Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Makes 37 saves in Friday's shootout win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/25/17) Halak allowed three goals on 40 shots in Friday's 4-3 win against the Penguins.

Halak had a successful return in his first game back from exile with AHL Bridgeport. It's an especially strong showing being able to hang on for a road win against a high-octane offense like the Penguins. The former All-Star might see plenty of starts down the stretch as the team sees if he can give them a spark in their fight for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: In goal Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/24/17) Halak will get the starting nod against the Penguins on Friday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

It will be quite the welcome back party for Halak, who will face off against the league's most potent offense -- 3.42 goals per game -- after having not suited up in an NHL contest since Dec. 29. The netminder performed well in the minors as he posted a 17-7-3 record with a .925 save percentage. The Isles remain two points behind the Bruins for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. It makes sense that New York decided to bring back the 31-year-old to see if he can take the Isles on a run.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Welcomed back to NHL

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/23/17) Halak was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday.

Halak hasn't played in an NHL game since Dec. 29, when he surrendered four goals on 24 shots against the Wild as the last straw before his demotion to the minors. However, the Isles have pulled him back to the parent club with a playoff spot to be had; the veteran tender has, after all, looked impressive with the Sound Tigers -- 17-7-1 with a 2.15 GAA and .925 save percentage. Halak could occasionally spell starter Thomas Greiss down the stretch, though Jean-Francois Berube is also in the mix.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Could be recalled

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/21/17) The Islanders are considering calling up Halak from Bridgeport of the AHL, Steven Marcus of Newsday reports.

In 23 games with Bridgeport Halak has posted a 2.19 goals against average to go along with a .923 save percentage. With the Islanders attempting to secure the last playoff spot in the eastern conference they may look to Halak to provide a spark during the stretch run. Thomas Greiss has performed admirably in net but has a sub .900 save percentage in both February and March. The Islanders next play Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Clears waivers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/31/16) Halak has cleared waivers and been assigned to Bridgeport of the AHL, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Halak was placed on waivers after a poor performance in the Islanders 6-4 loss to Minnesota on Thursday. The Islanders had tried to trade Halak earlier this season but his contract and poor play made that next to impossible. Halak could always be called back up should the need arise but most assume that he has played his last game for the Islanders.
