Wizards' Markieff Morris: Cleared of charges in assault case

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/3/17) Morris (abdomen) has been found not guilty on all counts of felony assault charges, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports.

Morris, as well as brother and Celtics' forward Marcus Morris, have been been found not guilty of a 2015 assault charge, so both players are expected to return to their respective teams and are unlikely to be given a suspension. That being said, after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia back at the end of September, Morris is still slated to be sidelined for another four-to-six weeks while going through the recovery process. That puts a return roughly at the start of November, though additional updates should be provided as he progresses.

Wizards' Markieff Morris: Will miss six-to-eight weeks following surgery

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/22/17) Morris (abdomen) is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks after undergoing successful surgery to repair a sports hernia.

The timeline puts Morris' return sometime around early-to-mid November. That said, he's still standing trial for felony assault charges -- a situation which could end in league discipline if he's found guilty, possibly extending his absence. In any event, the Wizards will have to find a replacement starting power forward, with the most likely suitor being Otto Porter, who could slide one spot up in the lineup. That would create a void at small forward, which Kelly Oubre could fill nicely. The situation certainly puts Morris' fantasy value in flux, though assuming he's found innocent in the trial, he may only end up missing around 10 games.

Wizards' Markieff Morris: Expected to miss camp after sports hernia surgery

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/20/17) Morris will undergo sports hernia surgery Friday and is expected to miss training camp, Candace Buckner of the Washington Post reports.

Morris, who is currently on trial facing felony assault charges, will now add sports hernia surgery on top of his busy offseason. He's dealt with the issue before, undergoing surgery for the same problem back in 2010 as a junior at Kansas. That year, he only missed preseason practices and went on to have the best season of his collegiate career. While that's somewhat promising, Morris is still expected to miss this year's training camp, with a more comprehensive timetable coming after the conclusion of the surgery. Even then, it's no guarantee he'll play if he's healthy, as the outcome of the trial could mean disciplinary action by the league if he's found guilty. If Morris ends up missing a chunk of the regular season, it seems likely the Wizards would slide Otto Porter up to power forward while inserting Kelly Oubre into the starting five at small forward.

Wizards' Markieff Morris: Could miss start of camp

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/19/17) Morris could miss the start of training camp while standing trial in a 2015 assault case, CBS Sports reports.

Both Markieff and his twin brother Marcus were alleged to be involved in an assault that took place in Phoenix back when they were members of the Suns. While the details of the case are being disputed, there's a chance Morris could miss the first few days of training camp, which is set to begin Sept. 26, if the trial drags into the latter days of September. Perhaps more concerning, though, is the possibility that Morris could face legal punishment or discipline from the league if he's ultimately found guilty in the assault.

Wizards' Markieff Morris: Fills up box score in Game 4 win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/7/17) Morris managed 16 points (5-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 35 minutes during Sunday's 121-102 win over the Celtics in Game 4.

Morris finished with playoff career highs in rebounds, assists, and steals while playing 30 minutes or more for the first time this series. Despite seeing just 23.0 minutes per game through Game 4 against the Celtics, Morris is actually sporting better numbers in the second round than he was in the first round, during which he scored in single digits in four of the six contests. Morris has now scored in double figures in three straight games, he has yet to miss a free-throw in the series (12-for-12), and seems likely to surpass 30 minutes once again in Wednesday's crucial Game 5 on the road.
