was limited in practice all week, so this does not come as a big surprise. The Ravens have already clinched their playoff spot, and are expected to limit the rest of their starts Sunday anyways, so Boldin’s deactivation does not really change things much for him. Heading into the playoffs, Boldin can be considered a low-end starting in postseason challenge Fantasy formats.

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin was limited in practice for the third straight day on Friday due to a shoulder injury. He is being considered as questionable for Week 17 against the Bengals. Boldin caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown when the division foes met earlier in the year.
Analysis: Boldin was forced out of the Ravens' previous game due to the injury and could end up sitting out Sunday. Baltimore has already clinched the division so there is not much need to push their starters, especially ones with injuries. Owners should keep an eye out for the inactives before the contest before getting him active. Even if Boldin ends up playing against the Bengals and their 10th-ranked pass defense, consider him as more of a low-end Fantasy option in most formats.

Boldin dealing with shoulder woes

News: Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin was limited in practice for the second day in a row Thursday, as he continues to deal with a bruised shoulder leading up to Week 17 against the Bengals. Boldin left the team’s previous two games, and has still not been cleared to participate in practice fully. Despite that, the injury is not currently considered especially serious.
Analysis: Bolding had four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in a game against the Bengals earlier in the season, so he would probably like to be able to finish the season with another strong performance. The Bengals have been one of the best teams in the league at limiting the impact of wide receivers this season, allowing just 16.9 Fantasy points per game. Given his injury and the matchup, Boldin should be considered just low-end Fantasy option, If he plays.

News: Baltimore wide receiver Anquan Boldin practiced Wednesday and appears to be fine for the Week 17 finale at Cincinnati. Boldin left Sunday's game with a minor shoulder injury and should be fine going forward heading into the final game of the regular season. Boldin faced the Bengals back in Week 1 and went for four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in that game.
Analysis: Boldin had a touchdown Week 1 against the Bengals and has scored just three more times all year, with all three scores coming in Weeks 13 and 14. He's facing a solid secondary Week 17 against Cincinnati but can still be considered a decent Fantasy start at the flex position.
