Report: Giants, Jacobs could reunite

News: The New York Post writes the Giants haven't ruled out bringing back Brandon Jacobs. Recently Jacobs posted on Instagram a picture of himself from his days playing with the Giants with the message "Trying to get back in this uniform."
Analysis: Jacobs barely played last season after hurting his knee in the preseason, so there are probably a lot of questions about what he can do to help the Giants. With David Wilson and Andre Brown on the roster already, Jacobs would be a third wheel who probably wouldn't help much on special teams. He's not worth checking out in Fantasy.

Jacobs hints at Giants reunion

News: Free agent running back Brandon Jacobs posted a picture of himself in a Giants jersey on Instagram with the caption "Trying to get back in this uniform." The New York Post believes Jacobs did this to try and get back together with the Giants after burning his bridges with the 49ers last season.

49ers part ways with Jacobs

News: After appearing in just two games with the team this season, running back Brandon Jacobs was released by the 49ers on Monday. Jacobs, who signed a one-year deal with San Francisco in the offseason after seven years with the Giants, is not eligible to join another team for the playoffs. He was suspended by the 49ers for the final three games of the regular season after criticizing the team on a social media site.
Analysis: Jacobs suffered a serious knee injury during the second game of the preseason and endured an arduous return back to the lineup. He finally made his season debut in Week 12 against New Orleans, but recorded only one carry -- on of just five total rushing attempts he collected on the season. Jacobs could find a complementary role with another team next year, but holds marginal Fantasy value heading into 2013.

Jacobs suspended three games

News: The 49ers announced Monday running back Brandon Jacobs has been suspended the final three games of the regular season after controversial comments he posted via social media last week. "I am on this team rotting away so why would I wanna put any pics up of anything that say niners," Jacobs wrote on Instagram in response to fans' complaints that he posted only photos of himself while with the New York Giants, per CSN Bay Area. "This is by far the worst year I ever had, I'll tell you like I told plenty others."
Analysis: The 49ers signed Jacobs to a one-year deal in the offseason after he was released by the Giants. Jacobs sustained a knee injury in the team's second preseason game and has been declared healthy since Week 4. However, he has played in just two games this season and has managed five carries. By suspending Jacobs that will prevent the veteran running back from joining another team down the stretch. Jacobs had no Fantasy appeal prior to this news, so continue to leave him off rosters.

Jacobs actually runs with the ball

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs backed up starter Frank Gore on Sunday of Week 13 in St. Louis. Jacobs was limited to four carries for 6 yards in the overtime loss.
Analysis: The Niners made LaMichael James a healthy scratch on Sunday against the Rams and went with Jacobs as the backup to Gore. Jacobs didn't do much, but at least he saw his first game this season with more than one carry. Jacobs isn't going to be gaining much Fantasy value going forward. He is not a recommended option for Week 14 against Miami.

Jacobs dresses, disappears

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was in uniform for the first time Thursday against the Seahawks. His production was unchanged from his inactive days, as he went unused in the running game. Jacobs did not touch the ball once in a 13-6 win.
Analysis: It looks Jacobs is destined to be an afterthought this season, barring some sort of injury further up the depth chart. He might have some value as a goal-line back at some point this season, but the fact that he was in uniform and still did not factor in the gameplan says a lot about his role on the team. He is not worth relying on in any Fantasy formats moving forward.

Jacobs finally suits up

News: After missing the first six games of the season with a knee injury, the 49ers activated running back Brandon Jacobs for Thursday’s game against the Seahawks in Week 7.
Analysis: Jacobs is likely to serve as a backup running back, with some opportunities possibly presenting themselves at the goal line. Still, he needs to prove he has a role in the offense and some life left in his 30-year-old legs, so don’t plan on using him in most Fantasy formats for Week 7.

Jacobs questionable vs. Seahawks

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was listed as questionable on Wednesday's injury report for Week 7 against the Seahawks. He has yet to play this season due to a knee injury.
Analysis: Jacobs is still waiting to make his season debut so continue to monitor his status going forward. The 30-year-old averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 14 games last season and should be viewed as a low-end option in deeper Fantasy formats when he's finally active.

Jacobs sits against former team

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs was inactive again for Week 6 against the Giants because of a lingering knee injury. Jacobs was considered questionable for the matchup with his former team, but instead will wait at least another week before making his season debut.
Analysis: Jacobs continues to make strides during practice, but apparently is still not ready for game action. The 30-year-old averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 14 games last season and should be viewed as a low-end option in deeper Fantasy formats when he's finally active.

Jacobs may need more time

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs was listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Week 6 against the Giants because of a burdensome knee injury. Jacobs was a full participant in practice throughout the week as he hopes to finally make his regular-season debut. He has been considered questionable the past two weeks, but has stayed inactive. New York is giving up 111.4 rushing yards per game this year.
Analysis: Jacobs continues to make strides during practice, but apparently is still not ready for game action. The 30-year-old is hoping to change that trend during Sunday's contest against his former team and provide a boost to the 49ers' running game around the goal line. Jacobs averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 14 games last season and should be viewed as a low-end option in deeper Fantasy formats if he's active. The Giants are surrendering an average of 15.4 Fantasy points per game to opposing running backs this season.

Jacobs inactive again

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs was officially listed as inactive heading into Sunday's Week 5 matchup at home against the Bills as he continues to deal with a lingering knee injury. Jacobs practice in full all week leading up to Sunday, but has been inactive all season since suffering the injury in preseason.
Analysis: Jacobs was downgraded to questionable despite practicing in full on Friday so this is no surprise for Fantasy owners who were expecting him to return this week. The 49ers are willing to work him back in slowly, especially since Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter have both been running the ball well lately. Jacobs could be a decent addition to the offense, especially in goal-line or short-yardage situations once he is back in the lineup. Fantasy owners should keep him on the bench heading into Week 5.

Jacobs downgraded to questionable

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs practiced in full for the third consecutive day on Friday but his status was downgraded from probable to questionable heading into Sunday's matchup at home against the Bills. Jacobs has yet to play this season as a result of a knee injury suffered during the preseason.
Analysis: The Niners are keeping some suspense as it seems like Jacobs will be a game-time decision heading into Sunday. Jacobs is a former Fantasy start, so there has been a good amount of interest in his progress this season. That may be misplaced, as the 49ers already have a clear hierarchy in the backfield, with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter entrenched. Jacobs could be a decent addition to the offense, especially in goal-line or short-yardage situations. If he does play, he'll face a Buffalo defense that permitted a pair of 100-yard rushers last week against the Patriots. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach to putting him to use, so don't plan on activating him for Week 5.

Jacobs still practicing

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was able to practice in full for the second day in a row Thursday, further increasing the likelihood that he will make his season debut in Week 5 against the Bills. Jacobs has yet to play this season as a result of a knee injury suffered during the preseason.
Analysis: Jacobs is a former Fantasy start, so there has been a good amount of interest in his progress this season. That may be misplaced, as the 49ers already have a clear hierarchy in the backfield, with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter entrenched. The best-case scenario for Jacobs might be a short-yardage back who vultures touchdowns. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach to putting him to use, so don’t plan on activating him for Week 5.

Jacobs practices again

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was able to practice in full Wednesday, a day after telling NFL.com that he hopes to make his season debut in Week 5 against Buffalo. Jacobs, who has yet to play this season as a result of a knee injury, should be able to get active for the game, as long as he is able to make it through the week without any injury issue.
Analysis: We have no idea how Jacobs will be used in the team’s offense, however it seems likely that he will be used as a short-yardage back at first. Jacobs is third on the depth chart in the backfield, though, and there may not be many carries available for him. Jacobs is worth keeping an eye on in most Fantasy formats, however owners will want to take a wait-and-see approach to putting him to use. Don't plan on activating him for Week 5.

Jacobs ready to contribute

News: The 49ers' official website reports running back Brandon Jacobs, who has been inactive all season with a knee injury, is hoping to make his debut Week 5 vs. Buffalo. “I’m ready to play,” Jacobs said. “It’s nothing now, it’s all gone now. There’s a little kinks I’ve got to run out but I feel good. I feel good about my explosiveness, I’ve got fresh legs.”
Analysis: It's going to be interesting to see how the 49ers work Jacobs into the mix. We envision he will be used as a short-yardage back and might vulture some touchdowns like he did with the Giants. However, Frank Gore will still do most of the work out of the backfield for San Francisco and Kendall Hunter will likely remain in the mix. Even if Jacobs is back Week 5, it's not the time to activate him in Fantasy. Let's wait to see how he is used in San Francisco.

Jacobs remains among inactives

News: Despite the possibility that he could make his season debut, San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs was ruled out for Week 4 at the Jets because of a lingering knee injury. Jacobs has not played in a regular-season game this year, but was able to practice last week with his teammates for the first time since suffering the injury in the preseason. Fellow running back LaMichael James was also ruled inactive.
Analysis: Jacobs was a limited participant in practice throughout the past week, a steady improvement since not being involved in the workouts through the first three weeks of the season. But he is still apparently not ready for game action as the 49ers are comfortable with a rotation of Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter. Jacobs' uncertain status keeps him an option to keep reserved only in deeper Fantasy formats at this point.

Jacobs finally nearing return

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) was listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Week 4 at the Jets after practicing with his teammates for the first time this season. Jacobs was a limited participant in practice throughout the past week, a steady improvement since not being involved in the workouts since suffering a serious knee injury during the postseason. He posted 152 carries for 571 yards and seven touchdowns with the Giants last year before joining the 49ers during the offseason.
Analysis: It's still unclear if Jacobs will return to the lineup as San Francisco possesses quality depth at the running back position and the Jets matchup doesn't appear to be a challenge task. New York has allowed 148.7 yards per game on the ground this season and was tagged for two touchdowns to two different running back in last week's win over Miami. But Jacobs is only expected to receive carries around the goal line as Frank Gore remains the workhorse for the 49ers. Fantasy owners should consider Jacobs a low-end flex option in deeper formats for Week 4 if he's active.

No change for Jacobs

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was limited in practice for the second day in a row Thursday, as he continues to recover from a knee injury suffered during the preseason. Jacobs has yet to play this season, and Wednesday was the first time he has been able to practice since the injury, so his status is still very much in the air for Week 4 against the Jets.
Analysis: Jacobs will probably serve as a backup to Frank Gore once he returns, but unless there are some injuries ahead of him or he earns the majority of the goal-line carries, he is not worth relying on in any Fantasy formats for Week 4, even if he plays.

Jacobs finally practices

News: For the first time since suffering a knee injury during the preseason, 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was able to participate with his teammates in practice Wednesday, albeit on a limited basis. He remains questionable for Week 4 at New York.
Analysis: Jacobs is expected to help share the load behind Frank Gore, and he seems like an obvious candidate for goal-line carries, if he can ever get on the field. For now, Fantasy owners should keep an eye on Jacobs’ status, but don’t plan on relying on him for the upcoming matchup.

Brandon Jacobs

Jacobs officially ruled out again

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) was ruled inactive for the Week 3 game at Minnesota. Jacobs was listed as questionable entering Sunday, but was expected to sit out the game after not practicing on Friday due to his lingering knee injury. Jacobs has yet to suit up this season.
Analysis: Jacobs would be a nice backup to Frank Gore if he could get himself healthy. That said, that won't happen until at least Week 4 now as Jacobs was once again ruled inactive for the game. Jacobs is losing playing time to Kendall Hunter the longer it takes him to return. Keep him benched or on waivers in all formats for Week 3.

Jacobs still not practicing

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs is listed as questionable for Week 3 at Minnesota because of a lingering knee injury. Jacobs did not participate in practice throughout the past week and has yet to play in a game during the regular season after suffering the injury in the preseason.
Analysis: The 49ers would like to move Jacobs into game action to help in the backfield behind Frank Gore as the Vikings pose a decent option having permitted 98.5 rushing yards per game this season. Instead, Jacobs will continue to lose playing time to Kendall Hunter while he continues to nurse the knee injury. Fantasy owners should not rely on Jacobs for Week 3 and continue to seek healthier alternatives.

Jacobs out yet again

News: As expected, 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was once again inactive for Week 2 against the Lions, as he continues to deal with a knee injury. He has yet to practice since suffering the injury in the preseason.
Analysis: Jacobs has to get on the practice field before we start worrying about him making an impact on game day. The 49ers are deep at running back, so Jacobs will have to be 100 percent before they take a chance on him. He should just be stashed in deeper Fantasy formats.

Jacobs might not be ready

News: San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs is labeled as questionable for Week 2 against Detroit because of a lingering knee injury. Jacobs did not participate in the 49ers' practices throughout the past week after not playing in the season opener against Green Bay last Sunday.
Analysis: Jacobs was also deemed questioned last week and was ultimately inactive as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury he suffered during the preseason. The 49ers would like to move him into game action to help in the backfield behind Frank Gore as the Lions boast a formidable defensive line. Instead, Jacobs will likely cede playing time to Kendall Hunter while he continues to nurse the knee injury. Fantasy owners should not rely on Jacobs for Week 2 and continue to seek healthier alternatives.

Brandon Jacobs

Jacobs remains out of practice

News: 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs was unable to return to practice Thursday, as he continues to deal with a lingering knee injury. He has yet to practice this season, after suffering the injury in the preseason.
Analysis: The Niners added Jacobs to the backfield in the offseason, in the hopes that the big bruiser would add an additional dimension to the offense. He would likely serve as the goal-line back once activated, but he needs to get healthy first. For now, he is considered questionable for Week 2 against the Lions, but he is not worthy of starting even if healthy, given the 49ers existing running back depth.
