Dickerson happy for Peterson

News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, NFL Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson said he "watched a little bit" last season as Vikings running back Adrian Peterson came within 9 yards of his single-season rushing record set in 1984. "When he got so close, I had to watch some of it," Dickerson said. "But it was good. It’s always good when somebody gets close but not break. Close but not break. ... I asked him, you want that record don’t you? He said yeah, you know I want it. But it was good for the league, it was good for me, it was good for him. He’s a great player, a great guy and I hope he gets close again -- without breaking it." Dickerson said Peterson could again challenge for the record this season, but it will be tough. "Now that he got so close, the defense is going to really be after him," Dickerson said. "They’re going to really scheme for him."
Analysis: Peterson was amazing in 2012. He racked up 2,097 rushing yards this season and rushed for 12 touchdowns while hauling in another through the air. He will enter this year as the No. 1 Fantasy running back and likely No. 1 overall pick in all leagues. But he could have some struggles since every running back who rushed for 2,000 yards in NFL history -- there are five others besides Dickerson and Peterson (Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, Chris Johnson and O.J. Simpson) -- has seen a decline in production the following year. Still, Peterson has proved everyone wrong before, and he should still produce at a high level. Draft him with confidence this summer.

Frazier: AP not quite 100 percent

News: ESPN reports Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said running back Adrian Peterson is "not quite" back to running full speed and cutting after having sports hernia surgery in February. But the belief is that he'll still be ready for training camp, if not the offseason workouts in April.
Analysis: No one should be seriously concerned about Peterson struggling because of this surgery, especially after his recovery from a torn-up knee in 2012. Peterson has returned to elite status and is worth consideration with the top overall pick in all 2013 Fantasy drafts. He certainly shouldn't fall lower than second overall.

AP should be ready for minicamp

News: Vikings general manager Rick Spielman believes running back Adrian Peterson will be ready for the start of offseason minicamps following surgery for a hernia in early February. "He'll be ready," Spielman said per 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis. "He's pretty good right now. You think Adrian wouldn't be good yet?"
Analysis: Remember what happened the last time Peterson came back from surgery? He won the league MVP award, that's what. Peterson has returned to elite status and is worth consideration with the top overall pick in all 2013 Fantasy drafts. He certainly shouldn't fall lower than second overall.

News: The Vikings announced running back Adrian Peterson underwent sports hernia surgery on Thursday. The surgery to repair an abdominal core muscle was done in Philadelphia, Pa. "We expect a speedy recovery with no long-term concerns," the team said in a statement.
Analysis: No one should be concerned about this issue for now -- remember what happened the last time Peterson came back from surgery? Peterson runs away with awards

News: It was less than 14 months ago that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was battered, sidelined with a torn ACL in his left knee he suffered during the second-to-last game of the 2011 regular season. But he never grew defeated and completed a grueling rehab during the offseason in order to be ready for Week 1. His extensive recovery culminated Saturday with the league's MVP award and the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year honor. Peterson rushed for 2,109 yards this season, just 9 yards short of Eric Dickerson's all-time record, and had 13 total touchdowns. He received 36 votes for the MVP honor, dominating runner-up Peyton Manning of Denver (eight).
Analysis: Despite having surgery Dec. 30, 2011, Peterson was still able to fuel the Vikings' turnaround from a 3-13 record to 10-6 and a playoff berth this past season. He posted 12 rushing touchdowns for the fourth consecutive season and averaged a sterling 6.0 yards per carry. Minnesota clearly ran its offense through Peterson as posted eight straight games with at least 100 rushing yards. The bruising 27-year-old also finished with more rushing yards in a game than Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder had passing yards on five occasions. Peterson has returned to elite status and is worth consideration with the top overall pick in all 2013 Fantasy drafts. He certainly shouldn't fall lower than third.

Peterson not surprised by recovery

News: NFL.com reports that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wasn't surprised he healed so quickly from the torn ACL he suffered toward the end of the 2011 season. Peterson was ready for Week 1 in 2012 and had a historic season, falling 9 yards shy of Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season rushing record. "This is also a matter of genetics," Peterson said. "Look at my dad. And my mom's side, my aunts and uncles, they're all ripped. At 50 years old, they've got six packs and eight packs. My body just heals differently. I know it has a lot to do with rehabilitation and work ethic -- but I really credit my genetics for my recovery as much as anything else."
Analysis: Peterson was amazing in 2012. He racked up 2,097 rushing yards this season and rushed for 12 touchdowns while hauling in another through the air. Heading into 2013, Peterson is considered the No. 1 overall pick, and should be drafted no later than No. 3 overall in all formats.

Packers end AP's historic season

News: After tearing the Packers apart for 199 yards and a touchdown in Week 17, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was unable to hit the century mark and was kept out of the end zone during Saturday's NFC Wild Card game at Green Bay. With Christian Ponder sidelined, Peterson took the workload and rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries in the first half. He finished with 22 carries for 99 yards in a 24-10 defeat. He also caught one pass for an 8-yard gain in the loss.
Analysis: In his first season back from major-knee surgery, Peterson became the seventh player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 yards rushing. Peterson racked up 2,097 rushing yards this season and rushed for 12 touchdowns while hauling in another through the air. While he fell only 8 yards shy of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105, the 27-year-old re-established himself as the best running back in the NFL with his campaign. Heading into 2013, Peterson is considered the No. 1 overall pick, and should be drafted no later than No. 3 overall in all formats.

Peterson ready to go

News: As expected, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was able to play through a lingering abdomen injury Saturday against the Packers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. He has been dealing with this injury for the last few weeks, but has yet to be limited.
Analysis: Peterson was dealing with this injury last week, when he rumbled for 199 yards on 34 carries against this same Packers’ defense, so there is little reason o think he will struggle. Peterson is worth starting in all Playoff Challenge leagues, and should be one of the first running backs taken on Draft Day in 2013.

No sweat: AP probable for Saturday

News: Vikings defender-crushing running back Adrian Peterson is officially listed as probable for the team's postseason game at Green Bay on Saturday after practicing in full on Friday. Peterson sat out practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday, but there was no doubt he would play at Lambeau this weekend.
Analysis: Peterson, who rushed for 199 yards on a career-high 34 carries Week 17 vs. the Packers, has been on the team's injury report all year as the team continues to limit his practice workload. He should be considered a solid option in all Playoff Challenge leagues. At this point, he is considered as the No. 1 overall pick, and should be drafted no later than No. 3 overall on Draft Day in 2013.

Peterson back at practice

News: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who missed practice Wednesday with lingering abdomen and groin issues, returned to practice Thursday in a limited fashion. Peterson, who rushed for 199 yards on a career-high 34 carries Week 17 vs. the Packers, has been on the team's injury report all year as the team continues to limit his practice workload. He is expected to play in the Wild Card round at Green Bay Saturday night.
Analysis: Peterson racked up 2,097 rushing yards this season and rushed for 12 touchdowns while hauling in another through the air. While he was unable to surpass Dickerson's mark, the 27-year-old re-established himself as the best running back in the NFL with his campaign, which was impressive considering the devastating knee injury he suffered a year ago. He is expected to play in the Wild Card game against the Packers, and he should be considered a solid option in all Playoff Challenge leagues. At this point, he is considered as the No. 1 overall pick, and should be drafted no later than No. 3 overall on Draft Day in 2013.

AP just misses Dickerson's mark

News: On the one-year anniversary of his major knee surgery, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson became the seventh player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 yards rushing in Week 17 against the Packers. He rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown in the first half and surpassed the 2,000-yard mark with a 20-yard run in the third quarter. With 2,000 yards out of the way, Peterson next set his sights on Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105. He came within 8 yards of matching that mark following his 26-yard run in the fourth quarter, which set up Blair Walsh's game-winning field goal. Peterson carried the ball a career-high 34 times for 199 yards in the 37-34 win. He also caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christian Ponder. "It wasn't meant to happen, or it would've happened. Not to say it doesn't hurt, because it does," Peterson said of Dickerson's 28-year-old record. "But we came in here tonight and accomplished the ultimate goal, and that was getting a win and punching our ticket to the playoffs."
Analysis: Peterson finished with 2,097 rushing yards this season and rushed for 12 touchdowns while hauling in another through the air. While he was unable to surpass Dickerson's mark, the 27-year-old re-established himself as the best running back in the NFL with his campaign, which was impressive considering the devastating injury he suffered a year ago. With the win on Sunday, the Vikings made the playoffs so Peterson will try and rack up some more yards in the first round next week. Peterson remains a must-start option in all playoff Fantasy formats and should be one of the first few players off the board on Draft Day in 2013.

Peterson ready to chase history

News: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been ruled active for Week 17 against the Packers after sitting out practice twice due to an abdomen injury. Peterson enters Sunday needing 102 yards rushing to reach 2,000 for the first time in his career. He is also 208 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105. Green Bay ranks 14th in the league in run defense, giving up under 112 yards per game, and has allowed an average of 16 Fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Analysis: Peterson ran for 210 yards on 21 carries against the Packers earlier in the year, which included an 82-yard touchdown run. While surpassing Dickerson's record could be a stretch at this point, he should be able to hit the 2,000-yard mark. The 27-year-old has averaged 113 yards rushing in 11 career games against the Packers with eight total touchdowns. The Vikings need to win on Sunday to clinch a playoff spot so Peterson should be in top form. Keep him active in all Fantasy formats for Week 17.

Peterson close to 2,000 yards

News: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was limited in practice on Friday after sitting out the previous two days due to an abdomen injury. He is being considered a probable for Week 17 against the Packers. Peterson enters Sunday needing 102 yards rushing to reach 2,000 for the first time in his career. He is also 208 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105. Analysis: Peterson has had an unprecedented campaign coming off major knee surgery and while surpassing Dickerson's record could be a stretch at this point, he should be able to hit the 2,000-yard mark. Along with running for 210 yards on 21 carries against the division foe earlier in the year, the 27-year-old has averaged 113 yards rushing in 11 career games against the Packers with eight total touchdowns. Peterson dealing with ab issue

News: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was unable to practice Thursday yet again, as he continues to deal with an abdominal strain leading up to Week 17 against the Packers. Peterson told reporters that he suffered the injury in Week 16, but played through it, finishing with 86 yards on 25 carries, without a touchdown. Peterson is not expected to be limited this Sunday, but the injury is certainly something to keep an eye on heading into the weekend.
Analysis: Peterson has his sights set on Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of 2,105, but he remains 208 yards shy with just one game remaining. If he is going to reach that mark, Green Bay might be the team that gives it up, as he rushed for 210 yards on just 21 carries the last time these teams met up. Peterson has an excellent chance to reach the 2,000-yard mark for the first time, assuming this injury does not prove problematic. The team does not seem to consider it serious, and his absence from practice appears to be a precaution. He remains a must-start Fantasy option in all formats, barring a setback.

Peterson forgets record, thinks playoffs

News: Adrian Peterson had the amount of carries you'd like to see with 25, but he cobbled together just 86 yards with them at the Texans in Week 16. He also caught a 4-yard pass. Peterson led off his game with a 20-yard run and topped it with a 21-yard run later but couldn't rack up any runs longer than those the rest of the game thanks to the Texans stacking the box against him and doing a good job to contain him. With this effort, Peterson has 1,898 yards on the year and would need 208 yards against the Packers in Week 17 to catch Eric Dickerson's single-season record. However, the Vikings are in the playoff hunt, so Peterson can turn his attention to that. His coaches did -- the Vikings leaned on Toby Gerhart late in the game including at the goal line for a short touchdown run to ice the victory.
Analysis: Peterson's Week 16 game won't be remembered for historical purposes but it's clear the Vikings staff didn't care about his record and instead remained focused on making the playoffs. They'll have a chance to clinch a berth when they play vs. the Packers in Week 17, a defense that should struggle to contain Peterson just as they did in Week 13 (21 carries, 210 yards and a touchdown). You'll obviously continue to start him.

Peterson rolling towards 2,000

News: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson needs 188 rushing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season and will get his chance Week 16 at Houston. Peterson is active for the game after being probable on the injury report with abdomen and groin issues. Houston ranks fifth in the league in run defense, giving up under 94 yards per game, and has limited opposing running backs to an average of 10.1 Fantasy points, which is best in the NFL.
Analysis: Peterson has an outside chance at breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 if he has a solid game Sunday and in Week 17. Not bad for a guy who tore his ACL one year ago come this Monday. He'll attempt to inch closer to that mark Sunday against a Houston team that allowed a 100-yard rusher in Vick Ballard last week and three rushing scores in its last four. Peterson has been an absolute machine in Fantasy this season so keep him active in all formats for Week 16.

Texans up next for AP

News: What once looked like a challenging matchup for Adrian Peterson has become a fairly easy one. This week he'll play at Houston, a team that allowed a 100-yard rusher in Vick Ballard last week and three rushing scores in its last four. As you may or may not know, Peterson currently leads the NFL in rushing with 1,812 yards on the season and is attempting to break Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards while the Vikings battle for a playoff spot.
Analysis: Not bad for a guy who tore his ACL one year ago come this Monday. Unless the Texans are allowed to play with 13 defenders, Peterson is expected to continue his romp through the NFL en route to a 2,000-yard season. No one should bench him headed into Week 16.

Peterson rushes for season high

News: After one quarter of play Week 15 at St. Louis, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson didn't look like he was on the verge of his second 200-yard game this season. In fact, his streak of seven straight games with at least 100 yards appeared to be in jeopardy. He had gained only 8 yards on his first eight carries, actually losing yardage on five of them. But then came his ninth carry at the start of the second quarter, when he broke free for an 82-yard touchdown run, equaling his season long from two weeks ago. From that point forward, he was as good as ever, picking up 122 yards on his next 15 carries for a season-high 212 yards on 24 carries. "He continues to amaze you with some of his runs," coach Leslie Frazier said. "It looks like there was nothing there and the next thing you know he's out the door."
Analysis: With an average of 164.1 rushing yards over his last eight games, Peterson has a chance of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105, which was set in 1984. His Week 15 performance puts him only 293 yards away. Though this matchup against St. Louis wasn't a particularly difficult one, Peterson has chewed up some of the league's better run defenses during this eight-game run, including Tampa Bay in Week 8, Seattle in Week 9 and Chicago in Weeks 12 and 14. You shouldn't have any reservations about starting him Week 16 at Houston.

Analysis: Peterson has yet to miss a game this season and has been on fire over his last seven, averaging 157.3 rushing yards with nine rushing touchdowns. Abdomen no problem for AP

News: Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson returned to practice Thursday and was listed as probable on the team's injury report for Week 15 at St. Louis with a minor abdomen issue. As expected, Peterson practiced on a limited basis Friday after missing Thursday's session in order to rest his injury. It's the latest issue to affect Peterson this season, but he has not missed any playing time and he attempts to continue his solid run Sunday. He has averaged 157.3 rushing yards over his past seven games as the opponent hasn't seemed to matter. He had 123 yards against the Buccaneers' top-ranked run defense in Week 8, 182 yards against the Seahawks' 10th-ranked run defense in Week 9, 108 yards against the Bears' 12th-ranked run defense in Week 12 and 154 yards against those same Bears last week.
Analysis: Based on his recent success, Peterson shouldn't have much trouble solving the visiting Rams' run defense in Week 15. St. Louis ranks 13th against the run, allowing 110.3 yards per game, and has given up the 10th-most Fantasy points to running backs this season. Plus, the Rams have surrendered 15 rushing touchdowns this season, fourth-most in the league. The Vikings offense is so heavily skewed toward the running game now that Peterson should be able to take advantage. Fantasy owners shouldn't worry about the slight injury concern as Peterson is as much of an automatic start as you'll find.

AP expected to practice Friday

News: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said running back Adrian Peterson was held out of practice Thursday to rest an abdomen injury, but he is expected to return to practice Friday. Though the Vikings haven't been able to move the ball through the air in recent weeks, averaging 123.3 passing yards in their last seven games, Peterson has done his best to make up for it, averaging 157.3 rushing yards during that same period. The opponent hasn't seemed to matter. He had 123 yards against the Buccaneers' first-ranked run defense in Week 8, 182 yards against the Seahawks' 10th-ranked run defense in Week 9, 108 yards against the Bears' 12th-ranked run defense in Week 12 and 154 yards against those same Bears last week. So then, he shouldn't have much trouble solving the visiting Rams' run defense in Week 15. St. Louis ranks 13th against the run, allowing 110.3 yards per game, and has given up the 10th-most Fantasy points to running backs this season.
Analysis: AP has been on the injury report several weeks with an ankle injury, so this abdomen injury is something new. However, AP hasn't missed a game and it doesn't appear he will sit out Sunday. The Vikings have given AP plenty of rest time during the practice week this year and it seems to have paid off. The Rams have surrendered 15 rushing touchdowns this season, fourth-most in the league. The Vikings offense is so heavily skewed toward the running game now that Peterson should be able to take advantage. If the Buccaneers, Bears and Seahawks weren't able to slow him down, this Rams defense is nothing to worry about, even if it has played better in recent weeks. Peterson is as much of an automatic start as you'll find in Fantasy.
