Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Propels Europe to World Cup Finals

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1:06 am ET) Halak stopped 37 of 39 shots in Sunday's semi-final overtime win over Team Sweden at the World Cup of Hockey.

A marvelous outing for Halak, who shutdown a potent Sweden offensive attack. The Islanders netminder is having a fantastic tournament, posting a 3-1-0 record with a .947 save percentage. The Slovakia native is now 9-0 in his last nine games against Henrik Lundqvist and a big reason why Europe is off to the finals against Canada. Look for the World Cup of Hockey finals matchup to come down to a critical goaltending duel between Halak and former Montreal teammamte Carey Price.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Allows four goals on 46 shots in loss to Canada

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/21/16) Halak allowed four goals on 46 shots in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Canada at the World Cup of Hockey.

Halak wasn't to blame for this loss, as Team Europe was out-shot 46-20. He has had a strong showing at the World Cup thus far, and will get to continue showcasing his skills with Team Europe advancing to the semifinals despite this loss.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Blanks Americans in World Cup opener

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/17/16) Halak stopped all 35 shots he faced in Team Europe's win over Team USA at the World Cup of Hockey on Saturday.

An outstanding performance from the Islanders netminder, who helped his team pull off an upset against a talented American squad. The 31-year-old posted a .919 save percentage in 2015-16 and should enter the upcoming NHL campaign as New York's starting netminder. He has a history of standing tall against opposing powerhouses, so if Halak can build off this fantastic start to the World Cup of Hockey, Team Europe could be very dangerous.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Will start for Team Europe

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/15/16) Halak will start for Team Europe at the World Cup, Brian Erni of SNY.TV. reports.

This is relevant for two reasons. First, it proves that he has completely recovered from groin surgery. Second, he beat out Thomas Greiss. Yes, the same Greiss with whom he will battle for the starting job with in Islanders camp.

Islanders' Jaroslav Halak: Fully recovered

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/2/16) Halak has fully recovered from the groin injury that sidelined him late last season, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Halak is currently playing for Team Europe in the World Cup. He will fight for the starting goaltending job for the Islanders with Thomas Greiss when they report to training camp. Halak is also likely to be bandied about as trade bait during camp and in the early part of the season as the Islanders have three goaltenders (JF Berube) fighting for two spots.
