Pelicans' Tony Allen: Out for Friday's exhibition

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/12/17) Allen is dealing with left ankle soreness and has been ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against the Grizzlies.

Considering it's just being listed as soreness, it doesn't sound like anything overly serious, though the Pelicans will play it safe with the 35-year-old veteran. He'll get the night off Friday, but will then have just under a week to get ready for the regular-season opener against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Allen will likely be the first wing off the bench to start the year, though his role could decline a bit one Rajon Rondo (hernia) returns and Jrue Holiday slides back over to shooting guard.

Pelicans' Tony Allen: Finalizing deal with Pelicans

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/11/17) Allen is finalizing a one-year deal with the Pelicans, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.

Set to turn 36 in January, Allen's best days are in the rear-view, but when healthy he's still one of the NBA's most effective perimeter defenders. In 71 games for Memphis last season, Allen averaged 9.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor. He'll likely take on a reduced role in New Orleans as a defensive specialist, meaning he's unlikely to be much of a fantasy difference-maker.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Will remain out for Game 6

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/27/17) Allen (leg) has been ruled out for Thursday's Game 6 against the Spurs.

Allen remains doubtful for the remainder of the first round, so if the Grizzlies do extend the series to a Game 7, he still likely won't be cleared for a return to the court. James Ennis has started the last two games and has averaged 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist across 31.5 minutes. He remains the favorite to start in Allen's place.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Out for Game 5

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/24/17) Allen (leg) has officially been ruled out for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Spurs.

Allen was recently able to shed his walking boot and also took part in some conditioning on a stationary bike over the weekend, but the Grizzlies still don't expect to have him back at any point during the first round of the playoffs. He's now officially been ruled out for Game 5 on Tuesday and should be considered doubtful for Game 6 as well. James Ennis started the Grizzlies' last contest and logged 32 minutes, so he should be in line for another increase in playing time, while Wayne Selden is also a candidate to see a bigger role.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Remains out Thursday vs. Spurs

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/19/17) Allen (calf) has been ruled out for Thursday's Game 3 against the Spurs.

Allen continues to be evaluated on a game-to-game basis despite being expected to sit out the entirety of the first round of the playoffs. He'll continue to receive treatment over the next few days, with his next shot to see the court for Saturday's Game 4, but if all goes as expected, Allen likely won't be available for that contest either. Wayne Selden has started the last two games in his place, but played just 16 minutes Monday, so guys like Vince Carter and James Ennis appear to be benefiting more in Allen's absence.
